Chapter 39: Chapter Thirty-Nine

"Hurry Rose, let's hide!" Willow cries and we split apart to hide from Arthur, the seeker of our hide-and-seek game. I tripped going down a hill and rolled to the bottom and into a tree, or more appropriately, under the tree, literally. I had rolled into a hole between the roots and was under where the tree sat, hidden beneath it's very roots. I checked myself, but I had managed to escape the tumble without a scrape. I looked around the small hole and I checked around the small hole. I had to climb up to get out, as the hole had a small drop I had fallen into. I climbed carefully up, and slowly managed to tug my way up, and when I finally was able to poke my head above ground it was dark outside. The castle was ablaze with candles and lanterns and knights were running about searching for something. I tried to climb out all the way, but the ditch was too tall, and I could only lift myself enough to peek over the edge. How was it dark? The moons directly overhead, it was early morning a moment ago! What happened? I attempted to climb despite how tall it was and the dirt crumbled and I fell down, finally bruising myself, and my ankle made a sickening crack when I landed badly on a loose rock. I let out a small cry when I felt the crack. The noise caught the ear of a close guard with incredibly good hearing. He dashed towards my area, and the other guards seeing his sudden fast movement moved towards him. I let another small whimper out as I tried move my ankle, and the knight moved directly towards the hole, and catching sight of the hole from the view of the torch he leaned down and saw me sprawled in the dirt, holding my ankle.

"I've found her!" The guard call and suddenly the sounds of fast paced movement and the grinding of armor. Another face appeared moments later, and it was Raven. He hopped down with far more agility then I could ever have.

"Be careful, something's weird with this tree." I warned and he froze, careful not to touch it as he leaned down and carefully picked me up, and handed me to a guard above.

"What do you mean Rose?" He asks carefully, I knew he was probably thinking I was just saying things from the pain, but I clenched my teeth and explained.

"The tree can stop time, or slow it I'm not sure, but a second ago it was still morning for me." I saw them eye each other before Raven finally spoke,

"I'll take her to the Infirmary, Noah, go ask the head mage or a proxy to verify that. We've gotten stories of a tree stopping time before, I think this could be it. It would make sense, it being centered around the garden like this, I always wondered why there was a tree here." At that the guards nodded in understanding, and Raven climbed up from the hole that had held me captive and took me from a guard.
