Chapter 114: Chapter 114

Cyrus Craig was the man whom you would meet once and never forget. He was a man with great charisma, amiable nature, and was very soft-spoken.

He was tall, well over six feet tall, and carried himself with a confident demeanour.

As Aizen stood on the opposite side of the Arena, he could not help but smile at the discussions they had last night.

Who would have believed that Cyrus was just as dangerous as he was amiable?

The man had outrightly threatened him when they talked in private, warning him against ever mistreating his daughter. And the Orayen Prince did not take his words to heart.

It was clear that both of her adoptive parents were very protective of her, and they did little to hide this side of theirs.

Sabrina was truly blessed to have found them when she had no one else left in this world.

"This is an Official Gym Battle between the Saffron City Guardian and Aizen Orayen. The battle is over the Marsh Badge, and Standard Rules of the Gym Battle apply in this Match." The Referee patiently spoke. "The Battle will be a 3v3. The Gym Leader will choose their Pokemon first and are not allowed to substitute them at any point in the match. The Challenger may use substitution if their Pokemon has survived 5 minutes in that round or has won the previous round. Any questions?" She looked at Aizen, who shook his head.

"No."

"Gym Leader, please choose your first Pokémon." She turned to look at Cyrus, who already had a Pokeball in his hand.

"Kadabra!" The Pokémon announced itself as it appeared out of the light, and the Referee immediately registered it on her Pokedex.

"Challenger, please choose your first Pokémon."

Aizen waited a few seconds as he curiously looked at Kadabra, who was very well-trained and strong.

Usually, a Gym Leader would not choose such a Pokémon as their first Pokémon, but now that he had 8 Badges, these battles were not going to be as easy as they had been so far.

However, he was well-prepared for everything.

Calmly plucking a Pokeball from his belt, he tossed it in the air, and soon a bipedal Mantis Pokemon materialised out of the light.

"Scyther!" It proudly announced itself and then fiercely looked at its opponent.

"Kadabra vs Scyther! Let's begin!" The referee announced, and the Mantis wasted no time as it used Double-Team, started performing Sword Dace, and also sent out Air Slashes towards the Psychic Pokemon.

Cyrus raised his brow at the Pokémon's actions, which did not even need Aizen to make a call.

It almost seemed like they had already planned this, and he could not help but sigh in his heart.

"Use Psychic to eliminate these Air Slashes." He commanded, and his Pokémon did what he had asked it to do.

And then it did something more.

It suddenly started Teleporting, and then used Confusion.

Scyther was caught off-guard by its move, and before it knew it, it was struck with a powerful telekinetic force that rattled its body.

"Aerial Ace," Aizen called out, and despite its confusion, Scyther performed it.

However, Kadabra used Psychic at the last moment, protecting itself, and just when it got ready to send out another Psychic, the green Mantis used Agility and Double-Team, sending out some more Air Slashes towards it.

Thinking that it could deal with the Bug Pokémon just like it had done the last time, Kadabra teleported again after eliminating the Air Slashes.

However, this time, when it figured out which one was the real Scyther, the Mantis was already prepared.

"X-Scissor!" Aizen saw the opportunity and immediately called out, and his Pokémon did as asked.

A painful groan escaped Kadabra's mouth when it got struck by X-Scissor, which disrupted its Psychic Focus, and before it could counter with its own move, Scyther used Aerial Ace, inflicting even more damage.

"Scyther!!!" The green Mantis proudly yelled at the sky when Kadabra fell to the ground in an unconscious state.

"Kadabra is no longer able to battle, Scyther wins the first round!" The referee announced, and Cyrus called back his Pokemon.

Taking another look at Scyther, a smile appeared on his face, and then he sent out his second Pokémon.

"Mr. Mime." The clown Pokémon brightly smiled at the Mantis and moved its hands in a very cryptic manner.

"Round Two is between Mr. Mime and Scyther! Begin!" Seeing that Aizen did not recall his Pokemon, the Referee announced the start of the second round.

"Aerial Ace."

Mr. Mime was forced to protect itself with Psychic, but somehow, managed to use Reflect and took a hit, negating half of its power.

"Scyther!" The Mantis struggled when it was caught by Mr. Mine, whose vice grip was not letting go of its arms, and Cyrus ruthlessly called out the next move.

"Thunderbolt."

"Scy..." The Bug Pokémon groaned as it was rattled by the Electric Move, which was followed by Icy Wind, which made things worse for it.

"Overpower it and throw it in the air." Hearing Aizen's call, some clarity returned to its mind, and then it used all its strength to pull Mr. Mime into the air, intending to throw it away.

"Confusion." Cyrus immediately ordered.

The Psychic attack rattled its mind once again, briefly making it forget what it was supposed to do, and that brief absence of mind cost it dearly.

