Chapter 28: Inferiority Complex

Lawrence seriously wondered whether or not Agatha was waiting on purpose.

Like was she waiting for that perfect time to give her an excuse to go full-on rampage against him.

Didn't he inform her that he was going to cure her mother?

She can't be that oblivious, right?

"Before you want to strike at me because you saw your mother puking blood, you should first understand the situation first." Lawrence calmly said.

"To strike someone without understanding the situation is a foolish move and a one-way ticket to defeat. Know yourself, but more importantly, you must know your enemy, so that you can be prepared for any actions from them." He added, giving her crucial advice.

His tone was also solemn, proving that he wanted Agatha to listen to his advice and imprint it in her mind.

Lawrence's years of expertise in being a commander had honed his mind and strategic deployment. Henceforth, he had never once done something with uncertainty.

He might seem frivolous on the surface, or even have a tendency to aggression, especially when he was dealing with the parasite, but all of that was merely an act.

It was a habitat behavior development in the past when he kept pretending to be weak to deceive his enemies.

Meanwhile, Agatha seemed to have controlled her emotions as she glanced closely at her mother.

Sure enough, after the vomiting of blood, Agatha realized her mother's facial complexion seemed to have turned for the better.

However, the decisive factor wasn't any of that, but when she managed to hear her talk after who knows how long.

"A-A-Agatha…" Agatha's mother spoke weakly and softly.

"Mother!" Not caring about anything else anymore, Agatha rushed forward, even pushing Lawrence to the sideline as if he were some side character.

Her hands extended as she wrapped her arms around her, "You can talk!"

The two were smiling blissfully, and Lawrence calmly stood up after being shoved aside and fixed the collar of his uniform with one hand. As for his other hand, mana was still circulating as he contained the parasite, preventing it from dying or running away.

Having seen a glimpse of the parasite's appearance, Lawrence was positive that he had seen this type of parasite before. And one main characteristic of it was that it would soon die upon exiting the host's body unless it could latch onto another host within a certain time frame.

With the mana shrouding the parasite, Lawrence cleverly stuffed it in the now-empty glass container.

'I have to thank that Old Fool for using such a high-grade container despite being so shabby-looking.' Lawrence exclaimed inwardly.

Storing the glass container back into his pocket, Lawrence saw the mother and daughter were immersed in their own world.

Realizing he was just a third party here, Lawrence didn't intend to disturb their moment. It must have been a difficult period for Agatha to have to withstand all these turbulences, especially when he was such a bastard.

Slowly exiting the house, Lawrence murmured, "Sigh, this redemption is probably never going to happen. Just why are you so disgusting, Lawrence?"

He might have assisted Agatha in constructing her mana core, but that was far from enough to repay the debt he owed her. In fact, there was nothing that he could do to repay the pain he had given her. All he could do was little things like this to make himself feel a bit better, but only for a bit.

Unwilling to intrude in Agatha's life further, Lawrence took a leap and landed on the rooftop.

At the same time, he made sure to retract the mana that he had scattered around to prevent anyone from disturbing them earlier.

His breathing became slightly weak as well for overusing his mana and straining his body. He might be able to control and manipulate his mana with such ease, but his body was far from adequate to withstand such a long duration.

Nevertheless, it was worth the effort and Lawrence would do it again without hesitation.

"The other three women aren't in Valeria City, so I can only send someone to investigate their whereabouts." Lawrence was somewhat bitter about not being able to assist the other women he had harmed.

And not only that, Lawrence must ensure their safety is guaranteed and that they won't be disturbed.

The pathetic Cedric's appearance and the parasite made him realize there might be more hidden secrets than the eyes meet. He wanted to figure them out but also knew his limitations.

The current him was just an infant in the eyes of an adult, and so his authority and commands are limited as well.

Even his closest maid was hiding secrets from him, so just who could he trust exactly?

'Had I known there's so much complication coming back, then I would have rather remained dead in the demon beasts' rampage.' Lawrence felt a migraine in his head, having realized there were just too many lists to do on the agenda.

It was as if there were constantly a wave of new assignments that he must do before the due date, and failing them would result in deadly consequences.

"Fuck it, screw those assignments for now!" Lawrence cursed. "I'll just buy some high-quality booze for the Old Fool and have some drinks."

With that in mind, Lawrence subsequently exited the area, and a shadow figure appeared in the corner.

"The noble has left, I guess it's time to make a move then." The shadow figure mumbled, believing Lawrence had finally exited the vicinity.

And just when the shadow figure was about to make a move, he was instantly startled by a sound from behind.

"Oh, which noble has left? Do you mind telling me?"

Startled and alarmed, the shadow figure didn't hesitate to circulate some mana and struck behind him.

Alas, the person behind him had expected an attack and easily dodged it.

"I knew you were a rude person already, so why bother attacking?" Lawrence stood at the top of the rooftop and chuckled.

"Or are you the type to have an inferiority complex, so you must use a cloak to cover your appearance as well?"

Author's Thought (I've decided to add it here at the end of chapter now. Since I'm going to be accused of padding word count anyway, then I might as well write it here and trick you~)

Lawrence: Peek-A-Boo~ I bet that shadowy figure got scared by me. Not even Michael Myers could achieve such feat, or maybe he could. Anyway, Happy Halloween, and may you have tons of candies or maybe not. I don't eat candies, but I do like gifts. So Trick or Treat, please give me some gifts. If you trick me, then I'll pay back twice fold for the grudge, so beware of your choices~
