Chapter 6: Maybe It's just a bad dream

Quick note to my fair readers before I get on with this chapter. I have published another work today titled "Arranged Marriage to the Princess of the Red Scorpions?". I have entered it for a contest so I do hope you will take some time to check it out if it piques your interest. This will not impact my current intended writing schedule as I still plan to update this story everyday until my classes start and my other story, Believing is See each week. I look forward to your support and hope you continue reading. Fun will be coming ahead in the next few chapters.

Juliet was fuming by the time she had left the club and gotten back into her brown Toyota Corolla. The color was not her first choice, but it had been cheapest option at the time, and she had really needed a new car.

Thanks to the unexpected encounter with the mysterious man, she missed her meeting as she found out by the bartender who was kind enough to hand her a note from the man who apologized for being late but promised that he would make up for it by sending her some audio records he had of the meeting.

This note at least meant that she had something to give to her boss, Mr. Charleston that would hopefully keep her from being pulled from the case although she was certain he would still be upset that the meeting didn't take place. Time was money and resources were scares he would always say when it came to people who he felt were a waste of time or he felt did not take their work seriously. This at least meant for the time being she could leave out her cover being semi blown.

Speaking of which, she had hoped the note that was left by said mysterious man would at least provide some insight into who he was. But instead of a name or phone number that she could investigate, all he had left her with was a date, time, and name of a restaurant which eerily was not far from where she lived. After everything else that had gone on that night, she was not sure whether to assume this meant the man knew where she lived, if it was one of his favorite restaurants, or if perhaps he just happened to live in the same area as here.

She didn't really want to go to this dinner or whatever this mysterious man was planning, but she knew there was no other options unless she wanted to report her mistake to her boss. Laying her head against the steering wheel, she closed her eyes. It was late and she had a day and a half to figure out what she was going to do. If it wasn't already almost midnight, she would have contacted one of her friends and asked for their advice, it was not the best options as Juliet knew the moment she breathed a word about it, they'd be all over her with the questions and suggestions as to what she should do, wear, act, say which would all be counter intuitive to what she wanted. All her closest friends who knew about her job and wouldn't snitch on her happened to be romantics because unlike her, they worked in normal jobs which allowed for down time and romance.

Juliet on other hand had nothing against romance, she just had never felt it was compatible for the line of work that she wanted to go into. Being an undercover detective meant she had to be very particular as to who she associated with. Not only because if she got found out they would become a liability, but also because anyone other than family could pose a risk of working on the wrong side of the field and blow her cover.

Her friends had tried countless times to set her up on dates or take her with them when they went on group dates, but after the first time when her 'date' got a little too drunk and attempted to feel her up outside of one of the clubs she frequented with her friends and she accidentally broke his nose when he ignored her when she said to stop, she decided that it was best for the near future to not think about romance and dating until a later point.

Pulling her phone out, Juliet decided that for the time being, she would settle with sending her boss an email containing her full report of the evening, a picture of the note that she had been given, anything else she felt was important and ask what her next course of action should be. Once she got that out of the way, she could text one of her more reliable friends and ask them for lunch tomorrow and hope they agreed so she could ask some advice.

After deciding upon this, she felt slightly less stressed, especially since there was not much else she could for the night and determined that her best course of action once she was done with her work would be to get home, eat a quick snack, crawl into bed and hope that maybe when she woke up the next morning that everything would turn out to have been a bad dream and there was actually nothing that she needed to worry about in the first place. She would be able to finish her job and the mystery man she met tonight would end up being a figment of her imagination that she would not have to worry about having dinner with on Monday.

If these mental assurances failed to help Juliet manage to fall asleep, she knew that she could always turn to having a little bit of alcohol which was certain would help to be able to get a good night's rest.
