Chapter 1: Death?

('...' for thoughts. "..." for speech.)

A young man of around sixteen was lying alone in a hospital bed while an episode of My Hero Academia was playing on the tv screen in front of him. His name was Acacius, and he had been living with heart cancer for as long as he could remember. However, despite this, nobody he knew ever seemed to visit him or let him know that they wanted him to pull through.

'God, how did I end up here? Nobody beside me even though my life is coming to an end, truly miserable. If only I could've lived a more fulfilling life than this. Spending my days in this hospital bed with only anime and games to keep me company is nowhere near as fun as it sounds. Although, at least I got to beat every Pokemon game to date, that might be the only thing I don't regret.'

As he said this, he felt a sharp pain in his chest and a sudden spike in temperature throughout his body. The undeniable noise of his heart rate monitor going out of control as his heart spasmed uncontrollably only perpetuated the stress being put on his most vital organ.

After what felt like an eternity, the heart rate monitor slowed down which sent a wave of relief through Acacius' entire body. However, when it didn't stop slowing down he grew even more worried than before.

The machine showed that his heart was gradually beating less and less and eventually, it stopped. Despite this, he continued to think even though he was no longer alive.

There was nothing, and what started as minutes soon seemed to turn into hours, then days, then weeks, then months, and finally years. After an unknown amount of time, something entered this nothingness.

Or more accurately, someone.

A skeleton wearing a large black cloak with a black aura emanating from it stepped out of thin air and directly in front of Acacius. It was holding a huge scythe that was seemingly made of bone, as well as an ancient looking book in the other hand.

"Welcome, if you could not already tell, you are dead. I am known as the Grim Reaper, and your soul has passed on into my realm. I will help you pass on into your next life, I believe it is called reincarnation on the planet you came from. The process is very simple really, you can pick one world from fiction to be reborn in, and a different world to gain ten powers from."

"Wow, well you spared no time in telling me what's happening. Let me think for a minute, I want to be able to choose a good world before I do anything else. There's so many to choose from, but I'm gonna have to choose My Hero Academia for my world. The choice for my powers is obvious, it's definitely going to be Pokemon."

"Is that your final choice?"

"Yes, definitely."

"Very well, now it is time for your powers to be chosen. The way this will be done is by a wheel being spun with every single Pokemon on it until it lands on ten of them. Once these ten are chosen, you will obtain two traits from each Pokemon when you are reborn. These traits can be something that the Pokemon can do, a bodily feature it has, or even a slight adaptation to one of its existing features. These traits can be checked at any time in your next life by thinking about viewing them. Now, let's spin the wheel."

A giant wheel that had ten circular parts to it appeared, with each part having the name of every single Pokemon on it. The Grim Reaper clicked its fingers and the first circle started to spin. (Actually used a random generator for this, just put some to their max evolutions.)

After anticipating the first Pokemon for what felt like forever, Acacius saw that it landed on Tangrowth which gave him mixed thoughts, 'While not necessarily the strongest Pokemon in the games, its real applications could be quite strong depending on the traits I gain from it.'

When he finished thinking this, the second circle had begun to spin before landing on something that Acacius did not think possible, 'Heatran? But that's a legendary Pokemon, surely that can't be right. That doesn't matter though, this is already a great start.'

The third wheel began to spin before landing on Alakazam, 'Oh my god, this is going to be so good. No matter what I get from this it will be strong.'

The fourth wheel was next, and it landed on Electivire, 'There's no way my luck is this good, surely they can't keep being this good.'

The fifth wheel landed on a relatively new Pokemon, 'Inteleon, one of the starters from Sword and Shield, I didn't get the chance to use one but I heard that it is pretty decent, hopefully its reputation is accurate.'

The sixth wheel was quite exciting as it landed on Machamp, 'I hope this can bring me some form of physical strength in my next life along with the powers of the previous Pokemon.'

The seventh Pokemon was definitely one of high value as all dragon types are, 'Haxorus, this was an integral part of my team in Pokemon Black, I'm sure this will give me some very powerful traits.'

The eighth spin landed on one of Acacius' favourite Pokemon, 'Honchkrow, hopefully this will mean I can fly, or at least glide. Either way, it will be useful.'

The ninth circle had a powerful Pokemon that could potentially be one of the most interesting depending on the traits he gained from it, 'Gengar, one of the strongest ghost type Pokemon and for good reason, this thing is strong.'

Finally, the tenth circle was a more mysterious Pokemon to Acacius, 'Well, this is new to me. Stonjourner? I haven't used this one or really heard much about it, hopefully it's strong enough to let me use the traits as often as the others.'

Once the final circle had spun, the Grim Reaper turned to Acacius, "Well, your spins are finished and there are no retakes, so you shall be on your way. I hope not to see you again for a very long time. Good luck in your next life."

With that, the Grim Reaper disappeared from the otherwise empty space and soon after, so did Acacius.

The next thing he saw was the blinding lights of an all too familiar operating table, and the voice of a doctor, "Congratulations, it's a healthy baby boy, at least I think it is. There's a lot going on here, one of the more strange mutant type quirks I've seen."

While this was a bit surprising, the next thing he heard was definitely even more terrible, "Did you say mutant? Ugh, why did this have to happen to me?"
