Chapter 113: Stocks

Zuri couldn't help but feel grateful. It was fortunate that she had recruited Evan first, but she admired his integrity even more. It took tremendous resolve to refuse Nolan's offer just to keep a promise.

Most people in his position wouldn't have turned down a chance to collaborate with a financial tycoon.

"I'm glad you trust me so much. As for the funding, we don't need to worry about that for now. I'll find a way to gather the money."

After parting ways with Evan, Zuri entered a mall, changed her outfit, and headed to the stock exchange. The large trading hall was not noisy; everyone was focused on the central screen, occasionally whispering to those around them.

Standing beneath the screen, Zuri scanned the list of company names and finally found the obscure, listed company "Zhangshangyun Auto Parts" in a corner.

If she remembered correctly, this company's stock would experience a rollercoaster of ups and downs over the next six months.

In her previous life, she had dabbled in stocks a few times, always accompanying her cousin Damian.

They had made some small gains together, but because she wasn't particularly interested, she handed all her earnings over to Damian, who eventually lost it all.

She never expected to enter the stock exchange and trade stocks again in this life.

Her knowledge of Zhangshangyun came from Damian. He was very interested in finance, and since they spent a lot of time together, she learned a lot from him.

Zhangshangyun, according to him, was one of the legendary stocks.

The company's stock price had a dramatic trajectory. Initially priced at over 30 yuan, it dropped steadily after listing, falling to just over 8 yuan, and no one dared to buy it.

When it seemed to be abandoned by everyone, it suddenly rose to over 9 yuan one day, but still, no one noticed or cared.

Silently, it continued to climb to 20 yuan, and finally, large numbers of buyers came in, thinking it would keep rising. Unexpectedly, it plummeted the next day, hitting the limit down and causing massive losses.

It then dropped from over 20 yuan back down to 7 yuan.

After a week of stagnation, it started to rise again, but this time no one dared to buy. It soared all the way to over 50 yuan.

When large numbers of buyers came in again, it crashed within two days.

This stock continued its cycle of dramatic rises and falls, causing many investors to nearly have heart attacks.

Savvy investors made a fortune, but many others lost everything.

Coincidentally, this company's stock was set to rise dramatically for the first time tomorrow.

Zuri registered an account and invested all her money into this company.

Just as she was about to click to confirm the purchase, someone approached her and whispered, "This isn't a good stock. It's cheap, but it's been falling steadily. You'll likely get stuck if you buy it."

Zuri looked up to see a man with refined features and a gentle voice, exuding an elegant demeanor that naturally made people like him.

In her previous life, she had been deceived by this refined exterior, leading to her tragic end.

In this life, she didn't expect to meet him here.

Damian!

Her dear cousin!

The one who had deceived her for eight years and betrayed her in the end.

Among the Lin family, the one Zuri hated the most was him.

He had been her last source of warmth, her salvation.

But...

In the end, he was the one who killed her.

His betrayal hurt far more than that of Saira or anyone else in the Lin family.

Zuri's hand clenched unconsciously as she struggled to control her urge to strangle him, her expression remaining calm as she resumed her actions.

Seeing that she ignored his advice, Damian frowned, "You shouldn't put all your money into one stock. It's too risky. It's better to diversify your investments."

Damian continued talking, oblivious to the growing irritation on Zuri's face.

"Let me recommend a few stocks. For example, Fengxing is doing well right now. It's been rising and should continue to do so for a while. If you buy now, you can sell later for a profit. Or this one, it looks weak now, but from my observations, it will rise later..."

"Have you said enough?" Zuri's cold voice cut him off.

Damian stood awkwardly, unsure of what to do.

"Sorry, I was too forward," Damian apologized.

Zuri's voice was icy, "If you know you're being forward, then don't do it."

Damian's face turned red from the reprimand.

He didn't know why, but seeing her made him want to talk.

The commotion drew the attention of many, and they began pointing and whispering, making Damian feel even more embarrassed.

After apologizing once more, Damian hurriedly turned and left.

After he left, an old trader remarked, "He wasn't wrong, you know. He meant well. There's no need to be so angry, young lady."

Meant well?

Zuri sneered internally.

She had once thought he had a good heart, different from the Lin family or the Qin family, but she later realized they were all no good.

Leaving the stock exchange, Zuri returned to school to prepare for her final exams.

Upon arrival, she noticed a change from the previous somber atmosphere. Everyone was chattering excitedly about something.

Azura spotted Zuri and called her over, "Zuri, great news! Owen is coming to our school to film. Are you excited?"

"He's coming to film?" Zuri was surprised.

Farida nodded excitedly, "Yes! The whole school is buzzing. They're even looking for extras, and lots of people are signing up. Are you joining?"

"Uh, we have exams soon," Zuri reminded her.

"Haha, I almost forgot. They'll start filming after our exams," Azura explained.

No wonder everyone was so excited.

"Spaces are limited, so we need to sign up quickly," Farida said.

Azura grinned, "I've already signed up the three of us."

Farida gave her a thumbs up.

Zuri remained silent.

They had made the decision for her, so asking now seemed pointless.

The oppressive atmosphere before the exams had vanished, replaced by excitement. Everyone was eager to finish their exams and meet their idol.

Chapter 114: The Crew's Filming

As soon as Windsor Academy's exams ended, Owen's crew immediately moved into the school and began setting up the location in full swing.

In the backstage area of the filming location, several actors were getting their makeup done.

