"Mm. Mmmm. Mm."
Tossing and turning. Weis groggily opened his eyes. With the sun peaking into the window and the curtains waving in the wind, he sat up an rubbed his eyes. After stretching he got up. Yesterday was great and all, but today he wanted to get to the bottom of some things. His grandpa would not be here forever.
'I will try to ask about the marines and pirates. I want to know if Gol D. Roger is alive or dead. But I better call him Gold Roger like everybody else. Maybe also try to find out something about the World Government. Are they as bad as in the story he knows.
After going through several questions in his head, Weis went to the bathroom for his morning business and ate breakfast with his family. After that he wanted to ask to skip swimming today but his father was quicker than him.
"Weis, today you will be with your Grandpa. Your mother and I are going on a date. Since your Grandpa will leave tomorrow, take advantadge of this time and spent some time with him."
Weis nodded and after seeing his mother and father off with his Grandfather, they both looked at each other.
"So Weis. What are we going to do. Do you want to go swim? But then you need to show me the spot where you go normally with your mother."
"No. Grandpa. We can go to the beach, but I want to ask you some questions. About this world, the marines, the pirates and the Devilfruits. I have so many questions."
Sengoku looked slightly suprised, but then nodded his head.
"Very well. Then let's go to the beach."
Before going they packed some drinks and snacks as well as some sunglasses.
Along the way Weis was thingking about the questions he was going to ask, while Sengoku was observing his grandson think. Seeing Weis be in deep thought at the start, but gradually glancing around and paying more attention to the scene around him, Sengoku let out a small chuckle.
After coming to the beach they found the small tree under which Weis tried writing. The shade was perfect, coupled together with the view of the glittering sea gently waving in the lagune. Weis was intoxicated and at peace with the view. Even Sengoku felt at peace at this moment and was enjoying the scene before him. Neither talked for a while. Both just sat there and watched the sea.
After a good amount of time Sengoku sighted.
"What a view. I guess some things will be forgotten with time."
Weis turned and saw his grandpa looking to the sea with slight melancolic eyes.
"What do you mean, grandpa?"
"Hm? Oh. You see, Weis. Grandpa met Grandma on this Island. But because I believed that my help was needed I left your grandma and mother behind. It was selfish but I needed to do it. I heard and saw the suffering of the world. And I knew I could't ignore it. That it was my duty to help. Even if that meant sacrificing everything."
Hearing his grandfather muse about why he did what he did, Weis listened without interupting.
"The whole world was nearly overrun with Pirates. They were so numerous that some people just gave up hope and became Pirates themselves. Why bother fighting against it, when you can join them and reduce the risk. Why must I suffer, when I can forget my morals and indulge in making others suffer. The World Government and the Marines were in dissarray and barely keeping Order. They lacked people. Too many fronts were embroiled in fights. That's where I joined the Marines, to be a beacon of Hope for the normal people. So that they can enjoy their lifes without worry. To be assured, that we have their back and that we protect them. We, the Marines were Hope. We, are Hope. We, are Justice."
The last sentence was spoken with so much conviction and belief, that Weis could only stare at his grandfather with awe. He seemed to radiate in the sun.
"So did you win? Did you defeat all Pirates?"
"Sadly we could not. We only managed to contain the problem. Pirates were being taken down and hunted, but some were too powerful. There was a Pirate who was so strong that he fought many people on his own. He was cruel and brutal. He was a Devil incarnate. And if that was not bad enough, his crew was also strong. They rampaged across the seas and we could only watch. We fought many battles, until he was finally defeated.", spoke Sengoku with a shadow over his eyes.
"Wow. So you managed to take him down? What was his name?"
"His name. I should not tell you his name, for he was erased from history."
"Oh, come on grandpa. What was his name?"
'Come on. I need info here.', thought Weis while trying to press his grandpa for the name.
"Haaa. Ok ok. His name was Rocks. Rocks D. Quebec."
Sengoku raised his head and looked into the ocean.
"The Rocks Pirates. The Butchers. The Devils."
*WOOSH*
A strong wind surged and clouds covered the sky. The shadows grew and the whole world seemed to be painted dark.
The last word was almost whispered and a cold shudder traveled down the spine of Weis. He could hear the despair and hate in the tone of his grandpa.
Weis swallowed.
Hearing the sound Sengoku snapped out of his memories and coughed.
"But they were defeated. All roads have an end. It's just how you walk the road, that determines the way the end greets you, when you reach it. And it the case of the Rocks, it was disbanding of the crew and the death of the Captain."
The clouds moved and the sun took it's rightful place in the sky, seemingly trying to show the world that it was the King. Burning all shadows away.
