Chapter 2: •Dilemma•

Life is not easy, it never was and it never will be.

Especially so when you're reborn in an anime where killing is legal— pardoned— and children are taught to fight like their life depended on it— which will be factual some time in the future as the inevitable marching of war threatens to destroy the temporary peace of the world.

Sure, it may have mellowed out on the child soldier training in peaceful times, but it was there. The intention of raising an army.

Peace was as brittle as a bamboo paper dipped in ink can be. In the literal sense as well, peace was only a document of paper signed by the ninja village leaders.

It would only require a second or so to destroy the brittle facade of peace. And that's why they continue to train child soldiers. War may have ended, but at any given time the threat of war continues to loom over.

Do I resent the Hokage like some fanfiction protagonists? No I don't.

Do I take a liking to the Hokage? No I don't.

If someone were to ask me what the Hokage was to me, it's simple. The old guy's just a dude in charge— half in charged of the village, since Danzo is the shadow Hokage.

Like how a student oblivious to politics would feel towards their prime minister or president.

You don't really care as long as it does not affect you personally.

Now, a fan of Naruto would try to save the characters from their doom; Jiraiya, Shisui, Hiruzen, Itachi and Neji.

But I was long over that phase.

So, I had no plans of the likes. Additionally, I never really understood the appeal of Jiraiya. Sure he was a good father figure at some point, but he was also a reckless and irresponsible individual.

The same goes for Shisui, I would bet all my money that the fandom only liked him because he looks good.

That was it. He looks good, that was the selling point.

Pfft-

Ah, living things judge based on appearances.

I should really stop laughing, the kids are giving me weird glances. I mean, who wouldn't when they see a toddler suddenly bursting out laughing like a yandere whilst she sat on a swing.

The adults didn't care, they thought it was cute and didn't pay much attention.

Dumb fucks.

I continued to sit on the swing and stare at the wiggling hairy green caterpillar on the rope.

How nice would it be if I was overpowered. Maybe then I'll be able to act freely.

Killing was illegal.

It was morally wrong.

It can be justified here and that's why I used 'was', past tense.

In the Narutoverse? Killing was normal, until Naruto's generation where killing becomes sort of an unspeakable action despite nearly all the adults having done it at least once.

In a world where killing can be justified and glorified, now that's where my morals become even more conflicted than it was before.

I was taught by the education system that the laws prevent people from going out of control

I do believe that human ethics cultivated from out upbringing also prevents people from committing crimes (by law).

So if killing becomes a justified and also a possible act of a glorious or honourable accomplishment, would I be able to execute the action?

Logically speaking in theory form, yes.

Practically applying it in real life? No.

But, in this life. In this anime, my identity as Marie Hoshimiya does not care for the lives of these background fill-in characters. No they are not people, they are characters. Life only has value when it was put in one's eyes and the amount they contribute to others and the world. These characters were never put in the spotlight of the anime, so their lives' value is zero.

So does their death. The value of death depends on one's relationship and contribution to the world.

These extras' deaths are also a value zero. They are insignificant to the plot and the outcome of this world.

Fictional extras in the world created by Kishimoto has no value in Marie's eyes.

As Hyūga Miko?

They were real. Real breathing and living people with complex lives.

I have no doubts that if I were to reveal the future to anyone, the result would be catastrophic.

Most times, the future is inevitable but not this time. If I revealed too much, everything could change. Undoubtly, the butterfly effect or ripple effect could occur and disrupt the future.

The positive outcome might be destroyed even with a single shift of factor in the equation.

The equilibrium would be gone and so would the percentage of winning the fourth shinobi war assuming that Black Zetsu is intelligent enough to adapt his tactic to the given situation if he was as described; that it was an intelligent artificial creation manifested from Kaguya capable of absolute manipulation and tactical thinking.

"Oi, weird eyes! Pass me the ball!" one of the boys shouted from the playground. The boy looked dull, average and pretty much another background character like how a computer would generate a base model.

Tch, an extra.

Silently, I kick the ball over to their side and continued drowning in my thoughts.

"Freak. . . " the other kids whispered.

"Look at her eyes." another girl pointed at me.

Pardon? Do you know how close you are to the Hyūga clan compound?

Have you not learned about the Kekkei Genkai and genetic of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki? These are the eyes that originate from a clan of mass destruction and greedy God-like figures with a God complex.

Right, these people have yet to learn of the mother of chakra.

Ignoring the whispers of somehow already judgemental kids, I walked further away from the Hyūga compound and towards a large river that flowed gently beside a hill.

I remember this river, it was often showed in the Boruto anime and in Naruto the last.

Though the bridge was older and worn unlike the one showed in the anime, it was nice- the view that is. And also the fact that I no longer need the help of glasses to see clearly.

It would be embarassing wouldn't it? A member of a clan famed for their visual prowess to view a large scope of field vision that could be kilometres away to wear glasses.

"Miko, dinner's ready." Nee-san said and brought the dishes to the table.

Dinner consisted of gohan rice, thin grilled fishes, miso soup and a side dish. Very simple and as general as a japanese dinner can go, I noted.

"Itadakimasu." we echoed.

"Is father home yet?" I ask after grabbing the chopsticks, noticing the absence of a male in the house.

"He's still on a mission." mother replied after swallowing the rice.

"When's he coming back?"

"In a week or two." Nee-san said.

So I do have a father, had I not asked I would've assume he was dead or went out to buy milk. Honestly, the memories belonging to Hyūga Miko was a blur of incomplete clips while the ones belonging to Mary was crystal clear, except the most recent memory.

"Thank you for the food." I muttered audibly and got up to my shared room.

If everything starts going as cannon, I have to get stronger to survive. I have to adapt, improvise and overcome.

Starting with the Hyūga kekkei genkai. Everything should be meticulously planned, failure is not an option.

Assuming that I did not exist until this morning, then my life is at stake as my existence may have tampered with the original 'plot'. Unless. . .
