Chapter 1: The Young Warrior

Arriving at foot of The Holy City of Hermes, the cold weather could be felt in his bones. James Witterton, the second son of a mediocre noble in the King's City, followed the first prince and heir to the throne of The kingdom of Graycastle. This chance is both so that he could prove to his family that he is ready as a knight as well as increase the reputation of his family. Moreover, as Gerald Wimbledon is the first prince and heir to the throne, increasing his influence should not be a problem. Especially if he can impress and prove himself to the prince in the upcoming Months of Demons.

In his eyes, Gerald Wimbledon, who just turned 23, is someone he is looking up to. Having a strong and rather big following of knights. Gerald's personal retinue already numbered over 500 people. This includes around 50 knights, with their squires as well as various mercenaries and serfs.

As they entered the city, everyone is looking at their direction. The flags of the Kingdom of Greycastle are flying high. Their numbers is one of the bigger groups that arrived this year to help defend the Church from the incoming demons. Outside of their group, there are over 5.000 people that arrived this year in order to defend the Holy City.

Passing through the city, after 15 minutes the convoy stopped. James could not see where and why they stopped, however he imagined that they arrived at the door of the temple. As his nobility ranking is at a lower level compared to the other knights, his position within the knights of Gerald is close to the bottom. Moreover his age is considerable young. At the age of 18, he is considered a greenhorn by most of the other veteran knights. It could be said that he is more of an honorable squire, rather than an actual knight. However he will make sure that this journey will prove everyone wrong improve prestige.

Dismounting from his horse together with the other knights, he walked towards the building. Some of the other knights gave him a disdainful look. One of the other knights even tried to make him trip by putting his foot in front of him. As he did not notice this, he tripped over and his face hit the mud. Laughter could be heard around him. The knight that tripped him, Edgar Herewealth, heir and oldest child of the Herewealth family, mocked him saying: "There he goes again, the clumsy knight of the Wittertons. No wonder, only a failure of a family can produce these useless knights."

His face turning red, James did not know what to do at that situation. He felt as if he is sinking deeper and deeper into the mud. Just then one of the veteran knights came over, calling out with a high voice to the other knights, "Soldiers, get in line and follow the prince, or do I have to retrain your discipline again!" As his voice faded, all the soldiers stopped laughing and got back into order. At this point the veteran knight, Sir Edward Wulfric, came up to James to help him up. "Don't mind them. Just focus on the upcoming battles."

Sir Edward Wulfric is one of the knights in the closer circle of Gerald. He also comes from a less prominent family at the time and fought his way up, during the civil war of King Wimbledon III. Having aligned with the older son of the Wimbledon's at that time, he personally slew the right hand man of the pretender king.
