Chapter 78: Chapter 77

"Wait… there are Japanese people down here?"

When Semery mentioned them, I thought their names sounded Japanese. Still, I thought they could have been from a country like the Saga Empire, influenced by the heroes they summoned.

"Yes, three people other than myself," Lord Ban nods. "Would you like to meet them?"

I pause. It does sound tempting, but…

"Yes, but I should get back to my friends first before they do something stupid,"

Satou would probably stop them, but I shouldn't leave them waiting for too long.

"I suppose it can't be helped,"

It turns out the exit to this place was closer than I thought. You could even see it from the entrance to Lord Ban's castle. Getting there from the castle was so easy that I probably didn't even need a guild, but Lord Ban still walked me there. The whole time during the short walk we swapped stories about Japan, comparing the differences between our own. From the sound of things, Lord Ban might be from the Great Island Empire Japan, like Aoi. Although he only mentioned a little about it, Aoi's stories he told me do match some of the events Lord Ban described.

By comparison, the versions of Japan Satou and I talk about sound unremarkable. Now that I think about I don't know much about the version of Japan Arisa is from. She usually only talks about it when she's drunk, and most of the time, Arisa just complains about being a spinster or mentions the stuff she wants to do with Satou.

It's a shame the last thing I see down here is a creepy sight. A hall lined with bones and a sinister gate with three still living heads serving as gatekeepers. The bones began clattering around us and took on human form, and semitransparent wraiths and wights appeared and circled around. I could do with fewer scenes from horror movies coming to haunt me, but it isn't the worst thing I've seen since waking up in this world.

"Greetings Lord Ban,"

One of the heads called out a greeting as the door swung open by itself. All at once, the skeletons, wraiths and wights bowed to their lord. After thanking them for their service, Lord Ban dismissed them and led me through the door.

"Will you be alright from her, Kura?"

"Yeah. Now that I am passed that barrier, I can teleport back to my camp and meet up with my friends from there,"

"Very well. I will let the gatekeeper know you are three to enter and leave as you please," Lord Ban says. It will be much appreciated if it keeps me from seeing those creepy skeletons. "Please come back to visit again. Next time, I will introduce you to Yoroi and Mukuro. Yuika may be a bit problematic at first, but she is a good lass."

"I look forward to it,"

Parting way with Lord Ban, I found a discrete place to set up a teleport point that should be hidden in the shadows of the nearby rocks and returned to our hideout. It would still take me some time to get back to the others, but it was the closest point I could teleport to.

I contacted Satou as soon as I left, and with his help, he guided me towards their position. It must be nice having a map with as much information as his. Mine only shows the layout of places I've been to.

<0>

"We're taking half a month off from exploring,"

Satou already told me he was travelling with Zarigon and company back to Labyrinth City, so it wasn't hard to find the group, although Satou's guildence did help. I rounded the corner to the group just as Zarigon told Satou about taking a break.

"I see. Yes, I'm sure you need some rest,"

"Hmph. But let me know if you need help. If any explorers give you trouble, I'll sort 'em out," Zarigon snorted and turned only to pause when he saw me. He chuckled and turned back to Satou. "I guess you were right when you told us not to worry about her."

He walked off back to his party after exchanging a greeting with me. But as soon as he was gone, I was surrounded by a sea of worried faces. Besides Satou, who knew I was fine thanks to his cheat map skill, it looked like everyone was worried sick. Mia and Sara probably would be the same if they were awake. Nana carries Mia like a princess, and Sara is on Liza's back.

"I should have known a cheat like you would be just fine after falling to the bottom of the labyrinth," Arisa says with a sigh of relief.

"Yes, we should have trusted our master more," Liza nods, and Pochi and Tama quickly imitate her.

"K…" Lulu looked like she wanted to say something but couldn't get the words out as she wiped away her tears.

Pearl and Nana are in a similar state. I think it was the first time I saw a tear leave Nana's eyes. Pearl may not be crying herself but her mouth is moving like she is trying to say something. I must have really worried them when I feel.

"I'm sorry to have worried all of you," I managed to say before Lulu ran up and wrapped her arms around me.

Lulu's actions swiftly cause the other to move until only Liza, Sara still on her back, and Satou aren't involved in the group hug. I hope Mia is okay. I'm pretty sure I still saw her in Nana's arms as she jumped into the middle of the hug.

