I spent the rest of the day transferring my available foodstuffs to the cellar, affixing a sturdy stock lock to the door, and then marking off the dimensions of the field I intended to plant when one of Mr. Deere’s iron-bladed plows arrived. I resolved to check on its delivery tomorrow while I was in town.

I thought I knew every book in the library Billy had collected over the years, but I discovered an unread tome ascribed to Plato holding forth on Socratic logic and ethics. It was interesting enough to consume the evening.
