Chapter 38: Death and I Do

With each step I took through the woods, a twig broke under my foot. I stopped short of stopping my now-frenzied attempt to save Eric and myself. After cutting down another row of trees, my body received a shock. As I crashed to the ground, a scream tore through me. I moaned helplessly as I tried to run away.

The man exclaimed, "It's Eric's girl," and the other grabbed my arm, pulling me swiftly to my feet.

"Eric, your girlfriend is with us; leave right away, or she'll die! My captor roared as he held me. I made an attempt to use my powers but was unsuccessful. My powers must have been confused by the electricity.

Looking at the man, I begged, "Please let me go. I support you.

So why stay with him? The guy chuckled.

I gasped as he smacked me across the face. "To save my family," he said. "Eric's life is intertwined with mine and the lives of my family."

The man snarled, "Stop lying; you don't have a family," as tears flowed down my cheeks.