"Hey, mister..." In the distance, the red-haired Neru gave us a cheerful wave, revealing a mischievous grin that showcased a sharp fang. Unlike earlier, the takoyaki stand now had a proper queue. "We're a huge hit, all 'cause of Miss Tama! We owe ya big-time!"

"Don't worry, be happyyy?" Tama fidgeted shyly at Neru's praise.

The newly painted sign, 'TWIRLING TAKOYAKI', created by Tama, exuded the same enchanting allure as the three previous signs, making it nearly impossible to walk by without purchasing.

"Sir Pendragon, are you teaming up with Sir Zarigon?" Luram, a regular customer at the food stalls, asked. He seemed unusually excited for some reason.

"...No. I wasn't particularly planning on it?"

"Awww, I see..." Luram seemed disheartened by Satou's response. Was this akin to wanting to befriend the companion of a well-known athlete? But he still managed to smile when he looked at me. "Hey, Miss Hero. Do you have any interesting new stories to tell?"

"Yes. At the next tea party, I will tell you all about how I ended up in a vampire village this time,"

"I can't wait to hear about it,"

It has become frequent for me to tell stories of my adventures at the viscount's wife's tea parties. Luram, along with his group of friends, have become frequent listeners. Sokell's lackeys who are still hanging around, have started suggesting I give up on being a hero and become a minstrel. You should have seen their faces when I jokingly took their suggestion seriously. You rarely see the stunned, speechless look on so many faces.

"Good-bye, for now, mister! We're gonna pay you back, I swear!"

Amid the line of the expedition's bag carriers, I heard the beastfolk kids call out as Luram ran off to visit another food stall.

"I'm looking forward to it," Satou replied, putting enormous grins on their faces.

"What do you think they're going to do now?" Arisa looked worried.

"The expedition party will probably break up, but they've got their bronze explorer badges now, so I suppose they'll keep exploring?"

"I hope they don't get taken advantage of by another jerk like Besso..."

Honestly, I suspected there were likely many others who could be misled similarly. Satou and I had previously suggested that they enrol in the rookie explorers' class. Still, that doesn't cover everything.

"Maybe I should suggest to the guild master that they start warning rookies about other explorers," I suggested as we walked back home.

"Yeah, that does seem like a good idea,"

<0>

"Welcome home, young master. Young miss,"

"Thank you, Miteruna," We greeted the staff and the head maid, Miss Miteruna, then followed her into the study. "Do you have any pressing news for us?"

"Yes," Even though Satou asked the question in a relaxed manner, she responded right away. "We had no less than three nighttime burglary attempts."

"Was anyone hurt?" I ask.

"No," I let out a sigh of relief at that and saw Satou doing the same.

"Sir Kajiro and Lady Ayaume apprehended them all,"

Those, too, are good guards, but I'm sure they will leave us soon. Once Kajiro has recovered, he will probably start exploring the labyrinth again with Ayaume. We could set up some golems to replace them but I would be worried that the golems would end up killing someone. Maybe after a bit more practice, I could make one that fits the job, but so far, all the golems I made could easily tear someone's arm off if they tried to restain them while not under my direct control.

"Miteruna, would you mind calling Mr. Kajiro and Miss Ayaume here for me?"

Oh. Satou is going to give it to them now, then.

"Of course, young master,"

As Miss Miteruna set out to locate the two samurai, Satou and I began reviewing the letters we had received during our time in the labyrinth.

Satou received a package from the Muno Barony. Upon opening it, he discovered letters from the baron, Viscount Nina, and several of the baron's daughters, including Karina and Soluna. The baron and Soluna provided updates on recent developments, while Miss Nina informed him about the progress of rebuilding the barony and expressed gratitude for the support they had received from the nobles of Ougoch Duchy. Additionally, she requested that Satou convince me to serve Baron Muno instead of Count Seiryuu.

Karina appeared rather inexperienced at writing letters; she relied on a template that Count Seiryuu's daughter, Henrietta, had shown me when I was made a knight. The letters mostly conveyed feelings such as "I wish to visit Labyrinth City" and "I want to taste Satou's cooking again." It's just so typical of Karina, I chuckled to myself.

