Dax glared at Dexter with his fingers tightly clenched. "Just you wait and see."
I stared at Dax in surprise.
Did I just detect fear in the eyes of someone so fierce? Was he afraid of Dexter?
I turned back to look at Dexter, surprised.
He was still giving Dax a hostile glare, and it wasn't until everyone had left that he slowly regained his composure.
"The sudden events in the Black family… It all happened too quickly," I whispered. " Dexter, are you sure you had nothing to do with this?"
Dexter didn't respond and simply continued to hold me tight.
"Sophia… I'm starving," he said hoarsely.
I couldn't discern if he was just pretending or genuinely unaware of what I'd said.
But regardless, he had stayed up all night without eating or sleeping, so he must have been hungry. So, I took him out for a meal and tucked him into bed afterward.
As I sat by the bedside, I gazed at Dexter's face for quite some time.
