Chapter 101: Top-Tier Aristocracy

Leo responded with a rare gentleness, "It's chilly outside. Let's talk inside."

"Okay, okay, okay." Aaron replied happily.

Christian's gaze lingered on Saira, noting her expressions and the look in her eyes. His admiration for Leo began to wane.

Azura and Zuri led the way, with Leo following closely behind them, almost like their personal bodyguards.

As they entered the venue, the elder Ling family patriarch approached to greet them. During their exchange, the younger generation made their introductions and then dispersed on their own.

The adults had their own social circles, and the younger generation had theirs.

Farida arrived with her relatives and sisters, "You finally made it. I was about to be bored out of my mind."

"Farida, aren't you going to introduce us?" a sweet young girl in a pale yellow gown asked.

"This is Azura, and this is Zuri. They're both good friends of mine," Farida said, turning to Zuri, "These are my cousins."

Farida's cousins were displeased with her lackluster introduction but kept their grievances to themselves in front of Azura and Zuri.

In a corner, Rhea stood alone, her eyes fixed on Zuri. As she watched Zuri enter, dazzling and radiant under everyone's attention, jealousy surged within her. Just a few months ago, they had been on the same level, but now they seemed worlds apart.

Zuri was fortunate to have a wealthy father. Seeing her and her entourage chatting and being flattered by everyone around, Rhea couldn't help but feel a pang of envy.

Rhea scanned the room. Everyone here was wealthy and influential, but the men were either middle-aged and rotund or elderly. The few young men who looked decent were surrounded by beautiful women.

Among these men, only Leo stood out, his appearance, physique, and background impeccable. Rhea's gaze was fixed on Leo, her admiration for him growing stronger.

"Stop staring. No matter how much you look, he can never be yours."

Lila approached Rhea again, having been shunned by others due to her low status. She sought out Rhea to regain a sense of superiority.

"Do you know who he is? He's Leo, a member of the Ye family from the capital. Every high society family in Oceanic City wants to marry their daughters off to him, but unfortunately, they don't have the status to get into the Ye family."

Lila's gaze shifted away from Leo to scrutinize Rhea, "Do you really think you have the qualification to enter the Ye family's door? Even I don't dare to dream about it. Don't be a toad lusting after swan meat."

"So, that means Zuri's status isn't high enough to enter the Ye family either?" Rhea asked.

"Of course," Lila answered without hesitation, "Zuri's status is only good enough for the Ling family or the Huang family at most. Not all aristocratic families are created equal. At the top of the hierarchy are the top-tier aristocratic families, and above them are the eight great families of the capital. That's the pinnacle."

"The Leo you see is at the very top of that pinnacle," Lila added, seeming in a good mood as she explained the basics of high society to Rhea.

"You're here to find a man, aren't you?" Lila said bluntly, exposing Rhea's intentions.

Rhea's face flushed red, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't be embarrassed. Women like you are a dime a dozen. There are quite a few like you at this event. For example, the woman in the purple low-cut evening gown ahead and the one in the black backless gown to the left. They're just like you."

"These people try every means to get into high-end events like this, and then look for targets to approach. If someone shows interest in them and they're willing, it's only natural that they get what they want."

Rhea had never heard such a candid discussion before and was both embarrassed and flushed.

"You don't need to be shy. These women have goals, do their homework in advance, but even so, they might not find a strong backer after one event."

Rhea started to feel anxious. She only had this one opportunity and couldn't count on Zuri to help her unconditionally again.

"Do you have a target?" Lila asked.

Rhea shook her head.

"Then you're at a disadvantage. Searching blindly is just a waste of time," Lila tempted.

Rhea was flustered, unsure of what to do. She didn't know anyone here and didn't know how to approach them.

Lila continued to entice her, "If you help me with a small task, I can help you screen them. I know what kinds of women they like, which ones are easy to hook, and which men are fickle."

"What kind of task?" Rhea asked warily.

"Don't worry, it's a simple task. See the woman in the red evening gown to the left? Just pour this cup of juice on her. It's really that simple," Lila coaxed.

"What if she demands compensation from me?"

"Ha-ha," Lila laughed, "At an event like this, no one will make a fuss over a piece of clothing."

"Is it really that simple?" Rhea was skeptical of Lila's apparent good intentions.

Lila rolled her eyes, "Believe it or not. If you don't, then just forget it."

With that, she stood up, ready to leave.

Rhea quickly stopped her, "I—I didn't say I wouldn't do it."

"Then do it properly. Be decisive," Lila complained, but a hint of satisfaction flickered in her eyes.

While they were plotting, a man in his forties, looking ordinary but with an air of scholarly grace, joined the woman in the red gown.

The woman's body trembled slightly as the man approached. He wrapped his arm around her waist and moved towards Leo.

Leo, having freed himself from the crowd of big shots, scanned the room and quickly spotted the distinctive figure.

He walked towards her.

"This one is delicious," Azura said, placing a small cake on Zuri's plate.

Zuri took a bite and nodded, "It's good."

Leo watched as Zuri's cheeks puffed out with each bite, looking like a small hamster eating. It struck him as oddly endearing.

His deep, dark eyes held a tender light.

Suddenly, a new pastry appeared on Zuri's plate.

Zuri looked up and met Leo's gaze.

"This one should be good too. Try it."

Zuri tasted it and nodded in approval.

Seeing that she liked it, Leo eagerly selected another treat and placed it on her plate, "This one isn't greasy, low in fat, and has a good texture. Give it a try."

Chapter 102: The Perverse Man

Azura watched silently as her uncle fussed over Zuri, feeling a pang of jealousy.

Why was her uncle so biased?

Did he only have eyes for Zuri and completely ignore his beautiful, gentle, and kind niece?

"Cough, cough."