We received a letter from Rayleigh, the viceroy's son, who was in the royal capital. In his message, he informed us that he had successfully sold all the Heaven's Teardrops and included a summary of the profits, which were quite remarkable. By now, Rayleigh had departed the royal capital and was expected to have reached the trading city of Tartumina.

We received letters from nobles of Labyrinth City, the Ougoch Duchy, and various other places, but none came from Seiryuu City. Given its distance, we can likely expect to wait a bit longer for any replies. Still, after reading through most of the letters I received, I am relieved that none of them are offers of marriage or requests for loans. Those things can get pretty annoying when people always ask for them.

"Sir Knight, Kajiro at your service,"

Knocking at the door, Mr. Kajiro and Miss Ayaume came inside.

"Miss Miteruna told me about your hard work,"

"Sake would make an excellent reward,"

"S-Sir Kajiro, don't be rude!" Ayaume grew flustered at Kajiro's blunt request, but Satou just smiled.

"Well, I did acquire some fine sake recently, so I'll share it with you later,"

As much as I wanted to remain, I had to take my leave. I could hear Mia and Sara leaping out of their beds from the room above. I needed to intervene before they dashed back into the labyrinth, so I excused myself and hurried up the stairs. They collided with me in their frantic search. It was truly a miracle that I didn't get knocked over by their enthusiasm.

"Kura…"

"I'm sorry… I-I didn't mean too…"

Crying, both Mia and Sara tightly hug me. I really did scare them with that fall.

"It's okay," I gently tell them, hugging them both. "I'm okay."

<0>

With his freshly healed leg, courtesy of the potion Satou gave him a few days ago, Kajiro started training in earnest alongside Ayaume to make up for lost time. Satou told me they both prostrated themselves and swore to serve him for the rest of their lives after he healed Kajiro. While I am glad we have reliable guards, as I watch the two of them train alongside Pearl and Liza, I fear they may be pushing themselves too hard.

"I'm gonna get ya!"

"Ah, sir,"

On the opposite side of the field, Pochi and Tama are playing some kind of tag game with the kids from the orphanage. I can't help but smile, too, when I see so many smiling faces. All the kids look so much better now than when we rounded them up off the streets.

As I step into the carriage, I can hear Mia playing a song somewhere nearby as Arisa sings some song from a popular anime I can remember seeing, even if her recounting of the story differs from mine. I let Lulu know I was ready to go and get our carriage moving.

The ride is surprisingly short. I had gotten used to the journies taking slightly longer. Still, I guess enough time had passed for the roads to have been repaired after the plunderers turned into demons and attacked the city. If Lulu hadn't have spoke up I wouldn't have even realised we arrived.

"Thank you, Lulu," I say, taking out a basket from storage and handing it to her.

There's not much in there. Just some snacks Lulu made to share with the servants of the house I kept from getting broken on the way here. Even though Lulu hasn't realised it she has become very popular in this city among the maids. I don't think I visited a noble house that doesn't have at least one maid Lulu has befriended.

Today, Lulu seems to be in a brighter mood than most. It might be because she is my ride to and from Baronet Dyukeli's home, but if I were to guess, my money would be on the fact she spent the morning baking treats with Satou. Either way, she has a bright smile as a maid she knows leads her away, and the head maid guides me to a parlour where Baronet Dyukeli is waiting for me.

After exchanging pleasantry and a bit of small talk, I got down to the real reason I paid him a visit. Thanks to Satou building it, I have something that could help the baronet's son. Even if it is slightly bigger than the ones I am used to back in Japan.

"Hmm. What a fascinating magic tool,"

I presented Baronet Dyukeli with the juicer Satou made after I explained the situation to him and explained how to use it.

"Simply lift the lid, add fruits and vegetables based on the recipes, close it back up, and feed it some magic," The maid timidly followed my instructions. But I realised I made a mistake. "Wait. I forgot to mention about the noise and vibration. It's nothing to worry about."

Luckily, the nervous maid didn't make a mess. I felt she would throw the juicer of knock to the floor if I hadn't warned her about it. Instead, the maid may have jumped at the noise, but she made a drink and served Baronet Dyukeli and me a glass. It's slightly sweeter then I am used to but still taste good.

"Intriguing. It looks somewhat like a thick soup," Baronet Dyukeli said upon sipping it himself after the maid poison-tested the juice. "It's tastier than I expected. The sweetness of the fruit hides the bitterness of the vegetables."