A ruthless Telekinetic slap hit it, sending it crashing into the sidewall, and Aizen sighed as he knew that Scyther was not getting up after what just happened.

"Scyther is unable to battle. Mr. Mime wins the Second Round."

The Orayen Prince could tell how intelligent this clown Pokémon was, and to deal with it, he needed someone just as intelligent or more.

Thankfully, he had a Pokémon with him who could deal with it.

"Gengar." He softly called out, and his Pokémon manifested from his shadow and entered the Arena.

"Mr. Mime vs Gengar in the third round! Let's begin!"

"Light Screen." Cyrus immediately called out when he saw that it was a Gengar, but what happened next caught them all off-guard.

Gengar's speed was simply ridiculous, and it appeared in front of Mr. Mine in a blink of an eye.

Before the Clown Pokémon could even react, it was smacked across the face with a powerful Sucker Punch.

Mr. Mime was rattled by the move, and before it could regain clarity, a series of Shadow Punches laded on its body, which it could not avoid.

The Ghostly energy started feeding on its Psychic Reserves, and just when panic rose in its heart, a powerful Shadow Ball struck it.

Everyone in the stands, as well as the Referee and Cyrus, looked at the Gengar in astonishment.

And chills ran up the Referee's smile when she looked at the clock.

"Seven seconds." She was in disbelief.

It just took seven seconds for Gengar to deal with Cyrus' Mr. Mime.

The people who were aware of how strong this Mr. Mime was, were shocked to their core now.

"Mr. Mime is unable to battle. Gengar wins." The Referee announced the result after she regained her bearings, and then looked at Cryus, who wore a frown on his face.

Somehow, everyone felt that no matter which Pokémon he would call out, it was bound to lose against this Gengar.

And some felt really bad when they saw him call out Espeon.

They really did not want to see this beautiful evolution of Eevee receive the same treatment that Mr. Mime had received.

"Be careful," Cyrus whispered, and instantly, his Pokemon went on high alert.

It knew that the opponent it was up against was not a normal opponent whom it usually faced in Gym Battles.

"Espeon vs Gengar is the fourth round. Let's begin!"

The fox's eyes briefly glowed as it set up the Future Sight, and also the Light Screen and Reflect.

"Agility, Double-Team, and then use Psybeam."

Cyrus was serious now, and he immediately formulated the plan.

"Do not use Curse on it." Aizen understood his Pokémon's intentions and stopped it in time.

He had a hunch that this Espeon had Magic Bounce as its ability, and the surprise on Cryus' face confirmed it. "Shadow Punches. Eliminate all the images."

Gengar did as asked, and did not stay in the same place either. It also quickly countered the Psybeam with its own Psywave.

Espeon was helpless when Shadow Punches landed on it, but to its luck, Future Sight came into effect and Gengar was hit with great power that it was left rattled.

However, being as smart as it was, even in its brief confusion, it hid itself in the ground, hiding from Espeon's eyes.

A Shadow Punch again landed on the fox, which tossed it in the air, and then to its horror, Gengar appeared under it and created a Shadow Ball in the blink of an eye.

"Espeon..." It groaned in immense pain when it was struck by the ball, but managed to throw a Psychic at Gengar, who failed to evade it as well.

The Psychic Evolution of Eevee glared at it as soon as it landed on its feet, but Gengar just sinisterly smiled in response.

"Gengar..." It whispered before using Nightshade, creating a terrifying mirage for Espeon, which soon started feeding in its Psychic reserves.

Everyone winced when they watched the fox get hit by a Shadow Ball, just as soon as it had managed to survive the Night Shade. It marked the end of the match.

"Espeon is unable to battle. Gengar and Aizen win the fourth round and the match!" The referee announced the result, and she watched the Ghost Pokemon walk towards its Trainer and merge with his shadow.

"You have a very intelligent and capable Pokemon on your Team, Aizen." Cyrus smiled when he walked over and offered the Marsh Badge.

"Thank you." The Orayen Prince smiled back as he accepted his ninth Badge, and then shook hands with the Guardian of Saffron City. "It was a good match."

"It wasn't for me." The brown-haired man laughed and then nodded to the boy. "Your trust in your Pokemon's ability is commendable."

Throughout the Match, Aizen showed that he did not have to guide Scyther and Gengar's every move. Both his Pokémon had strong battle instincts, and Gengar was clearly way too experienced in dealing with Psychic Pokemon.

"They are my strength." He lightly said and laughed when Gengar emerged from his Shadow and tickled his belly.

Leaf came over to congratulate him, hugging him, something that she needed to do as she was a little nervous about her match.

Aizen patted her head and whispered a few words of encouragement before walking to the stands and sitting next to his sister, who planted a kiss on his cheek.

"Come on, Leaf!" Anira and Misty cheered for their friend, and the girl from Pallet Town flashed a bright smile before she looked at Cyrus, waiting for him to choose his Pokemon.
