Chapter 33: Chapter Thirty-Three

I sat in my bed staring down at the training grounds. I could just make out Sparrow and Raven training there, and I smiled. The two of them worked hard every day, they were the youngest captains in our kingdom, and they were due for a promotion via merit. I wanted them to get the promotion, because then they might not end up going to war. I didn't want that for them, even if they might rapidly rise through the ranks again because of it. I knew even if we were supposed to only support the other two, we would probably get dragged into the conflict. I didn't want them, two outstanding knights, to die like veal to the slaughter, but I knew they most probably would.

I turned to the documents on my lap, and started to study them thoroughly. I had always been good at this kind of work, even during my last life. I had helped my grandfather and uncle with their shop, and by helped I mean I did most of the paperwork. They looked over it, but I mainly did it. That earned me three squares a day, and a roof over my head, but I had always been told I was lucky for that. Ahh, that's probably why I work so hard to excel now, it's just habit.

I leaned back and stretched before returning to my work, feeling restless from being in bed for so long.

"Rosie!" The first prince and a boy, looking to be about our age strolled in. The boy had untidy silver hair and brilliant green eyes, and he followed the first prince like a puppy.

"Hello prince." He pouted for me not calling him his name and I sighed heavily before continuing.

"Who is your friend?" He brightened instantly, so easy, and turned to introduce the boy.

"His name is Lance Williams. He's the son of Drake Williams, you know the Duke of lake?" I nodded. The Duke of Lake, the lake province was to the north, and it was one of the wealthiest and stable areas in the country. The Duke tolerated no aristocratical nonsense, and the people always had enough to eat no matter what. The Duke their was equal to the King there, but he never had interest in the back fighting of politics and only cared about his province. He was the most loyal member of our party however, as his sister was the Queen, and he cared about her immensely.
