Chapter 28: SP7: Leaf VS LT.Surge
The next evening after Wes was in the face of Zapdos, Leaf finally reached Vermilion City. The first thing she did, after arriving, was to visit the Pokemon Center. After calling home and having her Pokemon healed, she left for her 3rd Gym challenge. Thanks to her Grass Type Pokemon the past 2 challenges were quite easy, so far.
" The last two Gyms weren't a problem. Since the Gym Leader of this Gym uses Electric Types and my Grass Types resist it, i should be able to deal with him without any problems."
Leaf was contemplating about her next battle. As she reached the Gym, she was immediately informed, that a challenger was already facing LT.Surge.
Leaf went in the stands, to see the match with her own eyes. In the arena a Jolteon and a Raichu were facing a Kadabra and a Sandslash. The trainer commanding the later two was a tall youth with spiky brown to orange hair wearing a black T shirt and purple trousers. It was her friend, rival and big crush Garry Oak.
Garry: Kadabra use Psybeam. Sandslash use Night Slash.
Surge: Raichu use Thunderbolt. Jolteon use Double Kick.
The Thunderbolt of Raichu collided with the Psybeam. The two attacks destroyed eachother, while Sandslash and Jolteon stood their ground and traded hits.
" Garry is amazing. He managed to turn a Double Battle, in a Raichu VS Kadabra and a Jolteon VS Sandslash, single battle."
Leaf was mesmerized by the tactics employed by Garry.
" The Raichu looks tired. It must have fought for a long time."
Leaf had noticed, that the Raichu of LT. Surge showed clear sighs, of not being in its best condition. Unbeknownst to her, this Raichu was one of the Pokemon that started in this battle. It also managed to take out two of Garry's Pokemon.
Suddenly Kadabra managed to stun Raichu for a bit. Garry showed a huge smile. He had been waiting for that, so he could perform his strategy to absolute perfection. Then he snapped his finger and gave an order.
Garry: Sandslash use Magnitude.
Then with out any warning Kadabra teleported using its Teleport Move in the airspace above Jolteon. Sandslash then performed a sumo stomp and a Magnitude 8 was unleashed in its full glory. Raichu was knocked out directly after that hit.
After all it had spend a lot of energy since it was in this fight from the start. Jolteon was hit hard by the huge super effective blow but before it could reorganize itself, a Psybeam was directly lunched towards it. Garry had already discussed ,about this with Kadabra and Sandslash in the waiting room. Jolteon was directly hit by the Psybeam and had immediately fainted winning Garry the match.
Surge: Congratulations for winning. You can really do the talk. I can't wait to see your performance in the young Double tournament next week.
Garry: I won't even break a sweat. I'm going to win this tournament for sure.
Surge: That's what i like to hear. Now i as the Gym Leader of Vermilion City, i présent you with the Thunder Badge. Also, i give you the prize of 22000 Pokedolars. You can also choose Between the unbrakeable Thunderbolt TM or a Calcium and a Carbos Vitamin.
Garry: I choose the TM.
Garry without any hesitation picked the TM. After all Thunderbolt is one of the best Electric Type Moves.
Leaf after the match ended, went into the waiting room. She was informed that she would participate in a 4VS4 Double battle. She carefully considered the Pokemon LT.Surge had, when he fought against Garry.
" With a Raichu and a Jolteon. I must keep my best Pokémon's for later. Paras and my newly evolved Gloom should be a good duo to start. Ok i decided in my strategy for the match."
Leaf had made up her mind for the battle. After spending half an hour in the waiting room she left for the arena.
When she reached the arena for the battle she was greeted by an arena, that the boundaries and the center instead of white paining like usual, it had neon lights of ever changing colours. When Garry had fought the colour of those lights would change between blue, azure, light blue, light green, green and purple. Now in her battle, the colour was Pink, orange, and red.
"Wow. the colour changes in response to the challengers gender. What a nice idea."
Leaf was amazed by the fashionable touches of this Gym. The Gym Leader being in the army made her think that this would be a totally serious field.
Surge: Ok young lady, are you ready for our war to begin.
Leaf was interrupted by the Gym Leader sitting in the opposite corner of her. LT.Surge was wearing Army pants with a green tank top and black sunglasses resting on his forehead. He had pure blonde hair and except the huge muscles that could be clearly seen, Leaf spotted metallic army tags worn on his neck as a necklace.
Leaf: I'm ready.
Leaf nodded in confirmation.
Surge: Ok then. Time to fight. Voltorb, Magnemite CHAAAAAAARGE the enemy.
Leaf: Paras, Gloom. I choose you.
Then all four Pokemon appeared on the field at the same time totally ready for the ensuing fight.
Surge: Voltorb Taunt the Paras. Magnemite use Light Screen.
Leaf: Gloom use Growth. Paras Spore the Magnemite.
After the orders were given Voltorb managed to Taunt Paras. As a result Paras could not use any non attacking Moves for some time. Gloom instead absorbed the surrounding solar energy to rise both its Atk and SPAtk stat by one stage. On the other hand a green mirror screen appeared infront of Magnemite and Voltorb.
