Shadda-Bi-Boran was a planet bathed in odd light from its dying star. Such a rare kind of light would certainly create superbly unique environmental conditions.
"It is no wonder Padme's father failed to save them with only his own efforts. The republic should've been the ones to take the helm along with the Jedi in that timeline. I will guarantee their survival this time.", I think to myself.
I enter the atmosphere and land near the largest city detected from a planetary scan. The scan also revealed that the population isn't large, barely over 100 million. Reproduction is evidently an issue for their species. Otherwise, such an old civilization would have much larger numbers.
When I exited the ship, I made a point to examine the wildlife. The animals were all scaley with thick leathery skin. The plants had semi-wood-like exteriors. The actual trees themselves had a fleshy covering, but a solid core. These traits were obviously for dealing with the sunlight. My armor protects me, but any non-native would suffer cancer after one or two years of constant exposure. At least, soft-skinned species would.
Observing the city from nearby, it's architecture was mostly of tough glass, course enough to possibly be mistaken for clear and polished quartz. I even saw some Shadda-Bi-Boran walking around. They are humanoid reptiles with leathery skin with an obvious layer of fat beneath the skin. There teeth are omnivorous, and their height is between 4 and 5 feet. They seem like an agile species. No tail but clawed hand and feet. Meant for climbing rather then for combat. Most terrain is mountainous on this world.
Cloaked, I entered the city. I could feel the fear and resignation of the population. The depression cast a specter behind all of the locals. I started to walk the streets while cloaked. I patched myself into the planetary holo-net and started hacking government networks. I was looking for death-row criminals to use as experimental material.
To my surprise, they don't even have a prison system. The low population, low birth rate, longer than normal lifespans, and age of their civilization has made them wise. Only petty crime like theft ever happens. The worst thing that happens on this planet.
"This slightly complicates things.", I mutter to myself.
Next idea was to go after the freshly dead, preferably with no family. After a few seconds, I got a hit. A middle-aged male died from a work accident today, broke his spine. No family, and a loner. Perfect for experiments.
"Hello outsider...", I hear.
I look and see a local, a senior. Even though I am walking around the streets, this shouldn't be possible.
I ask, "Elder, how were you able to see me?". I remain cloaked as I speak.
The elder smirks, "We can see you outsider. Our eyes see light different from other races in the galaxy. Your cloaking device may bend light perfectly, but our light is unique. I'm just the first one to greet you. Most of us care little for things nowadays.
I clack my mandibles and laugh, "I didn't think to take that into account. I suppose my technology still has more room for improvement.
As for you caring little for things. That is understandable. All of you are about to be killed by your sun after all. No other planet has this sort of environment to sustain your species. Your fate is clearly sealed after tens of thousands of years of civilization. "
The elder sighed, "Then why are you here?"
I hummed, "If I tell you, you might get false hope elder."
He chuckles, "False hope is something I can endure, something we can endure. Please tell outsider."
I uncloak, revealing the entirety of my form. Although they could "see" me. Really seeing me was a surprise for them. They never expected a being of my appearance. I then explain, "I am a genetic engineer, my race are specialists in this field. I am the top genius of my race, therefore an unmatched genetic engineer. I came here to gain your genetic material. My goal is to great a gene-virus to engineer your species to be able to live in other environments in one go."
The elder gasps then solemnly asks, "What do you need to begin?"
"Not much, I already found a newly dead member of your race with no family nor friends. I was going to take his body back to my ship and use him to analyze your genetic code. I have everything I need for a gene-virus on my ship, it is a simple matter for me. Simple cooperation is all I need."
The elder nods, "I am the Grand Elder of Shadda-Bi-Boran Council, Leraz Uzunim . I can authorize anything you need, including the body. I can have it to you immedietly."
"To meet you like this, the Force works in mysterious ways indeed. Then I appreciate the cooperation. As for the relocation of your species. The Amidala noble family of Naboo will handle that affair. As I'm sure you're aware that they will still attempt to relocate you all. Despite knowing the condition of your species.", say.
"That is right Predator, they will do so. However, now there is a chance we can live, rather than survive a little longer.", Leraz says seriously.
I then get to work.
