Chapter 2: Awakening
Onyx looked at the old man in confusion. "What do you mean ?", she asked. The man smiled at her warmly. "I can sense a very powerful dark energy sealed within your soul", he said. "It's been there since you were born." Onyx frowned. "This isn't a very funny joke, you know ! I -" "This energy is a dark energy and it could be very dangerous if you allow it to stay unchecked.", the man continued. "But it can also be the source of great power."
Onyx felt fear and incomprehension, she didn't understand. Why her ? Why now ? "What do I do ?" she whispered timidly. "You must learn to control the energy within you, it could consume your soul if you don't.", the old man said grimly. Somehow, the man seemed so serious that Onyx couldn't help but believe what he said. She was scared, but at the same time she felt she now had an opportunity. If she was as powerful as the old man said, she might be able to take revenge on this world which had mistreated her so much.
"We're running out of time", the man said suddenly with urgency in his voice, as he glanced around, checking if there was anyone overhearing the conversation before rummaging his hand deep inside his cloak, and pulling out a small, smooth stone. On his right hand was a tattoo of a dragon, its intricate details suggesting that it was not a recent addition. The dragon seemed to come to life as the light caught it, its scales glistening in the sun. The tattoo was so realistic that it appeared to be moving, as if it was alive and breathing.
The old man put the dark gem inside of her hand and closed her fingers around it. "When you feel ready, eat this. ", the man said. "It will undo part of the seal on your powers. The rest is up to you." She was about to talk, but the man simply uttered a "Farewell, young lady", before disappearing into wisps of black smoke. She tried to stop him, but the elusive man was already gone.
Onyx was at loss. Everything had happened so quickly she wasn't even sure it had happened at all. However, the black gem in her hand was a sure proof that she hadn't been tormented by some sort of cruel illusion, and the situation she had at hand was very real. She wondered what to do, and if she should trust the old man and eat the gem.
Onyx stared at the stone in her hand, mesmerized by its shimmering surface. It was an unusual stone, unlike any she had ever seen before. It was smooth and polished, with a deep black color that seemed to swallow light. It was heavy too, and she could feel its weight in her hand. As she turned the stone over in her hand, she noticed that there were strange symbols etched into its surface. They were unlike any language she had ever seen before, but they seemed to glow faintly in the light. She felt a strange pull towards the symbols, as if they were trying to tell her something.
She was afraid that if she didn't do as the man said, her powers might consume her soul as the old man had warned, so she immediately consumed the crystal. At first, nothing particular happened, and she thought the old man must have pulled some sort of prank. However, she was completely caught off-guard by the strange sensation that came next.
It felt like an electric current was building up inside her body, pulsating inside her, and as this energy intensified, Onyx felt a strange sense of empowerment that she had never felt before. She suddenly became aware of everything around her, and then there was darkness.
When Onyx woke up, the first thing she heard was a blaring robotic voice. It said "System Initiating". suddenly, a green screen appeared in front of her eyes. The screen read [SYSTEM INITIATING...], and a new window then appeared.
