Chapter 61: To begin a small fire

During lunch, everyone was invited and enjoyed the sumptuous food served for them. They had at least found a simple joy in the midst of the situation they are in. Endo's father and brother also joined them and volunteered to help them in any plan the group had. they wanted to help their family in this time of crisis.

Arthur had sent a message to General Emrys using his wind spirits and while waiting for his answer, they gathered all information they have so far and one by one analyzed it again.

Meanwhile, General Emrys was currently inside his study and was still pondering on his dilemma when a gust of wind blew the curtain to the room. He looked back and frowned, he returned his gaze on his table and saw a piece of paper on it. He picked it up and read its contents. He took a small piece of paper and wrote his answer. He left the paper on his table and was amazed when a small ball of wind engulfed the paper until it disappeared. The wind left through the window and disappeared.

Levhon and the others received the answer, they did not waste any more time and set off to the general's manor. They were received and were led to the general's study. General Emrys let them sit on the seats pre-prepared for them.

"I have heard of your reputation among the merchants here in Westdenn," he started.

"It is my pleasure that a person of your position has heard of me," Mr. Mazir gave a business smile which he only gives to the people he had business deals with.

"Of course, I have even heard of the Crescent Moon since I had acquaintances who had greatly praised that store for its quality products and good customer service," he nodded and his words seem to be genuine enough for the two men but they still treated it as just pleasantries.

Levhon gave an awkward laugh and answered, "Yes, it was doing great but regrettably, I have to close it down for now but I am still hoping that I can open again after everything had settled down."

The atmosphere inside the room turned serious at the mention of what they were currently facing. General Emrys had guessed what the two men wanted to talk to him about. Levhon had a son who was a remnant and was currently one of the most wanted people in Glasfale and he knew that Mr. Mazir was a close friend of the family.

"We know that you are currently in a difficult situation but we still wanted to come and ask for your help," Levhon directly said without any filters. There's no point in them to go around than just directly saying what they had come for in the first place.

"Yes, I am in a difficult spot right now. The officials of Westdenn had become more aggressive now that a massacre involving a remnant happened. What I can tell you now is that I will not be able to hold this balance any longer. Sooner or later I need to stand on the side of the ruler of the kingdom but even so, I have prepared and emergency plan for any remnants that do not want to be involved in this matter." General Emrys and leaned on his seat and looked at them calmly. He had established this plan right after the news exploded. Some of the remnants under him had already expressed their unwillingness to remain inside Westdenn and chose to leave. "I have already established an escape route to any remnant who wanted to leave this place and ensure that they will be able to find a safer place to stay."

"Were there any remnants that had already left Westdenn?" they were a little bit stunned at the information. It was actually great news.

"Yes, many of the remnants under my protection had already left Westdenn and some of the families of the remnants who did not survive at the military institute had already left. They expressed that they did not want to be even more implicated. They said that they had already lost too much because of this unpleasant situation." General Emrys answered with a slightly sad voice. This was the only thing he could for them.

"That is good then, at least we have an option just in case this matter will cause a fight between the remnants and non-remnants," Levhon heaved a sigh of relief at this news. He would talk to his children and encourage them to leave Westdenn for the time being. They can always return after the issue was solved.

"We have another problem though," he suddenly inserted during the silence. "Even though I can help the remnants find a safer place for them, but the Remnant Aegis are not satisfied with this kind of arrangement." He shook his head at how he remembered how that group shunned him and not letting him explain this plan a little bit further.

"Remnant Aegis, this is the first time I have ever heard of that group," Mr. Mazir expressed his doubts with a frown on his face.

General Emrys could understand the confuse looks on both of them, the existence of this group is only known to a few people and the reason why he knew about ii is that because he had a favorable relationship with remnants. "Yes, this group had been existing ever since remnants started appearing. They formed this group to cater and protect the interest of remnants. Although they are not officially recognized by the Supreme Commander of Glasfale, they still hold a bit of power. Every major city in Glasfale has a Remnant Aegis stationed in it and in this case this group had strongly opposed every move the officials are doing against the remnants. I have suggested to them to leave Westdenn for the meantime but they refused. They said that if they leave now, then they are proving that all the accusations against them are true." General Emrys explained the situation and with the addition of this group, the matter had become more complicated.

Mr. Mazir and Levhon fell into silence as they digest what the general had said. If an organized group as fierce as the officials then the possibility of a skirmish happening had risen. They both thought that remaining in Westdenn would be more dangerous.

"Thank you general for the information. We will contact you again once we have prepared everything. I think it is also better for us to leave Westdenn for the meantime. If a clash between these groups of people happen, I'm afraid that my family would be in more danger since my son is one of the fugitives they are hunting," Levhon stood up and nodded towards the general. He wanted to leave immediately and prepare all the necessary things they need along the journey. He had already decided to leave.

General Emrys understood and did not take any more time and let them leave. He would also be busy in preparing an escort for them.

After they left the general's manor, they both relayed what they learned from the general and told them about their decision.

"We will be leaving Westdenn, as soon as possible, I don't want to remain here any longer and be caught up with a fight that might break out anytime," Levhon faced Dreigh with a stern look.

"I agree with Dreigh's father, we should leave this place and let the fire die down before we return. If we stay here, we might be caught in an unnecessary trouble," for the first time Arthur expressed his thoughts to them. The remnants also feel this way. They'd rather avoid any trouble especially now that they had a hunch that someone was orchestrating all that is happening inside Westdenn.

"Father, brother you should also return home and ready everything we need for a journey. I don't want to leave you here, this matter is not only about me now, it involves our whole family. Please father, we need to go to a safer place for now until things calm down." Endo looked at his brother and father and both of them nodded. They also felt that leaving is a better option than stubbornly staying in a place where they can't guarantee their safety.

Without any more talks, Dreigh and the other remnants helped Mr. Mazir and Levhon in preparing everything they would need on the journey while Endo's father and brother returned home to pack some of their necessity that they should bring with them.

"They took the bait," a man's voice echoed in dark surrounding.

"Good. Have you prepared the other things?" a woman stepped out of the shadow and looked at the blindfolded kneeling man in front of her.

"Yes, we had already prepared it. At your command, we would immediately execute the plan," the man's bland voice answered.

Valkyrie nodded in satisfaction. A little bit more and they would soon see some result, well she hopes to see a satisfactory result because if this plan would result into failure, she would certainly be upset. And if she is upset, then he would also be more disappointed her.

"Okay you may leave, be sure to do everything according to the plan. We don't want this one to be also a failure, do you understand?" she warned the man.

"Yes I understand," the man remained kneeling until Valkyrie once again merged with the shadows. He stood up and was gone in the blink of an eye leaving no trace behind.