"Absolutely, that's one of the advantages of vegetable juice—especially when mixed with fruit juice. Do you think your son would be open to trying it?"

"Yes, I'm sure he will,"

To be on the safe side, I provided him with some recipes that included tips for incorporating honey or sugar and variations using different types of fruit.

"But will preparing them so violently not destroy the vitamin spirits?"

"There's no need to be concerned. The magic tool is inscribed with a rune that ensures it won't cause any harm to the vitamin spirits,"

I eased the baronet's concerns about his imaginary troubles. I had overlooked that he believed vitamins were benevolent spirits residing in vegetables and the entrails of livestock.

"Very well, then. I shall have this juice prepared for my son starting with tonight's dinner,"

Baronet Dyukeli nodded in approval, a look of satisfaction on his face...Ah, yes. I still had one more matter to address.

"Your Excellency, may I request that this potion and parchment be analysed?"

"Analysed, you say?"

The baronet summoned his servant with a wary expression, who possessed the "Analyse Goods" skill.

"...I can't believe it,"

"Don't beat around the bush. What are the results?"

"Th-this is a genuine veria potion. It appears to be around the same level of effectiveness as a lesser health recovery potion,"

I was amazed by his "Analyse Goods" skill, which could evaluate the potion type and its effectiveness.

"Veria potion? And the paper?"

"This is the recipe for veria potion,"

"What?!" Baronet Dyukeli grabbed the recipe from the table. "Th-this is the recipe...?"

"I spoke with the Sage's daughter, and she found it in an alchemy lab the Sage used in Bolenan Forest. I suspect this is probably a piece of the recipe. As someone who dabbles in alchemy, I recognise that these instructions seem to serve as an introduction and a list of essential ingredients. The actual recipe might be found on a different fragment,"

I provided the bewildered baronet with the response I had prepared. Satou intended to conceal the remaining pieces of the recipe in treasure chests located in some of the more accessible sections of the labyrinth, along with a finished veria potion, allowing young adventurers to search for them like treasure hunters. Satou hoped that some greedy mid-level explorers would get so caught up in treasure hunting that they'd pioneer new hunting grounds, too.

The recipe was broken into eight parts. But Satou made plenty of copies of each of those parts. I believe he said he would make and hide a lot of copies of five of the sections and fewer copies of the final three.

"Lady Kura, you're giving this to me-that is, to the alchemists' guild?"

"That's exactly why I brought it here. If we can successfully complete this recipe, I'm hopeful that the price of magic potions in Labyrinth City will drop and the conflict between the explorers and the alchemists' guild will be settled,"

Before he could propose a price, I clarified my reasons for bringing it to the baronet instead of the explorers' guild.

"Grrr... Very well. I swear upon the great ancestral king Yamato and the Dyukeli family name that I shall do as you ask,"

After crossing his arms and grumbling, Baronet Dyukeli agreed to comply. This decision would make the much sought-after lesser health recovery potions more readily available at an affordable price. It should ease the explorers' frustrations and improve their chances of survival in the labyrinth.

Hopefully, that would lead to the explorers ceasing their disdain for Miss Mary-Ann, the daughter of Baronet Dyukeli. After all, she aspired to become an explorer herself one day. As I prepared to leave, Mary-Ann watched me with a pleading expression, but I chose to overlook it, not wanting to provoke the baronet's wrath by taking her into the labyrinth with me. Caring for her was a task more fitting for the viceroy's third son, Gerits, who clearly had a crush on her.

<0>

"Is this about your previous request, Miss Hero? Just a moment, please,"

While heading back from Baronet Dyukeli's residence, I decided to make a quick stop at the west guild to check on the progress of my scroll-collecting request. The receptionist reviewed a list before retrieving a small box from the back of the room.

"We've received these three so far. Your initial deposit covered the reward for them, so there is no need for any further payment. Here are the details and your receipt."

With a swift and clear explanation, the receptionist retrieved the scrolls from the box. There were three scrolls: Sand Control, Desert Mirage, and Acceleration Gate. The first two originated from the Sandstorm Labyrinth, similar to spells like Stone Object and Create Earth Servant. Sand Control performed exactly as its name suggested. Still, I struggled to find any information about Desert Mirage in my spell books. I speculated that it might conjure sudden mirages. However, besides potentially disorienting travellers in a desert, I couldn't think of any practical use for it. However, I suppose it's normal to encounter an occasional useless spell. On the other hand, the Acceleration Gate spell was said to be discovered in a place called the Wilde Labyrinth.

