"Hang in there, Weedle! The opponent is almost defeated!!"
Rey was battling Brick, and both were down to their last Pokémon.
Earlier, Bob and Rey had struggled to get through the Viridian Forest, encountering many Pokémon along the way, so they arrived in Pewter City a bit late.
After arriving in Pewter City and healing at the Pokémon Center, Bob decided to battle the Gym Leader first.
The outcome wasn't surprising—Grass-types are too strong against dual Rock/Ground-types.
But Rey was different; he had two Pokémon, and neither of them was not effective against Rock-types.
In fact, Fire-types are even at a disadvantage.
However, Rey didn't give up so easily.
If he gave up because of a loss, it would be like rejecting the result of his 2500 hours playing Suicide Squad.
What? Why did he play that trash game from Sweet Baby? Of course, it was to test his patience.
Playing just Elden Ring and Dark Souls is merely difficult; with enough determination, you can still get through.
But that game primarily challenges the player's tolerance for frustration.
Anyway, back to the main topic.
Rey had luckily defeated the first Geodude, but the second one was too strong, causing Cyndaquil to faint (the gym leader uses Pokémon suitable for the player's strength level).
So he placed all his hopes on Weedle.
Weedle was weak, he knew that, but he believed in his Pokémon.
"POISON STING!!"
Weedle shot out a stinger, hitting Geodude.
Geodude was still standing, but its face started turning purple. Geodude was poisoned!
"Geodude, use Rock Tomb!"
Rocks flew towards Weedle, inflicting heavy damage. But Weedle hadn't fainted yet!
"WEEDLE! HANG IN THERE!!!"
Weedle's eyes burned with determination, and it began to glow!
"?!"
Rey looked on in surprise as Weedle started changing shape. Weedle evolved into Kakuna!
Rey stared at Kakuna, looking at its new form.
"Is this evolution?!"
"Don't forget you're still in a battle just because of evolution! Geodude, attack!"
Geodude jumped forward, its fist aimed at Kakuna.
Kakuna's shell suddenly became shiny, hardening significantly.
Geodude's punch didn't do much damage, and Kakuna immediately used String Shot, trapping Geodude in sticky silk.
"Use Poison Sting, uh… Weedle?"
"Kakuna."
"Oh, Kakuna, use Poison Sting!"
Kakuna shot the stinger at Geodude.
While it didn't do much physical damage, the poison took its toll.
Geodude couldn't take it anymore and fainted.
"Geodude is unable to battle, Kakuna wins!"
"Trainer NTRslayer has won!"
Brick let out a sigh of relief, retrieved his Pokémon, and walked over to Rey.
"Congratulations, here's your badge."
Brick didn't say much—he was tired from dealing with so many challengers that day.
Rey took the badge, joyfully hugging Kakuna.
"WE EARNED OUR FIRST BADGE BIATCHHHH!!!"
Happily running outside, he headed straight to Bob.
"How did it go?" Bob asked.
"I won."
"Great, now let's catch up with the new players."
"I need to heal my Pokémon first."
Rey went to the Pokémon Center. However, just before reaching the door, six players hurriedly rushed in ahead of him.
"???"
Why are the new players still here??
Rey walked in and saw the players tearfully handing their Pidgey to Nurse Joy.
Except for Oceanlover, who had no Pokémon, and Lukas, who was... sitting in a corner with a lifeless expression.
What on earth is going on here?
***
Pidgey had evolved into Pidgeotto!
Red happily patted Pidgeotto's head.
As for why Pidgey evolved?
He had the players to thank for that! Red was truly surprised by the amount of experience he gained from a single battle.
Even if those players managed to catch a small Pokémon, the amount of experience gained was greater than from a regular trainer!
It was more than enough for his Pidgey to evolve!
"Let's go," Brock said after packing up, looking at everyone.
Hearing that, Red returned Pidgeotto to its Poké Ball and walked along with the other three.
"Red, do you think they'll come back again?" Misty asked Red.
"..."
"Yeah, I'm talking about those weird people."
"..."
"Really? That sounds like a hassle..."
After walking for a while, they finally reached Mount Moon.
Needless to say, Mount Moon was large and expansive, so getting through the tunnel would take a long time.
Luckily, there was a Pokémon Center here to rest temporarily.
The group decided to heal their Pokémon first.
"Hello, young folks! I'm selling a super powerful Pokémon, extremely strong, the strongest in the world, stronger than Wukong from Black Myth! The price is 500 Pokédollars, do you want to buy it?" A shady man approached them, speaking with a tone typical of scammers.
And what? 500 Pokédollars? That's enough to buy two Poké Balls!
Wait a minute, on second thought, it's kind of cheap...
So Red bought it, shocking the other three.
"Wait, Red?? Why did you buy a Pokémon from that guy?!"
"Red, he's a scammer! Don't listen to him! Return the Poké Ball to him!"
"That's right, Red! Losing money to a scam is the worst insult!" Leaf look at Red
'Even a thief like you knows how to say that?' Red thought to himself.
The man was sweating bullets; it seemed this was his first time selling a Pokémon.
But Red didn't care much; he threw the Poké Ball.
Magikarp!
It was beautiful! Its red scales were sleek, in Full HD!
...It really was a Magikarp.
All four of them stared at the man, who was at a loss for words.
"Alright, if you don't want it, you can return it to me, and I'll refund your money," the man said, showing a hint of conscience.
But after looking at Magikarp for a moment, Red decided not to give it back.
"Are you sure?!" The man was surprised, watching Red smile as he petted Magikarp.
Red nodded, making the man happy.
Meanwhile, the three companions were not very pleased, especially Leaf.
"This is a scam, and yet you still bought it. What's wrong with your thinking?"
"..."
"Evolution? You mean you want to raise this Magikarp to evolve into Gyarados? But that's hard! People have been raising Magikarp for years, and it still hasn't evolved. What makes you think this one will?"
And besides, we just ate Magikarp! It was delicious and sweet! (This is a fanfic, please don't come after me.)
Seeing that Red stubbornly held onto Magikarp, Leaf had to give up.
She blamed those people! (Players: ???)
Ever since those players showed up, Red's personality had changed quite a bit!
She was determined to steal their stuff! (Players: What did we do wrong???)!
