Chapter 2: The Test Part 2

"Click, Clack, Click, Clack" went Alessia's boots as she walked into the stadium. She felt super anxious and nervous, mostly because of the fact that the type of thing they are getting tested on are kept a secret. As she walked by Jackson to go to her spot at the opposite side, he gave her a smug grin. She shuddered as she looked into Jackson's icy grayish-blue eyes. She looked around the big stadium where their first competition would take place. There were about 50 people from their mafia family that was going to compete for the throne. Alessia thought that all the other people were small fls and her archenemy Jackson was her only true competitor. The stands were completely empty except for the family elders, her uncle and her dad. They all stared at her like lifeless stones. NO emotions could be seen in their eyes. They all had their stern judge face on. Then, she looked at the referee. He was no different. Alessia knew that this was an unavoidable situation. She must fight this one.

"I can do this," she thought, as she calmed down her nerves. "FFFTTT" The referee blew his whistle. "This test is called The Floor Is Lava Duel. Both competitors must first cross this obstacle course. The fastest person who completes this course and hit the red button first gets an advantage in the next round," the referee announced. Then, a huge obstacle course rose out of the floor. Instead of water at the bottom, there was boiling lava. "Uh-oh, this is not good, they are starting out with such a hard thing? If someone falls, it could actually cause some serious injury," she thought. Before Alessia could think anything more, the referee started the countdown.

" THREE, TWO, ONE, START!" the referee shouted. Everybody immediately took off. Alessia was stunned for a moment, then got a late start a second later. Meanwhile, Jackson ran the distance between the starting line and the obstacle course with ease. Alessia was 6 inches behind him, since she took a second to recollect. Alessia knew that this small distance between then would still bring her at a disadvantage. She pumped her legs faster and caught up to Jackson. They were in the lead. They both leaped for the first obstacle at the same time. It was a seesaw made of newly polished glass. Alessia and Jackson both jumped and held on to the tipping glass. It really wasn't a problem since both of them had suction cups on the bottom of their shoes. Some others, weren't too lucky. Piercing screams and cries of pain rang out in the stadium, as some people fell into the boiling lava. Alessia winced as she heard, but she kept on running forward. She really couldn't help them, even if she wanted.