"There were seven other submissions, but..." The receptionist explained that three of these were just standard market scrolls dressed up to look special, and the other four were fake scrolls. "We've already disposed of them-don't worry." I thanked the receptionist and asked her to keep collecting scrolls. "Yes, of course. However, scrolls are found rather infrequently, so please do understand."

She mentioned that these three pieces likely originated from an individual's private collection. I was eager to ensure my request remained ongoing. If others realised they could earn a profit, I could potentially receive submissions from nearby towns or even the royal capital. After expressing my gratitude to the worker, I exited the guild. Or I was about to when Lulu grabbed my arm.

"Kura, Satou and Arisa have just entered with some of the children from the orphanage,"

I followed where Lulu was pointing and saw Arisa and Satou amongst the crowd with a few kids with them. I saw Liza behind them, too, and Mia must have come with them because when I felt someone wrap their arms around my waist, I looked down to find her.

"What's going on?"

"Explorers," Mia said.

"Explorers?"

I thought I had gotten good enough at understanding Mia's short answers, but I couldn't figure out what she meant by that. It doesn't look like any of the explorers have been bullying the kids, so maybe they have been trying to recruit them.

"Kids. Explorers,"

"Do some of the kids want to be explorers?"

"Mmm,"

I'm glad I got it right. I wish Mia would give some more details, but usually, when she does, it means something got her scared, so maybe it is for the best.

"Some of the orphanage kids want to become explorers, so we came to ask if there's any kind of school for that," Arisa said as the group approached us. "Since the kingdom collects cores from the labyrinth, that seems reasonable. I thought there might be some kind of training program, but..."

There is only the rookie explorers' class for new bronze-badge explorers; explorer parties take on apprentices or students to do errands while learning the job, but there isn't nothing like a school. That was what the guildmaster's secretary, Miss Ushana, told them when they asked her. The closest thing to an explorer's school is the dojos and private schools that teach combat techniques. Some dojos specifically taught self-defence to women since the city was full of rough-and-tumble explorers.

"Would we be able to make something like that ourselves?" Arisa asked.

"As long as you get permission from the viceroy to open a school, I imagine it wouldn't be a problem. There are no restrictions about it in the guild rules," Ushana answered.

If we could locate a few instructors, all we would need to do is seek permission from the viceroy's wife, and this plan could likely succeed. Given that this involves the children from the orphanage, we would simply need to hire a teacher to visit the orphanage occasionally.

"Please! Just give us three more days!"

"I swear we'll pay up!"

And it looks like we just found our teachers. I caught a familiar exchange coming from the reception desk on the first floor. As expected, the Lovely Wings duo again negotiated with a guild staff member. This time, though, the conversation sounded more desperate.

"I told you last time you were late on a payment, didn't I? I said that if it happened again, you'd become slaves,"

This world can be rough. I really thought they could pay back the money when I covered for them the last time this happened. However, that clarified why they had wept tears of gratitude when I came to their rescue the last time this happened.

"Th-then enslave me, and we'll pay Jena's part of the fee,"

"W-wait a minute, Iruna! What are you saying?! Don't you dare try to sacrifice yourself for me!"

"Those two will be good as instructors," I told the group before walking over to them.

I couldn't just ignore their predicament.

"Hello again, Iruna, Jena,"

"H-hero,"

The two gazed at me with tears in their eyes as if I were their long-awaited rescuer.

"May I inquire about the full amount of their debt?"

"Eight gold coins and four silver coins,"

"Then allow me to settle the entire amount, please,"

Given how poorly these two managed to make money, they were likely heading toward servitude before long, so I cleared their entire debt immediately.

"H-hey, we can't let you go that far for us..."

"Y-yeah! If you could lend us the interest, that would be more than…"

"I can't promise I'll be there to rescue you a third time. Do you get that?"

The two of them attempted to argue, but when I highlighted the reality of the situation, they fell silent, tears in their eyes. Even they couldn't refute the truth. So, I handed the clerk nine gold coins and took my change in silver.

"Thank you so much! We'll… We'll repay you with our bodies!"

"Oh? I think I'll take you up on that!"

