Chapter 5: Funds Secured!
"So.. Here's the plan. First, I made some bandit bait behind us."
Blanc said as he looked in the direction of the sacks.
"I filled some sacks with rocks and dirt to make them look like goods. The plan here is to lure the bandits to attack us."
"Then, Helena and I will beat them up and capture the leader."
"Lastly, we shall raid their bases in order to get some money since we are a little low on money right now after buying the horse cart."
"Although a bit risky, we need money in order to reach our destination so we need to do this."
Blanc patiently explained.
"Well, I don't have any problem with the plan but wouldn't it be a little hard for us to raid bandits with just the two of us?" Helena asked.
"Don't worry, I made sure to only target the small bandit groups that we can handle."
Blanc replied.
"Sounds good to me! I can finally fight again." Helena replied spiritedly.
"Hey hey, big bro Blanc how about me? What's my role?" Adelaine asked.
"Oh...Well… Just scream loud and act scared when the bandits intercept us." Blanc replied.
"What?! That's such a lame role!"
Adelaine complained but then continued
"Well, as long as I can help the two of you, that's fine I guess."
In the end, Adelaine complied and just sat down quietly on the horse cart while looking at the scenery.
The three of them just continued chatting on the way until they were on the territory of their first small bandit group victims.
"You two, get ready! Start acting like we are some lost merchant group. The bandits should start attacking us anytime now."
Upon hearing Blanc's reminder, the two immediately assumed their roles and waited.
After a while, grating chuckles and voices with mocking tones can be heard.
"Hehehehe! Looks like today is our lucky day boss, just look at this merchant caravan they seem to have lots of goods. In addition, there are two beautiful women.
"Ohhh can I try them after you boss?"
"Well, well, I'm in a good mood due to this fat sheep. I might consider giving the younger one to you guys to play with. I'll be having my way with that tall chick over there."
The bandits were eyeing and splitting up their "spoils" as if they were already in the bag.
Veins popped up on Helena's forehead. She was immediately pissed off upon hearing the rude words of the bandits, she wanted to give them a beating as soon as possible.
However, Blanc warned her to be a little more patient and wait for the boss to come closer so they could beat up the bandits and capture the boss in one go.
"AaaaAaaahhh!! Someone! Help! bandits are attacking us!" Adelaine screamed in "fear".
"Hehehehe! Little girly, there's no one that can save you here. This is our territory and you stupid lot just entered our raiding grounds. "
"There's no escape for you guys here so just be obedient and we'll make you feel good." the bandit boss mocked.
The bandit group continued to walk closer while surrounding the horse cart.
"Look at them, they're just frozen with fe-!"
The boss' words were cut short and shattered teeth came flying as soon as the bandit boss got into Helena's range.
"W-What's happening?! Boss!" a bandit exclaimed.
"What did you say earlier?! Come! Why don't you say it again now?! HUH?!! say it again!"
Helena cursed in anger.
She immediately cleaned up the remaining bandits with Blanc and then they tied up the boss with a rope.
"Please...Spare me! I can give you all that we have. Just please, don't kill me!"
The bandit boss pleaded.
"Phew, that's a little too easy, isn't it? well, whatever. As long as we achieve our goals, that's good enough for me. I'll hand them over to you Blanc." Helena said
Blanc walked towards the bandit boss.
"Just give me all the silver coins that you have, and we will release you. However, your scoundrels cannot be spared." Blanc threatened.
"Yes.. yes, I don't care about those dogs, as long as you release me." The bandit boss said in desperation.
"Well then lead us to your lair. If you dare fool us…"
Blanc looked towards Helena who was cracking her fists.
"Hiiiiiiihhh!! Yes, I won't fool you. I promise!"
The bandit boss led the three of them to their lair.
After a while, the three of them finished looting everything that they could use including a few dried foods.
Seeing that there was nothing else that was valuable, Blanc signaled Helena to finish off the bandit boss.
There's no way they would let a bad guy be on the loose, especially after saying such nauseating words to Helena and Adelaine.
"Y-You lia-" The bandit boss' voice was cut short as Helena snapped his neck.
"Phew! We looted a good amount of coins. The silver coins we got will probably last us until we get to our destination. Having some extra won't hurt though so let's do at least three more raids after this. Blanc said.
"Sure! Leave the beating up to me!" Helena said happily.
The three of them went back happily to their horse cart and stored the silver coins in the cart with Adelaine keeping watch.
Soon after, the three continued on their journey again.
Identical scenarios happened three more times to other bandit groups as Blanc and Helena ruthlessly looted the bandits and then cleaned them up afterward.
"Nice work guys! we have secured our funds for the foreseeable future. Now, we can avoid the other bandit spots and focus on our travel towards the capital."
Blanc drove the horse cart on a regular road heading towards the capital, not going out of their way anymore just to lure bandit groups.
Days passed and the three of them did nothing but chat, rest, camp, and eat.
This routine continued on for a few weeks before they finally saw a huge bustling city with fortified walls and groups of people going in and out of the gates.
"Look! Look! Big bro Blanc! we're finally at the capital. I hope everyone is safe and we can meet them soon." Adelaine said with a bit of excitement.
Even as a rich daughter of the Count, she never managed to visit the Capital because she was still too young to travel and play around on her own.
Blanc acknowledged her remark and the three of them proceeded towards the queue at the gate in order to enter.
Finally, they arrived at the Lockridge kingdom's capital, Lockridge City.
