Chapter 7: Mother's side of the family (II).
Francisca's POV
Three years have gone by… the only family I've gotten acquainted with was my mother's side. Mila Névé, the little sister of my adoptive mother Gabriella Névé.
I met my aunt the first time she came home announcing an unexpected visit telling my mother that she was pregnant bearing a child. The moment that was announced into the room, mother asked me to be alone with her and ordered me to tend into the garden with father instead.
I could remember the faint memory of my mother's cold voice asking Aunt Mila to tell her who the father was, but the problem was… she doesn't know and that was all the snippets of the conversation I've heard.
Aunt Mila towards me was a lovely person. She would often bring Glenn and I some sweets and fruits but I've visited her in the capital city being in charge of training the knights. I would have to say- she was a screaming banshee.
"WHAT ARE YOU?!"
"A SOLDIER MA'AM."
"THEN WHY AREN'T YOU GIVING ME ENOUGH SPIRIT YOU FUCKING DONU-!"
"Mila!"
We… also came as an unexpected visit so I got to hear her swearing for the first time. Mother's interference wasn't enough, even if she covered my ears it was all too late.
Thankfully by that time Glenn wasn't with us to pick up the phrase.
My days here have been quiet. Nothing of an adventure but I like it just the way it is, I'm even glad that it's like this.
"Oh~! Darling, can you help me bring some of the party streamers over here?" My mother would ask, pointing at the party streaming that was lying down on the table. "Mm I'll go get it for you."
I took off sprinting, handing her the streamer and she thanked me for it.
"Thank you, Francisca. You know I can't get any help from your father with this since he's busy cooking all the food that we'll serve for the party." she tells me with a sigh then gets back at her attention to the streamer, sticking it into the wall.
Today is Glenn's birthday.
This is his third birthday, that means there will be cake served at the party. I couldn't lie but I'm looking forward to it a little.
"Ngh! There we go all fixed." (Mom) wipes the sweat dripping down her forehead looking proud of her work, getting the party streamers all perfectly aligned.
I squinted at the party streamer having "Happy Birthday Gleen!" and I tilt my head pointing at it.
"Mom um… it has Glenn's name spelled wrong. It has a double e instead of a double n." I tell her and she panics not even noticing it because she was too proud having it symmetrically aligned.
"A-AH! No! Not after all that hard work!"
She sighs scratching her head before going down the ladder and tries making another set of letters for the n but I beat her too it stopping her. "Mom! Let me handle it!" I volunteered. Raising my hand a little, and she affectionately looks down at me.
She goes over to me and hugs me tightly in a squeeze.
"Ooh~! What did I ever do to deserve a daughter like you! Mwuah! Mwuah! Mwuah!" (Mom) proceeds to kiss me on different parts of my cheek before I move her face away.
"Mom… please behave yourself." I tell her, wiping the kisses she made on my cheek.
"Aw… okay since you're the one asking for it Mom will behave." she boops my nose before getting back onto taking down the streamer.
I went into the supplies pantry getting some art materials on making a similar copy of the letter. I can read, write and speak perfectly. They think that I'm a fast learner but I still remember all that I've learned back in my old life.
"Big Sister!"
Looks like I have company. It was little Glenn holding out his hand at me wanting whatever I was fiddling with.
"What's up buddy? Do you want to help?" I ask him while I cut the corner sides of the letter. I was just about to finish this anyway.
Glenn shakes his head taking the edge of my shirt.
"Aunt Mila and her family are just outside with you know who! Come and play with us please!!!" (Glenn) pulls my shirt over, and I hold my scissors up being careful to not hit him accidentally.
"Slow down!" I tell him, but he doesn't budge. He kept pulling my shirt asking so many times to play with him and Aunt Mila's daughter.
Audrey Névé, the daughter of Aunt Mila and someone I would have to babysit when I had the chance. Resulting for her to see me as some cool older sister figure and that was alright with me.
I would pat her head, sing her songs, and tell her stories I would think of or borrow them in my past life. She and Glenn have always had this- peculiar competition in trying to win my attention.
"Where's big sister Francisca?!"
Oh speak of the devil.
Audrey would yell before finally finding where we were.
Glenn grabs my arms protectively, knowing what will happen I put the scissors down and tucking in away the perfect copy of the letter before these two would destroy it in a fight.
"Audrey!"
She stood by the door and when I called her name she sprinted down to hug me in a tackle. "Omph!"
