Chapter 66: Rise of a New Swordmaster

"Leif! Get ready. Attack it from the left side while I attack from the right."

"Got it!"

The two quickly formulated a basic but effective battle plan which is to attack from different angles. As the ogre deals with one person's attack, the other person can attack safely.

This tactic is especially effective against slow opponents like this ogre.

The ogre didn't waste any time and attacked first.

It tried to smash Leif first as it immediately determined that Leif was a little bit weaker than Alexander.

Unfortunately for the ogre, Leif was able to dodge its attack.

Alexander didn't waste any time either.

After realizing that the ogre was going for Leif, he immediately charged towards the ogre and gave it a stab around its spine.

*CLANG*

Alexander was surprised after hearing a "metallic" sound upon successfully stabbing the ogre.

His sword dug into the ogre's flesh but upon hitting the spine, the sword was unable to pierce through.

Nonetheless, the ogre was still hurt by the attack.

It roared in rage at Alexander and it wildly swung its huge wooden club towards him as it turned around to retaliate.

Seeing that the huge wooden club was aimed at him, Alexander immediately stepped back to dodge the blow.

Leif didn't miss this chance as he quickly charged towards the ogre and slashed horizontally at the ogre's ankles.

*SPURT*

Success!

Leif was able to inflict a shallow cut on the ogre's left ankle.

*ROOOAAAAAAARR*

The ogre staggered as it started to lose balance.

Leif seemed to have struck an important nerve or tissue located in the ogre's ankle which caused some difficulties for the ogre.

Perfect synergy!

Leif and Alexander fought alongside each other for a long time now so their battle chemistry was flawless.

The ogre was slowly losing without even being able to land a single hit.

Similar back-and-forth strikes happened and the ogre was being worn down slowly but surely.

It didn't have the regenerative abilities of a troll so even though it had a tougher body than the troll, its body would collapse under accumulated small strikes.

Alexander and Leif learned from their battle against the Yeti where they were struck unconscious after falling into the Yeti's trap.

This time, they played it more patiently and didn't rush in for the kill immediately. Slowly but surely inflicting shallow cuts all over the ogre's body.

They knew they would be able to win as long as they kept this up.

The ogre also knew that it would die at this rate and it couldn't accept the fact that it was about to lose to some puny little creatures.

It was unknown what the cause was but the ogre's skin slowly started to turn red and its red pupils slowly became pitch black.

Its body started emitting some sort of red smoke as it seemed to have gone berserk.

A few moments later, the ogre started to wildly swing its huge wooden club around at a way faster rate.

Although the two battalion commanders' teamwork was flawless, they were starting to have some difficulties in finding the ogre's openings.

The ogre was rampaging around and the huge wooden club almost hit Leif and Alexander a few times.

Helena was watching the action from afar and she couldn't help but break into a cold sweat for her two subordinates.

She could only hope that they can deal with this situation.

After patiently dodging for a while, Leif finally found an opening as the ogre was charging towards Alexander.

He charged towards the ogre and slashed diagonally at the ogre's nape to try and finish it off.

No one could have expected the ogre's next move as it suddenly turned around while swinging its huge wooden club all over the place in a berserk manner.

Unfortunately for Leif, he happened to be struck by one of the ogre's wild swings and he was sent flying while spurting blood from his mouth.

"Leif!"

"Commander Leif!!

"Shit! Leif!"

Helena and her men exclaimed worriedly.

Luckily for Leif, he was able to somehow block the wild swing with his sword so he managed to avoid instant death. However, he was incapacitated by the attack.

The ogre felt that his huge wooden club struck someone so it immediately looked towards Leif's direction.

It gave a wide creepy smile after seeing Leif incapacitated on the ground.

"Leif!!"

Alexander exclaimed as he gritted his teeth in rage after seeing that Leif was hit by that lucky shot.

The ogre didn't give up this chance as it immediately ran towards Leif to finish him off.

"Not good!"

Upon realizing the ogre's intentions, Alexander quickly rushed in front of Leif to protect him from the ogre's attack.

*ROOOOOOAAAAAAARRR*

The ogre swung its huge wooden club downward in an attempt to smash Leif.

In response, Alexander held his weapon horizontally and raised it above his head in an attempt to block the attack.

*BANG!*

"Buhhaaa!…"

Alexander spat out blood but he somehow managed to block the ogre's attack.

However, the blow heavily damaged his entire body including his internal organs.

There was no way he could take another hit.

Unfortunately for him, the ogre wasted no time as it quickly swung its huge wooden club down again to finish off both of them.

"Alexander! Leif!"

"Commander Leif!"

"Commander Alexander!"

"Shit! Alex! Leif!"

Helena and the other battalion commanders immediately sprang into action to try and save the two battalion commanders but they were a step too late!

The huge wooden club is in full downward motion and it seems that Alexander and Leif were about the be smashed into meat paste!

Alexander's life flashed before his eyes as he suddenly remembered all of his past experiences.

His family, his comrades, and his general Helena who patiently taught him swordsmanship.

There were people waiting for him to return! He didn't want to die! He couldn't die here!

Alexander looked straight into the ogre's eyes and the ogre was surprised upon seeing Alexander's expression.

This human had no fear in his eyes even in his final moments!

Just as the huge wooden club was about to hit Alexander, he quickly slashed diagonally upwards.

Instead of blocking again, he chose to attack this time.

He didn't even look at the huge wooden club that was swinging down at him.

Alexander was looking straight at the ogre's neck as if it was only natural for him to cut through both the huge wooden club and the ogre's neck.

There was no hesitation in his eyes that he would be able to cut through the huge wooden club.

At that very moment, he was as sharp as a sword.

*SPURT*

Blood splattered on the ground.

Helena was dumbfounded upon seeing the result of the clash.

Blue sword intent extended from Alexander's sword which helped him cut through both the huge wooden club and the ogre's neck.

The ogre's headless body fell forward as its giant head rolled on the ground and stopped just a few meters away from Helena and the others.

At this very moment, a new Swordmaster has risen.
