Rayne's door slammed open as Peter barged in, yelling "Hey, we'll be late if we don't go now!" Peter looked down at Rayne, who was sitting on the floor, fiddling with a sniper rifle.
"What are you doing, Rayne?" Peter asked. During the week they had spent together, they had not only become good friends, but Peter's confidence had also improved significantly.
"Can't you see I'm tuning up my rifle?" Rayne replied, as he checked all the enchantments he had added. Once he confirmed that everything was in place, he stood up and looked at Peter, who was still admiring the rifle.
"You want one?" Rayne asked in a joking manner. Peter immediately nodded, and Rayne replied, "Oh, I don't think I have an extra one."
Hearing this, Peter was saddened a little bit, but he didn't let it show on his face. "Wait a minute, I think I have one," Rayne said, before going to the trunk that he kept in his room. He pretended to rummage through it while summoning a magnum. Seeing it brought back bad memories of how his brother Salazar, not by blood, sacrificed himself for the kingdom. Before his death, Salazar gave Rayne this magnum revolver, saying that it would one day save his life.
As Rayne inspected the revolver for enchantments, he saw two: [Power III], which increased the firepower of the gun, and a one-time use enchantment [Miracle]. The description said that this gun had the ability to perform miracles at the most desperate times.
"Here take this and take this ammo also," Rayne said as he handed Peter the gun and the ammos.
"Please don't use it in front of others. You know how rare a beast weapon like a gun is. You can already imagine what would happen. And if you must use it, use it only when absolutely necessary," Rayne said to Peter. Afterward, he shooed Peter out of his room, changed into his school clothes, and put on his boots. He then stored the rifle in his inventory before exiting his dorm room. Along with Peter, he made his way towards the training hall where Vorden, Layla, Quinn, and Erin were already present with a rucksack in the center. As Rayne looked around, he saw that in the center of each team was a large rucksack that contained the necessary supplies for every team. These included food pills that lasted up to a month, water purifying pills, and first aid supplies.
"Alright, boys and girls," Del said, standing in front of the portal. "I have some important information for you before you head into the portal, so listen up. When you enter the portal, the communication device on your wrist will no longer work. It is crucial to keep physical touch with the person next to you; otherwise, you will be teleported to another location. Also, you will randomly be teleported somewhere inside the Shelter. Do not be alarmed. The whole Shelter is safe and guarded by the military and other travelers. The expedition will last a week, and the goal is to bring back as many beast crystals as possible. The team with the most beast crystals at the end of the week will get the highest score. The highest tier beast you will encounter on a green portal planet is an intermediate beast. However, this is rare. If you come across one, please avoid confrontation and head to a different location," Del explained.
"Inside the Shelter, there is a military base with a storage room where they will keep track of the crystals you have obtained. I suggest you do this at regular intervals so that you do not lose all your crystals. Our class is the first to enter, and every hour, another first-year class will be sent. I hope this class stays competitive like your teacher," Del continued to explain about the portal outings. He advised the other students not to travel too far from the original Shelter they were based at. Although there were several shelters scattered around the planet, there was no one to guide them between each one. And not every Shelter had a military base. The test would begin as soon as the first team landed on the planet, and it was up to them to decide how they should pace themselves while hunting. The whole aim was to allow the students to get to the point where they could be self-sufficient.
"Please keep track of time and be well-rested. This planet's day cycle is 72 hours of sunlight before it gets dark for another 72 hours, so you will need to keep track of the time yourselves. That is everything I need to say," Del ended his speech.
At that moment, Vorden and Layla turned to look at Quinn, who stood there with his mouth wide open. "Don't worry, Quinn," Layla said. "I packed the umbrella."
"Pft, Umbrella," Vorden said. "I got something even better." Vorden then reached into the bag to pull out some sun cream. "I think this might do the trick," Vorden said.
Peter looked at them arguing before turning to Rayne, who just dejectedly sighed before making a sign with his hand, indicating that maybe their screw was loose. He then motioned towards Erin, asking about her, to which he entered a deep thinking position before saying with hand signs that maybe she was the sanest person among this group. Layla could only look at Rayne, thinking about what his reaction would be when he stayed in the sun for so many hours. But she didn't expect that Rayne had already made a plan before coming here. After a while, their group was finally called, and Erin went to pick up the Rucksack. Peter picked it up in one swift motion, displaying his nimbleness and agility. As Erin looked, she saw that it was Peter.
"Don't bother. I will be carrying this for you, senorita," Peter said, trying his hardest not to die of embarrassment when he spoke those words. Meanwhile, all the student bodies that were still present, including Quinn, Layla, and Vorden, were slack-jawed, while Rayne was trying his hardest not to laugh.
"Do whatever you want," Erin said and flung her hair backward, making them flow. After that, the group stood in a row, each holding onto the shoulder of the person in front.
"Now, remember, don't let go," Del instructed. "In seven days, you are to head to the military base and return through the portal back here."
One by one, they walked through, and an odd feeling came over their bodies. Then finally, Peter was the last one to enter.
