Chapter 41: There is a problem

Gabriel furrowed his brow, following Eveline's lead, and inquired, "I had no idea she thought that way."

"Of course, how would you know because you hardly pay attention to anyone," Eveline teased him with a humorless chuckle.

His ego was constantly being jabbed by Eveline's remarks, which made him realize how naive he had been the entire time to notice such a thing going on in regard to him.

"No, that is untrue. I do pay attention," he said, causing Eveline to stop and turn to look at him.

"And whom do you pay attention to?" she asked, keeping her hands on her waist.

Realizing that he had nearly run into Eveline, Gabriel gagged and took a deep breath before backing away.

This closeness with Eveline was doing something to him, but he was too good at concealing it behind his blank face.

Gabriel looked up at Eveline, taking a moment to gather his racing heart, and said, "You. You are the one I am focusing on."
