CH: 5 SAT Over and First Company

7 Days Later

'Devotion of Suspect X' heat continues to ferment as ones outside of America the book created howling winds that soon turned into a Hurricane that swapped all over Western countries. The sales went like a bat out of hell with many people finding the book as a great time passion in less entertaining times. Now the total sales of the book is over 1.5 million copies. And soon it will reach over 3 million. Which was an astronomical number for a newbie author. Henry has received a total amount of $2700,000 and that figure is still increasing by every hour.

After handing over his new book to Margaret, one that he tirelessly penned over five continuous days, Henry awaited her response with bated breath. Margaret, deeply impressed by the work, wasted no time and immediately approached John & Son Publishing Company.

Two days later, Margaret hurried to Henry with exciting news, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Honey, they've agreed to the deal you presented to them. After reading your book, they've decided to publish it, recognizing that 'The Fellowship of the Ring' holds more potential than your previous work. They've also accepted your demands, including filing for copyright for all the characters and special monsters under the name of 'Wizards of Cost'. It's a bit shady, It will be a little shady but for money, even laws can be trampled. However, you'll be the one footing the bill for it. And regarding your second demand, they mentioned they were planning something similar, but if all copies don't sell, you'll be responsible for the costs."

Margaret explained the royalty agreement negotiated with John & Son. "The royalty rate is set at 45%, the maximum you can get. If you want more, you'll have to open a publishing house yourself."

Henry felt satisfied, understanding his mother's point about maximizing royalties by starting his own publishing venture. "So, when will my book get published?" he inquired, mindful of the upcoming SAT preparation.

"It'll be released one month from now," Margaret replied. "They want to leverage the momentum from 'Devotion of Suspect X' and have planned better publicity this time. Following your demand, they'll start creating copies after tomorrow, producing an extra 2 million copies in their most trusted and secure publishing houses. They'll release them simultaneously, aiming for miracle sales."

With the copyrights settled, Henry felt a great weight lifted from his shoulders. Copyrights had been the primary reason he had been hesitant to publish fantasy books, but with 'Da Vinci Code' no longer in his immediate plans, he decided to move forward with 'The Fellowship of the Ring.' Determined to take control of his own publishing destiny, Henry approached his father and proposed the creation of a small company. With his father's connections and a lot of paperwork, they established 'Wizards of Cost'.

Despite his father's efforts, creating the company was not without its expenses. The process involved various paperwork and filings, including a "Doing Business As" (DBA) registration, which cost them a significant sum of $30,000. However, they managed to keep costs lower by avoiding the need for licenses or permits.

But receiving his second pay all pain of spending money disappears.

'Whether I wanted it or not, 'Wizards of Cost' ended up being my first venture into company ownership,' Henry reflected with a wistful sigh, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of life's twists and turns.

Henry knows if 'The Fellowship of the Ring' borrows the momentum of 'Devotion of Suspect X' and better publicity, it can get an unexpected result. And he is not anxious to get the book published as his plan will be started when he is at Harvard University.

Henry then prepared to study as he never took the SAT in his past life as he directly entered MIT under the guidance of the US government. So he didn't want to mess up the test as this is related to his plan later.

---

2 days later.

Henry finally finishes the SAT. He didn't expect the SAT to be very easy as it just takes 2 hours to finish the test. It took that long because It's not a test that you take everything together. It is split into sections and you have to sit till everything is over.

Henry, not one to boast, couldn't help but recognize the potential within himself. Comparing his present self to great figures like Einstein, Tesla, and Hawking, he acknowledged the myriad of revolutionary ideas, technologies, and formulas swirling within his mind. While incomplete, these concepts had the power to reshape the world forever. He didn't need to speculate why the mysterious transmigration effect hadn't removed these formulas from his mind; all that mattered was that it hadn't, and he intended to make the most of it.

Henry walks away from the school in a fresh mood as he is 100% sure his test can get more than a perfect score. He then takes his car to the parking lot as now he plans to buy something.

The time now is April 4, 1973, and yesterday something shocking happened at a press conference in New York City. They presented a prototype DynaTAC to make sure that it worked before the press conference, he placed the first public cell phone call, to engineer Joel Engel, head of AT&T's rival project, and gloated that he was calling from a portable cellular phone.

The revelation of Motorola caused a frenzy in the world as this is truly a shocking invention. But unfortunately, the phone is still in the laboratory prototype stage and can't widely be commercialized, so its price is very expensive.

A single phone costs $10,000 and it can only be used for 30 minutes of talk before its battery runs out. It weighs 2 pounds and can be called 'Brick', but this did not hinder the enthusiasm of people. The high cost of $10,000 means that only a slightly wealthy middle-class family could afford it now. The phone was widely commercialized later in 1984 at the price of $4,000 and that too with the dollar depreciated.

Originally Henry wanted to buy the phone yesterday, but as he is studying for the SAT so he cancelled the idea of buying it yesterday and now is the same. As he arrived at the Motorola store, he saw many people queue. This is understandable as this is the first-ever mobile phone released, and even though the price is expensive it can't block the wealthy.

He decided to invest in purchasing it, not just for the sake of owning it, but also to preserve it as a testament to history.

Henry waited for 1 hour before finally getting the phone. It was indeed appropriate to call it 'Brick' as this is indeed heavy! Henry came in 2030, so at first, he was troubled by how to use it as he got used to using a Smartphone. But after learning it for a while, he knows how to use it.

Henry drives his car to a public library as he wants to better understand this era. Lately, Henry often went to the library as he wanted to know if anything different from what he knows as transmigrating is too mysterious. He wants to make sure it is the same so he can't be caught off guard so he better be prepared.

---

Henry went home after many hours of reading in the library; he finally confirmed that no changes were made in ancient history or anything else. Even though later he might change history through his actions, at least for now, his actions are too small to alter the course of history.

When it comes to publishing a book, Henry believes it's nothing compared to what he might do later, as this action is small and has no substantial impact on changing the general direction. Maybe it will just cause a small ripple in the literary circle due to the book being published in advance.

Henry went to the dining room as it was time for dinner. He saw his mom cooking, and his gaze warmed. Henry always longs for dinner at home as he can get close to his mom, especially since he doesn't know who his parents will be in the future. His dad always works overnight, so he rarely sees his father during dinner; he usually just sees him at breakfast.

But he knows his dad always loves him, as he always supports him through any decision. Henry swears to always make his parents happy and provide them with a luxurious life. Henry knows both of his parents are now in their mid-40s, so he wants to ensure their happiness for the rest of their lives.

As Henry ponders this, Margaret brings dinner to the table. Margaret notices her son deep in thought and worriedly asks, "Is everything fine, honey? How was your test?" She wonders if her son is thinking about the SAT.

"Nothing, Mom, I'm just thinking about something," Henry waves his hand dismissively as he answers.

"Alright then, let's eat before it starts to cool," Margaret exhales with relief.

Then, a pair of mother and son enjoy their dinner in a warm atmosphere.
