Chapter 9: Over Her Dead Body – Part 1

It was the night hours in the capital, and Lady Elara Highmore was just finishing the bath she had chosen to take alone despite her personal maid's complaints. The warm water enveloped her body and cooled the fire of anger beneath her skin, if only for a little bit. 

"...And that is all that happened with that son of a bit*h, Gideon," Rosa whispered, ending her statement with a chuckle that quickly died. "...You don't think it's funny, do you?"

Her supposed time of solitude was hardly what it seemed; unknown to anyone in the Count's manor, Heiress Highmore was not alone.

"No, I don't find it funny," Silver replied curtly.

He was never much of a talker, but lately, it felt like she needed a key to unlock his lips every time she asked him something. She could barely hear him over the sound of the water as it is, but in addition to that, her most trusted informant stubbornly stood with his back to her, facing her bedroom instead of the bathroom.