" My tactic was countered. Ok then until Taunt wheres off i have to be on the offense."
Leaf: Gloom use Razor Leaf. Paras use Fury Cutter on Voltorb.
Surge: Voltorb Sonic Boom the Gloom. Magnemite use Thunder Wave on Gloom then Taunt.
Gloom immediately after hearing Leafs order launched two sets of Razor Leaf. One set was heading towards Voltorb while the other was targeting the Magnemite. The Sonic Boom lunched by Voltorb hit Gloom directly inflicting 20 HP of damage. Magnemite's Thunder Wave came right after that paralyzing the Gloom. Gloom immediately after that was also taunted by Magnemite. The Razor Leaf of Gloom hit at that time both of its intended targets. Paras right after that hit Magnemite for miniscule damage with its Fury Cutter Move.
"What's going on??? Voltorb could dodge my Razor Leaf. Magnemite resisted it with its Steel Typing, so it would be possible to just take the hit and then deal with my Gloom."
Leaf started to get very confused about the strategy of LT.Surge.
Surge: Voltorb Tackle the Gloom. Magnemite move a few steps behind and harass the enemy.
Leaf: Gloom use Mega Drain. Paras dodge and use Fury Cutter as many times as possible.
Voltorb immediately after hearing its trainers order rolled towards Gloom. Gloom used its Mega Drain Move to restore its HP. Voltorb chose not to spend any efort at dodging and went straight for Gloom. On the other hand Paras was dodging the harassment of Mirror Shot, Supersonic and Magnet Bomb aming for it. Magnemite at the same time was moving erratically all over the arene. Voltorb on the other hand finally connected with the paralyzed Gloom and after the hit, Voltorb rolled back having close to the exact distance between Gloom and Paras.
"I can't understand Voltorb. It simply takes all my attacks head on while the Steel Type Magnemite, which is capable of such a fight is dodging all over the place."
As the fight was going on, Leaf was growing more uneasy. She felt that LT.Surge was baiting her in. Suddenly LT.Surge snapped his finger.
"A signal. wait a...!!!!!!! OH NO. This positions."
Leaf: GET AWAY FROM VOLTORB BOTH OF YOU.
Leaf screamed at the top of her lungs.After hearing the snap of the finger and seeing Her Gloom and Paras in a line with Voltorb in the middle of Gloom and Paras, while Magnemite was further away from Paras, made Leaf think of the worst possible strategy her opponent implemented.
Voltorb was enveloped by a bright blinding light and then...:
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM.💥
A massive explosion enveloped all the Pokemon. Magnemite was the furthest Pokémon away from the explosion and was only pushed back and enveloped by the smoke. Paras on the other hand flew like a rocket lunched from a rocket launcher towards LT.Surge. The Vermilion City Gym Leader actually dodged to the right to avoid the flying Paras, from hiting him. Paras then smashed into the wall and bounced of it. It had completely fainted.
On the other hand, Gloom was launched diagonally and hit a wall. The force of the hit was so big that Gloom actually embedded itself into the wall like an Egyptian hieroglyphic in the pyramids. Voltorb as the center of that terrible explosion, also fainted.
Leaf completely flustered of that outcome, returned back to their Pokeballs both her fainted Pokemon. LT.Surge also returned back his Voltorb.
Surge: It appears that you fell for my little trick.
Leaf: It appears so. It was a very well executed plan. I didn't expect for Voltorb to blow up.
Surge: Are you ready for more.
Leaf didn't answer. She only took the Pokeballs of her next two Pokemon. Seeing this LT.Surge also responded in kind. Then an Ivysaur and a Weepinbell appeared on Leaf's side. On the other side a Jolteon was called out by the Gym Leader.
Leaf: Ivysaur Leech Seed the Jolteon. Weepinbell use Growth.
Surge: Magnemite Protect and counter the attacks headed towards Jolteon. Jolteon use Pin Missile.
Ivysaur launched a big seed towards Jolteon but Magnemite got infront of Jolteon and was seeded instead. Jolteon then launched a barrage of Pin waves. All five waves of Pin Missile hit Ivysaur. Two of them resulted as critical hits. Weepingbell on the other hand absorbed the surrounding solar energy rising its Atk and SPAtk stats by one stage. Magnemite seeing the unmoving Weepinbell counter attacked using its Magnet Bomb Move hiting the Weepinbell. Then Magnemite was enveloped by a red electrifying light. Thanks to Leech Seed Ivysaur restored back some of its lost HP.
Surge: Jolteon Pin Missile Ivysaur.
Leaf: Weepinbell jump infront of Ivysaur and Razor Leaf. Ivysaur use Ingrain.
Weepinbell immediately covered Ivysaur and launched a Razor Leaf towards Jolteon but Magnemite took the hit instead. 3 waves of Pin Missile hit Weepinbell and Magnemite tried to paralyze an opposing Pokemon with its Thunder Wave Move, but both Ivysaur and Weepinbell dodged the attack. Then Ivysaur took root and started recovering its HP slowly, while Leech Seed absorbed some HP from Magnemite.
