Chapter 61: Terrible Luck

His eyes felt sharper than they ever had before as he scanned the dark plains, but whether this was truly the case, or a result of spending months masked and in the dark, only time would tell. Regardless, it didn't take him long to find his next victim.

There, atop a low hill a kilometer or so away, were faint purple shapes that moved and flitted about erratically.

'They're fighting something,' Lokus thought, squinting at the shapes in the distance. It was too far and too dark to see exactly what it was that they fighting; all he could make out was the faint outline of it, highlighted by the ghostly purple glow of the wraiths.

'If it's a demon, kill it,' Lokus decided as he started for the hill. 'If it's a person… we'll see.'

It was, in fact, a demon that the wraiths were fighting, something that was made obvious not because he had gotten close enough to see it, but because its growls had reached his ears first.
