Chapter 68: Hearing the News

As the snows started to melt, the soldiers were anxious to return back to their homes. It has been over 3 months now that they had left the comfort of their home behind to come here and fight the demonic beasts.

At the infirmary Francis, Christopher and Warren were waiting for James to wake up. The day before, he had opened his eyes for a small period of time. As James finally woke up, he had difficulties remembering what had happened. The last thing he remembers was that they were celebrating the return of Sir Edward.

Waking up, James saw that his three friends were standing by his bedside. Happiness filled him as he finally felt that he was not alone anymore. Catching up with the rest, James heard all about what had happened during the battle and how he got injured. Looking at his wound, he indeed saw that the wound resembled one that was made by a sword. He as well thought that it might have been Edgar. However as his mind was all fuzzy and he could not remember any detail concerning what had happened.

Other things that James heard were that he got a considerable amount of reward from during the ceremony. Especially hearing the amount of 150 gold made James freeze for a moment in shock. He was in disbelieve that he actually received that much. Thinking about the income of his family, this is the profit they would make in 2 to 3 years. And yet he made it in 3 month.

If he returned with this reward, his family would definitely be happy about it all. Moreover, the land he received as well as the title increase will help his family grow in the society and increase their influence and reputation.

That news sure made James happy. Curiously he also asked about when they would start to return. After hearing all that good news, James could not wait to return back home. Moreover back home, his beloved Loraine was waiting for him to be married to. These rewards he received would definitely help convince the bloom family to let them marry.

Francis mentioned that the snow started to melt and that it would take at least another week before there was a travelable road. So there was at least one week left before they started to travel back. After which it would take at least another month to get back to the capital. Looking at the road ahead, James could not wait for it all to be over.

Within the next few days, James finally recovered and was at a state to travel again. The higher-ups told them that tomorrow would be the day to start heading back home. Cleaning up his room and preparing to leave, James though back to the everything that had happened.

From his first kill to the time he got injured. He could not forget how helpful Sir Edward was to him. Moreover, he would treasure the friendships he had made during his stay here. His journey back would definitely be together with them. He might even stay a day or two at the Silver City with Christopher and Warren before heading towards the King's City.

Preparing his luggage for the next day, James went to his bed before laying in it and falling in sleep.
