Chapter 6: 3.1 MAGNETS

"Opposite poles, connect. Same poles, repel," Nick said as he continued playing with his magnets. Though he had known this for so long, he was still amazed at how those objests operate.

Realization suddenly came to his mind as he connected the things in his hand to how his love life had been.

"Opposites attract. Same repels," and he sighed. "How come? Why can't the same connect?"

His love life was like a magnet. Oftentimes he found someone who had the same interests as him but it never stayed longer. His relationships always failed one way or another.

"It's boring..." the women would always complain like he never tried to put any excitement to it. Maybe it's because whatever the girl liked, he followed. He never dared to change it for fear it would not be the same. That they would hate him for it but then at the end, he lost the spark... and the relationship was something to be buried on the ground.

He admitted. It was boring. They did the same, usual thing over and over like an old record player that kept playing the same old song.

So what should he do to make it fun? How could he make it fun?

Nick sat on one of the benches in Central Park in a cool spring morning. He had brought a notebook out and a pen. Today, he would do an investigative research on love by observing couples in the park. Maybe by then he would truly understand what was missing in his relationships.

He thought that love had a science to it. That everything had a formula and yet, whatever he did, he could not find a formula... there was always something amiss in all his experiments. But now, he wanted to find out what should be done. He was going to see if the rules of magnetism really worked in relationships.

The large composition notebook sat on his lap as he took out his pen. It was only ten o' clock on a Saturday morning and lots of people were already lying down on the grass. He had dressed up warmly for this ocassion. Blue jeans and a long sleeved black shirt with a hoodie was his outfit, so different from his usual polo shirt and khaki pants.

He thought maybe if he dressed up differently, he would be noticed by other females there and somehow get curious of him. But, no. Most women would just pass him, not even glancing his way. He tried not be bothered by it and completely ignored it. But then, it still did bother him and made him worry.

Now he wondered what really attracted his exes. Was it really just his intelligence? Was it because he just followed whatever they liked?

He sighed. He needed to observe to understand before conducting an experiment of his own.

"Application was needed to produce good results but first, observe," he reminded. "This is a scientific study of love."

He started jotting down his observations.

He watched as people passed by, and crowd out into the grass area. Several couples had laid down on the grass. Every time he noticed something different from the couples, he jotted them down.

Soon enough, it had been an hour that passed and he decided to leave when someone blocked his view. Two beautiful legs stood before him and he swept his eyes from those legs up to the face of its owner. Nick almost dropped his jaw when he finally recognized the woman before him. It was Susie Yan, the famous singer who happened to be his friend before she even became famous.

"Hello, Nick. How have you been?" she asked. Her voice sounded so cool and alluring that made his insides shiver in delight. His brain could not control the images that came up with it and he tried hard not to let his eyes feasted on her fully rounded bumps.

His tongue caught in his throat as he stared at her. This was someone he knew... not only as a friend, but someone he had his "first time" with. He gulped as he tried not to imagine that moment when they did it.

'God, she's so beautiful!' he thought as he tried to make up some words in his mouth.

Susie smiled, her chinky eyes disappearing as she beamed widely at him. She could tell how he was still affected by her after all these years, and it suited her purpose.

"Did you miss me?" she asked as she sat beside him. Their gazes never left each other.

"Well... I... ummm... shit!" he cursed as he looked away. His whole body quivering in nervousness. He never had anyone like her. No one at least had been compared of how "good" she was.

It was not his intention to remember the moments between them but with the way she dressed, her legs showing, skimpy clothes that accentuated her curves, every bit of him just could not stop it.

His palms began to sweat as he moved away from her. But the more he moved away, the closer she got until his arm felt the black metal arm rest on the bench.

Susie leaned closer, her lips plump with red lipstick on, parted, as her eyes swept over him. She smiled. Her effect on him was still remarkable and it truly amazed her. Though she and Nick had no commonality, they sure had something that compelled them together.

"Opposite poles attract. Same poles repel," and with nowhere to escape, she snaked her hands around his neck as a nervous Nick could not do anything but stare at her lips.

In one split second, their lips met as Nick finally had a realization and was confirmed as she mumbled on his lips when they breathlessly let each other go.

"You're my destiny, Nick," and Nick cupped her face then kissed her endlessly.

Finally, his scientific study had concluded.

Magnetism was the great way to find your true match.
