The morning sun was pale, barely cutting through the veil of mist that hung over the sanctuary as Elara, Kirin, and Jarek prepared to leave for the ruins of Aeloria. The weight of the decision to split their forces still sat heavy in Elara's chest, but there was no other way. If they delayed, the darkness would only grow stronger.

Kirin adjusted his sword belt as he looked over the map one last time. "The fastest route will take us through the Plains of Aranor. We'll make camp there tonight, then push into the ruins by midday tomorrow."

Elara nodded, securing her pack. "The Plains aren't known for being dangerous, but we can't take anything for granted now. We'll move quickly and quietly."

Jarek finished strapping on his armor, his face unreadable. "Let's just hope whatever traps the darkness has laid for us aren't waiting there."
