Chapter 51: Hightened Gemini

Midnight, I made my way down to the courtyard to conduct the separating ceremony. Daniel stood next to me as a witch came at us.

The question "Are you ready?" The witch politely inquired. She drew the blade across my palm as I extended my hand. She drew an old magical symbol on a tree in the courtyard, and I winced.

I shouted, "Daniel," and fell into his arms as the anguish struck me like a truck, robbing me of my ability to breathe. The tree began to light up, and I turned to face the witch. I experienced a surge of light that tore me from Daniel's embrace and left me hovering above him. I caressed the magic that was pressing into my body out of reflex. The enchantment wasn't simply magic; it was also happiness and light, with no hints of evil.

"Is that what's supposed to happen?" Daniel questioned me as his terrified gaze clung to my upper torso.