Azura cleared her throat twice, trying to get his attention.

However, her uncle seemed to be completely oblivious to the surroundings, still happily feeding his little hamster.

This is outrageous!

How could her uncle be so dismissive of her existence?

Azura wanted to make her presence known and say something, but just then, a cold gaze swept over her.

Never mind, she decided to quietly eat her own food.

Cowardly little Azura retreated to Farida's side, silently shedding tears of frustration.

Azura got the hint, but an oblivious Miles arrived.

"Miles, good to see you," he greeted, approaching with his companion.

Miles's gaze lingered momentarily on Zuri, and he was briefly captivated by her beauty.

Such a pretty young girl! In a couple of years, once she fully matures, she'll definitely be a stunning beauty.

Miles was intrigued but hesitant. It was clear that this little beauty was someone Leo had his eye on.

Leo's mood soured when his feeding session was interrupted. His eyes turned sharp as he looked at Miles. Suddenly, he sensed a subtle but oppressive shift in the atmosphere around him, laced with intense hatred and murderous intent.

Zuri's cool eyes observed the cheerful man in front of her, and a wave of hatred and murderous intent spread through her. Her blood boiled with rage.

Miles!

Finally, she saw him again!

In her past life, it was this hypocritical man who had tormented her to the brink of madness.

In the previous life, the Ling family had sent her to this perverse man for financing.

He was impotent, and because of this, he took pleasure in tormenting women, relishing their cries and pleas for mercy.

When she was first sent to him, no matter how much he whipped her or pulled out her nails one by one, she never made a sound. Zuri's silence infuriated the twisted man, who locked her in a basement infested with rats.

These rats had grown up eating human flesh, were not afraid of humans, and were exceptionally fierce.

He intended for these rats to gnaw away at her flesh slowly, hoping to let her die a miserable death.

For half a month—an entire half month.

Day after day, night after night, she had to kill one rat after another to stay alive. Only when she had killed the last rat was she allowed a moment of rest and survival.

At that time, her only thought was to survive!

Survive to take revenge on these beasts.

In her past life, when Zuri escaped her prison, Miles was abroad on business and she couldn't deal with him personally—a regret from her previous life.

But this time, she would not have such regrets.

In this life, she would make him experience the suffering she endured in her past life.

Miles!

It's been a long time!

Zuri's eyes were filled with a bloodthirsty killing intent, so intense it seemed tangible, with a hint of losing control. Her eyes turned blood-red, a sign of the simmering rage within.

She wanted to act now!

What to do, she could barely wait.

Crushing his bones bit by bit seemed like a good idea.

Her fingers tightened slightly, and she smiled at Miles with an eerie grin.

Miles felt a sudden chill and turned to Zuri with a puzzled look. Her smiling, blood-red eyes were fixed on him, and the look sent shivers down his spine.

Her gaze was quite unsettling.

His eyes narrowed as he sensed a dark aura similar to his own kind.

Crush him!

Crush him thoroughly!

Zuri's hand twitched slightly when suddenly, a strong hand grasped hers, and a warm breath spread from her palm to her arm, reaching her heart.

As her rage and hatred began to cloud her mind, a sudden flash of clarity broke through. The darkness receded, and her rationality and calm began to return.

Zuri turned her head and met deep, concerned eyes.

"Are you feeling unwell?"

Zuri shook her head.

"I take it this is Miss Ling from the Ling family. It's a pleasure to meet you," Miles extended his hand warmly.

Zuri looked at the outstretched hand, a smirk playing on her lips.

Leo's sharp gaze swept over Miles's hand, his expression a mix of amusement and annoyance.

Miles understood and awkwardly withdrew his hand. Internally, he marveled at how possessive Young Master Ye was, unwilling even to allow a simple handshake.

This realization made Miles aware that the young girl, though small, was not someone he could provoke.

"Recently, I happened to visit Myanmar and acquired some top-quality jadeite. If you have time, Young Master Ye, you can take Miss Ling to my factory to select some."

It seemed like an attempt to bribe Leo, suggesting that Miles had something to ask for.

"I'm not interested," Zuri replied disinterestedly, though she was very interested in how to deal with him.

"Miss Ling, the color of your skin would look stunning with some purple glass jadeite. I'll have a piece sent to your residence tomorrow," Miles insisted.

Zuri tilted her head and said sweetly, "Brother Ye, I want that."

Leo's heart skipped a beat.

The way she called him "Brother Ye" was unexpected, and it made Leo's lips curve into a gentle smile.

"Mm."

Leo promptly grabbed a plate to fetch food, leaving Miles to fend for himself.

Leo used a fork to feed Zuri, "Open your mouth."

Zuri opened her mouth and chewed contentedly.

Miles awkwardly stood by, while the onlookers gradually turned their attention to the scene. Seeing Young Master Ye personally feed Miss Ling, their expressions revealed what was to be expected.

Many women and heiresses watched with intense jealousy.

Azura, standing a few steps away, found that the cake in her mouth no longer tasted sweet or pleasant; in fact, it was starting to feel like a chore to eat.

"What else would you like to eat?" Leo asked kindly.

"I'd like some juice."

Leo took a fresh glass of juice from a waiter and handed it to her.

Miles, seeing the two of them so engrossed in their own world, felt like he was invisible and had to leave awkwardly.

Once Miles left, Zuri's smile faded. She saw Leo approaching with fruit, "I can't eat anymore. Uncle, you eat it yourself. Thank you for earlier."

If not for his timely intervention, she might have been blinded by hatred and done something irrational.

Uncle?!!!

"Why aren't you calling me 'Brother' anymore?" Leo's eyes were filled with amusement as he looked at her.

Zuri felt embarrassed under his gaze and even sensed a hint of a 'user' vibe in his look.
