Chapter 6: RUN

Unknown

Perfect. Everything is going as planned. I have the special mask protecting me from the dangers now I just have to get to a good spot for letting it free. Since we're outside it might not influence as much people as it would if we were in a closed space but it should be enough to complete my mission. The cult leader will be very pleased by my work.

Khestri

As I look around the market I notice nothing out of order but I know, I just know that there is something strange going on. The air seems heavier and I can't help but feel like there are eyes on me, observing each of my steps. I can't see them but I know they are there, my instincts are practically screaming 'Danger!' at me and they've never failed me so it's better to be on guard from now on. I don't want to seem paranoid but you never know what could be lurking in the dark, waiting for the right time to strike so better to be safe than sorry, or worse: dead.

Strangely, I seem to be the only person feeling this way. The people around me are celebrating and hustling from market stand to market stand without a care in the world, too distracted by the music and beautiful object all around to suspect anything. Fools. I know that it's the only festival our town has and people want to cherrish it since everybody is too poor to afford the things here if it wasn't a special occasion but that shouldn't be a excuse to get reckless. Not ever, but especially not in these times. And exactly at that moment I decided to start running to get to Jaswyn faster. I'm 100% sure she got this weird feeling too and the smartest thing to do right now is stay together in case anything really does happen.

Exactly as I thought Jaswyn seems to have had a weird gut feeling too because when her food stand is in sight I see her looking around wearily with one of her hands hovering over the hilt of her sword already. The moment she spots me she immediately raises her hand and signals me to come over to her. "Do you feel it too" she asked with a stoic expression. "Yes. I don't know what's going on but I hate it." I turn around to muster the crowd again as Jaswyn huff's out a short laugh. "Same kid, same." "I think we sh-" At that moment my eyes see something: a man with a wolf mask on his face.

At carnival time a man with a mask may seem normal but there is one thing that made me notice him: his eyes, familiar eyes. Blue and purple. Looking at me. A second ago the man was just casually leaning against one of the market stands across the street before he meets my eyes, then he smiles and mouths something: 'Run.'

Right then he pulls out a weird looking, round thing that looks similar to a grenade and throws it on the ground. But instead of exploding the only thing that happens is that some kind of smoke starts to come out of the openings. Suddenly I get pulled back by Jaswyn and she covers both of our mouths and noses with clothes she presses onto them. I look at her confused and waiting for an answer but she isn't even paying me attention, she is just staring at the smoke with a horrified expression. I've never seen Jaswyn flinch, I never even thought it would be possible, she always seems indestructible but right now....she seems to be completely frozen by fear and disbelief. What the hell is going on?