"Why did the director choose this place for filming? There are so many schools in the Magic City; why go all the way to Oceanic City?" a female actor complained.

"Exactly. Although Oceanic City is only two hours from Magic City, it's still a bit of a hassle to go back and forth. It's a waste of time and money. This is so unlike Director Zhang, who is usually so thrifty."

The actress sitting in the middle, who had remained silent, finally spoke up, "You guys don't understand. This school is a true aristocratic institution with a hundred-year history. It fits the script's setting perfectly."

Everyone around her looked enlightened, though they had no idea that the suggestion had come from a certain man.

At this moment, Owen was sitting in a private dressing room backstage. While the makeup artist was applying makeup, he was absorbed in playing with his phone.

Owen: [Zuri, guess where I am?]

At the same time, Zuri and the other students were arranged in a classroom, all waiting to go on stage. Zuri looked at the message from Owen for a long time, speechless.

No matter how she looked at it, the message exuded a childish vibe.

Zuri thought for a moment and typed three words.

Zuri: [I don't know.]

He must be delighted to see these three words. After all, his goal was to surprise her. See how considerate she is, pretending to know nothing.

Zuri thought to herself, unaware that the recipient of the message fell into deep contemplation upon seeing the words "I don't know."

Owen frowned, and a gloomy aura emanated from him.

The makeup artist immediately sensed it and looked at him suspiciously.

"Mr. Feng, are you alright?"

"No!"

He was not alright at all.

The makeup artist was at a loss for words. Just as he was hesitating about what to say, he heard Owen ask a question.

"If everyone around knows about something, but one person doesn't, what do you think the reason could be?"

The makeup artist thought for a moment, "That person might be indifferent to their surroundings, or the matter might be insignificant to them, easily forgotten."

After the makeup artist finished speaking, Owen looked even more miserable, staring at him with eyes that seemed to say, "Who are you trying to fool?!"

The makeup artist was bewildered.

Wasn't he right?!

If she wasn't indifferent, how could she not know?

Although he was convinced he was correct, he wisely chose not to argue.

Zuri thought Owen would reply quickly, but after waiting for a while without a response, she found it strange. But then she remembered he was a big star and probably very busy, so not replying was normal.

At that moment, a crew member walked into the classroom and told all the students, "We're about to start filming. Before we do, please hand over your phones. The crew will keep them safe and return them after filming."

Immediately, the classroom filled with groans, but everyone complied and handed over their phones.

Zuri, following the others, tossed her phone into the box.

On the other side, after much hesitation, Owen finally replied.

Owen: [Zuri, I'm at your school. Want to come visit the set? I'd love to have some of your homemade pastries.]

After sending the message, Owen waited eagerly, but his phone remained silent.

Owen frowned and turned to Isaac, "Call me."

"Why?" Isaac asked suspiciously.

"I think my phone is broken."

Without doubting him, Isaac dialed Owen's number, and the phone on the table rang the next second.

"It's working fine."

Owen picked up the phone, examining it closely. It was indeed in perfect working condition, except no one was replying to his message.

Seeing Owen's expression, Isaac felt alarmed.

Something was off!

Waiting anxiously for a text message like this was not a good sign.

Isaac signaled to his assistant, who promptly stepped forward, "Mr. Feng, it's almost time. I'll keep your phone safe."

Owen glanced at the phone and tossed it to him, "Let me know if there's any message."

The assistant nodded quickly.

Zuri and the others walked to the grove outside the square, where several actors were rehearsing their lines under a large tree.

The students, curious about the filming, looked around eagerly.

Azura spun around, "Where's my idol Owen? Why don't I see him?"

"He's a big star, so he'll naturally appear last. He's probably resting in his trailer now and will come out when it's time to shoot. You'll have to wait," Farida, who knew a bit about the entertainment industry, explained.

Zuri looked at the female stars under the sunshade not far away, "Those two look familiar."

Farida and Azura followed her gaze. The actresses under the sunshade were attractive and graceful, but they didn't recognize them.

"Those two must be new actresses. We don't know their names," Farida said.

"Zuri, you don't recognize Owen but recognize them?" Azura squinted her eyes dangerously, her gaze unfriendly.

"Hehe," Zuri laughed dryly.

She had forgotten the different timelines.

Those two new actresses were not famous now but would become big stars in the future. Even someone like her, who never followed entertainment news, would know them, which showed how famous they would be.

The stage manager walked over and addressed the students, "All extras, come here. During the shoot, just walk around the square. Don't look at the actors; just go about your business. Understand?"

"Understood," came the scattered responses.

"You three walk along this path, and you three over there. The three girls in blue, walk over here," the stage manager directed Zuri and her friends.

The three of them moved to a spot close to the main actors, a prime location with a high chance of being on camera.

"Ah, I'm so lucky to be this close to my idol!" Azura's face was flushed with excitement.

"Look at how happy you are," Farida was also excited but much more restrained.

Zuri, however, felt nothing.

Owen seemed to be a nice, amusing person.

If Isaac and Owen's assistant heard Zuri's evaluation, they would probably cough up blood.

Natalie and her group were envious and jealous of the three's prime spot.

"Next time, I'll ask my cousin to take me to the set and get the best spot," Natalie grumbled.

"Forget it. Can your cousin invite Owen?" Samara pointed out bluntly.

Natalie was immediately deflated.

At that moment, a commotion arose in the crowd.

"Owen's here."
