Annabel couldn't completely understand what had just happened. One minute, she was standing in the middle of a bustling party, surrounded by laughter and music, and the next moment, she found herself inexplicably standing on water that stretched endlessly in every direction she could see. Above her, the clear blue sky was vast and serene, making the whole situation feel surreal. But what had been even stranger was that when she looked down at the water, the reflection glancing back up at her was unmistakably her original appearance, the same appearance which she almost forgot even though it's only been a few months.
"Am I dead again?" This question slipped from Annabel's lips before she even realized it. The words seemed to hang in the air, echoing in the confusion that enveloped her. But to her, this was the only explanation that made sense in this strange, surreal place. It felt like she was caught in a dream, one that blurred the lines between reality and the unknown. As she took in her surroundings, she was still bewildered by the fact that she had returned to her ordinary appearance, just as she remembered herself, yet everything around her felt so profoundly different. It felt almost foreign to her.
However, suddenly the sound of laughter reached her ears, causing Annabel to be shocked as there was clearly no one in sight when she spun around in confusion. The sound was so unexpected, so joyous, that it sent a shiver down her spine. Trying to find the owner of this elusive voice, Annabel kept spinning around, her heart racing with curiosity and a hint of fear. "Is that the first thing that comes to mind?" Just as the laughter faded, a voice, which sounded like a familiar melody, floated down from above, wrapping around her like a warm embrace. But the moment her eyes fell upon the owner of that enchanting voice, her heart dropped, and her eyes widened in shock. She could hardly believe who she was seeing, fluttering there with a playful grin, as if they had stepped straight out of her memories. The air around her felt charged with an electric energy, igniting a whirlwind of emotions she thought she had buried long ago.
This had been because she had already seen them once before… or at least their portrait. The image was etched vividly in her memory, a striking depiction of a single woman whose beauty was truly beyond words. This enchanting figure had fair, porcelain-like skin that seemed to glow with an ethereal light, perfectly complementing her wavy, hip-length pink hair that cascaded down her back, split elegantly in the middle. Each strand appeared almost alive, catching the softest rays of sunlight and reflecting them in a mesmerising dance of colours.
Her large, light-yellow eyes, characteristic of the Dragonoirs, sparkled with an intriguing depth that seemed to hold secrets and stories untold, capturing the light in a way that made them appear almost luminescent. They were the kind of eyes that drew you in, inviting you to explore the mysteries within. Her curvy figure was accentuated by a simple yet elegant white dress that hugged her form in all the right places, flaring out gracefully at the hem. The fabric flowed around her like a gentle breeze, the white contrasting beautifully against her vibrant hair.
The wind generated by the pair of delicate pink bat-like wings extending from her back added an almost magical quality to her presence, causing the dress to sway and flutter as if it were a living part of her. It was a sight that was not only visually stunning but also evoked a sense of wonder, as though she had stepped out of a fairy tale, embodying both grace and strength, captivating anyone fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of her.
The woman standing before Annabel was none other than the Emperor's wife, the late Empress herself, whose presence radiated a regal aura that was both captivating and intimidating. She was also the mother of the child's body that Annabel had been possessing for the past few months, a connection that made this moment all the more surreal. As Annabel gazed into the eyes of the Empress, a flood of memories washed over her—memories that were not her own, yet felt deeply familiar. The late Empress looked at her with a mixture of warmth and sorrow, as if acknowledging the strange twist of fate that had intertwined their lives. "Hello, my dear daughter," she said, her voice a soothing melody that echoed through the air, sending a shiver of recognition down Annabel's spine. In that instant, the weight of the past pressed heavily upon her, and the reality of the Empress's presence began to sink in, leaving Annabel grappling with emotions she had yet to fully understand