I was taken aback a bit but she was snuggling her face into my shirt before seeing Gleen glaring at her eyes. "Bleh! Not you! Move!"
Audrey sticks her tongue out as she takes hostage of my other arm. Thankfully it was a good decision to not get a hold of the scissor. "Welcome to our home. How long are you going to stay?" I asked her, trying to divert the attention away from Glenn.
"After the birthday we'll leave." (Audrey) she said with a sad look on her face.
It's best if we just spend some time together rather than think about how much time we have left. I pat Audrey's head and she takes it gratefully, giggling a little.
"Don't worry, why don't we spend some time together with the little birthday boy over here." I suggested, looking at Glenn who's face lights up with the mention of spending our time together. "And Audrey, it's his birthday today so I expect you to play nice."
I tell her and she grumbles a little complaint but she agrees in the end extending her hand in a little pinky promise pouting. "Okay… Audrey promises she will play nice with Glenn… no biting."
Hearing her words that she'll try to get along with my little brother made me happy and I take her pinky intertwining it with mine.
"That's what big sister really likes hearing." I told her, giving a pat again and Glenn sees me giving our little cousin another pat that he pulls my arm with a little bit of force.
He's not saying anything but… I think he wants a pat too…
"Ah… You too, play nice with Audrey. She's here to celebrate your birthday with you so I expect the both of you to play nice." I pat his fiery red hair and he smiles so widely, not looking so jealous anymore.
"Yay! Let's go play! " (Glenn) yells at the top of his lungs, Mom has heard it and immediately stops him for a moment.
"Ah! If you're playing, take Fenrir with you!" (Mom) raises her hand a bit to her chest and chants a single word. "[Summon]."
Poof!
"W-Woof…" (Fenrir) came out with a cloud of smoke looking tired. Mom covers her mouth forgetting that she and Fenrir just came out from a deadly mission that left Fenrir not able to be of service today. "W-Woof?"
"Ah! No Fenrir sorry! You can rest today… I supposed the guests can keep an eye on them instead." (Mom) tells her familiar before being sent back into the [Contract Realm]. It's a place where contracted beasts or animals they've made a pact with stays with their own space and room.
"Ah kids- be careful when playing outside- remember no talking to strangers and-"
Glenn and Audrey wouldn't even let her finish running out of the door.
"Hahaha! Tag! Tag!"
"Glenn it's your birthday so you're it!"
Mom's shoulders slumped looking ignored. "Hmph, they didn't even let me finish." she turned over to me and I held her hand in reassurance deciding I'll finish her sentence for her.
"Be careful when playing, don't talk to strangers and if you're in trouble quickly call an adult to help." I completed her sentence, her eyes widened. Dark blue eyes looking over to me with a bit of surprise before kneeling down to meet my level holding my shoulders gently.
"You… are so smart… I can't believe you're really my daughter haha! I hit the jackpot!" (Mom) tells me with a laugh and lets me run off to follow those two playing tag.
There were a lot of guests already in the outside area, so I saw those two deciding to go a little more deeper into the forest to play.
I talked to Audrey for a bit who was sitting on the edge of a tree while Glenn got tired of tag and just decided to play hide and seek. He was the seeker so we had some time before he could ever find us.
"Hey Audrey, where's Aunt Mila?"
"Probably with Aunt Gabby. " (Audrey) answers and I nod. I can't wait to see Aunt Mila again and get some sweet treats from her. The capital sweets were a bit better than the ones here.
A few minutes pass…
I wondered what's taking Glenn so long to find us, it was a little over ten minutes and we should've at least heard him walk around.
"Audrey, why do you think Glenn is taking so long finding us? It can't take him this long just to find us…" I stood up, deciding to look for him, knowing that he couldn't be far after all Mom forbid us getting too far away from the forest.
I held Audrey's hand not wanting to let her out of my sight.
"He's not here…"
"Where do you think he will go?"
Before Audrey could even speak it was only a moment too late before I realized she was suddenly dragged away by someone, her mouth being covered by the hand of a stranger. Their faces were covered in cloaks.
"Hey! Stop! Someone help-!" I screamed out loud but someone covered my mouth with their hand so I couldn't scream for help. "Grrr…"
I took a bite out of their hand and they screamed in pain cursing at me.
"Ow you little brat!"
Even with my bite he didn't let me go and kept his hand covering my mouth. I turned back to look at him and realized he raised his other hand to knock me out.
Smack!
