Chapter 68: Choice

The next morning arrived quickly, and Alex heard Bella getting up and starting to prepare for her trip to La Push.

[ Hey, I have to go now, see ya later, Alice! ]

[ Goodbye! ]

Closing his phone, which was connected to a charger, Alex sat up from his bed while he had texted all night.

'All right, Bella goes to La Push today, and Jacob tells her about the Cold Ones legend,' Alex thought as he nodded to himself and then sat there waiting.

Waiting.

'I have nothing to do,' Alex thought as he heard Bella go downstairs to eat breakfast. Mike even came to get he,r, and they started heading to the beach.

Alex was left in his room, and the only sound in his ears was Charlie's loud snoring, which he could hear quite clearly with his enhanced hearing.

'I wonder if I give a kid a pc and make them use inverted mouse controls until he's used to them and then take them back after years, will he then lose the ability to use a pc mouse forever?' Alex thought as he stared at the wall.

However, he shook his head a few moments later and got up from his seated position on the bed.

'I just had the best idea ever at least for the moment I think' Alex thought as he got dressed up quickly in his default black leather jacket and black jeans with a white shirt.

Quickly heading downstairs, Alex stopped at the living room table to leave a post-it note telling Charlie that he was going out.

Heading outside, Alex grabbed the old truck's keys and hopped into the driver's seat.

'All right, time to go money hunting,' Alex thought and drove out of the house and onto the road.

Driving towards Port Angels.

'Ok, so this thing isn't really going to hold the fuel that long so I'm just going to go there myself.' Alex thought as he drove the old truck.

Finally, after about ten minutes Alex found a clearing in the woods and drove the truck into it slowly and even had to go outside of it so he could lift the truck over some of the bumps so that it wouldn't get damaged.

'All right, time to see just how fast I can go to Port Angels.' Alex thought as a large grin took over his face.

'From what I know, I just need to follow this road, so I'll just run alongside it, and I'll be arriving at Port Angels soon. It should be about 40 miles away from here.' Alex thought and closed his eyes.

Quickly, his hair changed from black to silvery white, and claws started growing on his fingernails. His teeth extended, and his eyes turned feline.

Snapping his eyes open, Alex clenched his calves and then pushed forward with all his strength.

*BANG*

A loud sound was heard as everything that had been under his feet almost blew up instantly.

A normal human would have only seen Alex for a split moment, and then the explosion would have happened.

The longer he ran, the faster he got.

There, however, was a limit to his speed. It wasn't that he never got tired or that he couldn't theoretically go faster.

The problem was that the ground couldn't hold up if he pushed forward with even more strength.

'Damn, if I ran on asphalt, I would be able to go at much faster speeds, and I really shouldn't have worn shoes,' Alex thought as he stared at what had once been shoes. There was only a white ring of leather left at his ankle.

'I guess I'll just have to be gifted some shoes by some thieves in Portland' Alex thought as he nodded his head as if what he was thinking was totally acceptable and they would truly just gift him their shoes if he just asked nicely enough.

'Of course, if I just ask for them, they will offer them to me with a large smile on their face,' Alex thought as he ran.

It didn't take long, about ten to twelve minutes, to arrive at Port Angels.

Seeing the city in the distance, Alex slowed down considerably until he finally stopped in place.

Turning back to his human form, Alex's hair quickly turned back to its black color and so did his eyes.

The claws turned back into nails, and his teeth went back to their human-like shape.

'Now I just need to run like a human the rest of the way. From this distance, it should take me half an hour at most,' Alex thought and then started running at speeds a normal human would.

Half an hour later, Alex could be seen walking on the sidewalks of Port Angels.

'Now I just need to find the gathering spot of thieves.' Alex thought and started walking towards the center of the city.

Looking around, Alex found the city quite clean of the worst of humanity, but that could also be the case just because it was still the early hours of the morning.

Arriving at the central plaza of the city, Alex didn't head to its middle but headed directly towards one of the dark alleyways next to the plaza.

Quickly, Alex found what he was looking for, a drunk homeless man sleeping on the road.

'These guys should know almost everything that goes on around here' Alex thought to himself and then nodded and shook the man awake.

"Huh, what is it?" The homeless man said but could barely be understood by Alex with his slurred voice that sounded like he had drunk about an entire barrel of rum.

'Daze,' Alex thought as he looked the man in the eyes.

"Have you done anything wrong to anyone that involves heavy crimes?" Alex said as he stared at the man whose eyes had almost gone vacant under the effect of Daze.

"No, I have never done anything illegal or wrong," The man replied.

'Ah shit, wrong person. Thank god I thought to at least ask him.' Alex thought and then nodded his head, took off his leather jacket and about five bucks, which were quite a bit for the jobless him, and gave them to the homeless man.

"Here, take these. It's cold out here. By the way, do you know anywhere where the guys who do illegal shit gather? Any thieves and such?" Alex asked.

The man nodded his head as he pointed to an alleyway a few streets over.

"Over there at the end of that alley is an old restaurant that is mainly run by those guys." The homeless man slurred as he tried to hold his finger in place, pointing to the alley, though from all the shaking, it looked painful even to Alex.

Lowering the man's hand, Alex nodded and thanked him.

Starting to walk towards the Alleyway, Alex thought to himself.

'Just because you are homeless doesn't mean you're a bad person or that you have to become one. Killing innocent people, stealing, and being a bitch who harasses those around them is a choice, not something forced upon you. Though there are cases like that, those are the minority,' Alex thought as he walked towards the alley, his brows furrowed.

'I need a pair of shoes and a jacket as well as some money. And since the police aren't doing their own job, I'll just do it myself,' Alex thought as a slight smile took over his expression.