"Mrrr, guilty!"

Given the absurdity of their offer, I accepted it with a cheerful grin. The Lovely Wings duo blushed a deep shade of red and became visibly flustered as Mia got between us.

"I-I… I was just joking, but if you want us to…"

I had to cut Iruna off right there.

"I'm sorry," I said, revealing my true intentions. "I just wanted to have a bit of fun with you. We have some kids at our orphanage who dream of becoming explorers, and I'm hoping to find someone who could teach them. Would you two be willing to take on that role?"

"Y-yes, of course! If you'll have us!"

"We'll teach the crap outta those kids!"

Jena and Iruna quickly accepted my request. With their experience from the rookie explorers' class, they were both kind-hearted young women who would make ideal instructors for the orphans. If I find the time in the future, I might consider starting a course for kids interested in becoming explorers. This could help decrease the number of impressionable children, like those beastfolk kids, who are exploited by people like Besso.

While I don't want to get too ahead of myself, if there's sufficient interest and we can bring in more teachers, I'd be open to launching a full explorer training school, as Arisa suggested. If we establish it as a legitimate school, we could even provide lessons for noble children dreaming of becoming explorers, such as Baronet Dyukeli's daughter, Mary-Ann and the viceroy's third son, Gerits.

"During your teaching sessions, you are welcome to utilise an empty room in the servants' quarters,"

They resided in the downtown area close to the barricade walls, likely making their commutes quite challenging. As a result, I thought it would be a good idea to provide some employee benefits. But some people didn't see it that way…

"Man, that kid really knows how to rope in mistresses,"

"The crazy thing is, she doesn't seem to have any ulterior motives,"

"I bet some country girls would fall for that in a second,"

My "Keen Hearing" skill detected some disrespectful remarks from the explorers surrounding us. The girls appeared oblivious to the comments, but I didn't want any strange rumours about them to circulate. I moved to address the situation, but by that point, the gossip had already dissipated. After all, there was now far more captivating news at hand.

"Veria potions, you say?!"

"Yes, that's right! We found it in a treasure chest in the labyrinth! There's even a piece of the recipe!"

The first voice came from a clerk, while the next was Miss Sumina, speaking loudly. Satou must already be moving forward with his plan.

"Did they say 'veria potions'?"

"What is this, another scam?"

None of the explorers appeared convinced, yet I could sense that, beneath the surface, they longed for it to be true.

"No, it's the real thing! Look, just analyse it!"

"I-it's true! We've got to report this to the guild- master! Sumina, come with me to her office right away,"

"No problem! What'd I tell you? It's a real veria potion!"

Once the word had spread, Sumina followed the clerk to the guildmaster's office.

"S-so it's true?"

"That clerk has the 'Analyse' skill. It's gotta be for real,"

"Damn! So we'll be able to get cheap potions?"

"Of course! There's more veria outside the city than you could ever cut down!"

"And even if you did, they grow back in half a month as long as you leave the roots,"

The explorers buzzed with excitement as they conversed among themselves, including the Lovely Wings duo. Suddenly, another shocking piece of information emerged. This time, it came from a different group of girls from the tenements who had arrived independently of Sumina.

"Didn't she say she found a recipe fragment, too?"

"I wonder if there are others?"

"She said she found it in the labyrinth!"

"We'd better search all the labyrinths in the recipes for treasure chests, then,"

Several of the girls definitely needed to improve their acting skills. The last one, in particular, completely botched her line, making it almost impossible to understand. Nevertheless, the explorers appeared to grasp the main idea. Those who caught the conversation and understood it dashed off in a frenzy, likely heading directly to the labyrinth in search of recipe fragments.

"Is this your doing, master?"

"That's a secret,"

Satou and Arisa whispered behind me as I went over some details with the Lovely Wings pair. Later, while I was introducing the Lovely Wings to Miss Miteruna, Satou snuck off to hide the veria potions and recipe fragments in some treasure chests.

"We've got to have a welcome party tonight!"

"Mm. Celebrate,"

"I shall go hunt for meat in the labyrinth, then,"

After Satou intervened to calm Liza's enthusiasm, we returned to the house to show the two of them their new workplace. That evening, the abundant spread of meat and vegetables brought smiles to both the children and the Lovely Wings duo. There's nothing quite like delicious food to lift everyone's spirits.
