Chapter 1: Prologue
Throughout history, girls have always made wishes. Those that have the strongest wishes are said to be magical girls. These girls become magical girls for their wishes to be granted. Throughout history, magical girls have existed, mostly in the shadows, and sometimes on the front lines, fighting for the ones they love. Magical girls are fated to fight against harbingers of destruction that sew seeds of despair in their wake. Such beings come in many forms, be it Witches, Wraiths, Nightmares, Rumors, or Kimochi.
All magical girls share the same fate. To one day fall into despair and become monsters themselves, bringing despair and casting their curses. All magical girls make a wish of hope, only for that wish to turn into a curse, and the magical girl becomes a witch. A terrible cycle that has repeated so many times. There are those who tried to create a new system or to subvert such a cycle to save their loved ones. But none have succeeded. Until the existence of the law of cycles came into being, all magical girls shared this fate.
The law of cycles gave birth to a new world, a new universe. Where magical girls do not become witches and simply disappear. Even in such a new world, magical girls must still battle, if they seek to continue to exist. For compensation for their salvation, magical girls continue their fight.
Then a demon changed that. She tore the law of cycles from the heavens, returning the girl that created it back to the real world. It was not until the first witch was born in captivity, that witches could return to the world of the living, the law of cycles falling into shambles. Once more magical girls could become witches. However, there was...hope in this. The witches from the law of cycles, including the two born in captivity retained their humanity. There are witches who rather cease existing than live as a witch, however, there are many who were happy to be alive again. Not all witches could retain their human-like minds. However many witches felt lost and fled to a land beyond imagination where the balance of hope and despair fluctuates due to rebellion.
It is within the land of Ever After that these despair rode souls have taken refuge. Witches that have made it here, have begun luring their comrades out of the remains of the law of cycles. This allowed those who could not exist as a result of the law of cycles to continue their existence once more in this odd land. However, this land is not safe for these entities. A strange curse has fallen upon this land, one that forces fate upon all who tread there. However, where there are curses, wishes are bound to be made. It is time for a new magical girl to appear and bring hope to this cursed land.
And such wishes are bound to be made at Ever After High, where students once turned on each other based on their desire to possess free will or blindly follow fate. In a school where broken relationships, tattered friendships, and fading dreams are scattered about, rebellion once again has begun to lurk.