Leaf: Ivysaur Power Whip. Weepinbell use Razor Leaf.
Surge: Jolteon Thunder.
Jolteon threw, huge lighting energy towards the sky. As Ivysaur prepared to use its Power Whip and Weepinbell used its Razor Leaf Move. A huge lighting then, fell from the sky and hit Ivysaur. Ivysaur despite being hit launched its Power Whip Move and hit Magnemite for a critical hit. Then Weepinbell's Razor Leaf came. All this damage was to much for Magnemite. Then after that the Light Screen disappeared.
Surge: Nice job. You took down my Magnemite. But now is my Ace's turn to appear. ITS TIME FOR WAR RAICHU.
Then Raichu appeared unleashing an aura full of fighting intent.
" So the Ace Pokemon has appeared. Alright then."
Surge: Jolteon Retaliate on Ivysaur. Raichu Helping Hand.
Leaf: Ivysaur use Reflect. Weepinbell Sleep Powder the Raichu.
Jolteon launched its body like an F1 car in a straight, leaving an afterimage behind. Raichu started clapping its hands empowering Jolteon's Move. Weepinbell moved towards Raichu to put it to sleep while Ivysaur was creating a blue screen, but before it could be completed, Jolteon hit Ivysaur very hard with its Retaliate Move. Ivysaur was actually uprooted from the ground and was smashed into the arena wall. Weepinbell finally reached Raichu and Sleep Powdered it. Raichu fell asleep without any resistance.
"Oh no Ivysaur."
Leaf immediately looked towards Ivysaur. Even though Ivysaur took a lot of damage it managed to get up. After it got up it rushed towards the arena.
Leaf: Good job Ivysaur.
Leaf let out an unconscious sigh as she congratulated her starter Pokemon. This fight had went very rough for her.
Surge: Jolteon!!!
Jolteon: Jooooooolt
Jolteon hearing its name, understood what its trainer wanted it to do. Then it started to wiggle its body and after the wiggling, clear sounds of bells ringing came from Jolteon's body. Raichu immediately opened its eyes wide and with the use of its Quick Attack it reached Weepinbell and hit it. Then Weepinbell was knocked backwards with Raichu following it closely. Then white light engulfed Raichu's right fist. Raichu after that punched Weepinbell sending it backwards even faster. This was Raichu's Mega Punch. This was a tactic LT.Surge perfected with this pair of Pokemon.
Leaf: Weepinbell counter attack, use Acid.
As Weepinbell was flying backwards It launched, big drops of poison from its mouth towards Raichu. Raichu took the hit like a champ.
Surge: Jolteon Rain Dance.
Leaf: Ivysaur Power Whip.
Jolteon started dancing and black clouds appeared in the battlefield. Ivysaur's Power Whip immediately went towards Jolteon striking it and knocking it backwards. But the rain was already here.
Surge: Jolteon, Raichu THUNDER!!!!!!!!.
LT.Surge screamed his order while pointing towards Ivysaur.
Leaf: Ivysaur, Weepinbell Razor Leaf.
Jolteon and Raichu immediately after hearing their orders launched a powerful lighting energy towards the black clouds. Ivysaur and Weepinbell released two sets of Razor Leafs each. Raichu stood infront of Jolteon and took the hits. Then two huge pillars of electricity fell from the sky braking the sound barrier and hiting Ivysaur.
Surge: Retaliate, Helping hand
Leaf: Weepinbell Vine Whip.
Ivysaur: IVYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
Before the lighting that fell from the sky dissipated Surge and Leaf gave their orders. But because Weepinbell was stunned by the sudden scream of Ivysaur it didn't react on time and was hit by the empowered Retaliate. Weepinbell immediately fainted. Ivysaur was also knocked out of the fight.
Leaf stared in pure disbelief and reluctance.
"No i fa.a.aa.aa.iled.."
After the result of this fight sticked on her, she immediately run towards her hurt Pokemon, ignoring the cats and dogs raining on her, giving them a big hug at the same time under the murky and full of depression weather.
Leaf: You fought very well. You deserve some well earned rest.
Then she returned both her Pokemon into their Pokeballs. After a moment the rain dissipated and LT.Surge aproached Leaf.
Surge: It was a very good fight even though you lost. You must go fast towards the Pokemon Center to heal your team. You can challenge me again tomorrow.
Leaf: I will see you soon.
Leaf left the Gym. After that she immediately went towards the Pokemon Center. She gave her four knocked out Pokemon to the nurse. As she was waiting she called back home. Her mother picked up the call.
Mom: Hell....ow sweety. Did something happened. You look devastated.
Leaf's mom was shocked. She could she the tears on her daughters face from the screen.
Leaf: Its alright mom don't worry. I just failed my third Gym challenge.
Mom: I understand. But there's no need to worry. Everyone looses from time to time.
Leaf: I know it. it ju....just that when i reached the Gym i saw Garry fighting the Gym leader and wining with an amazing tactic. I thought that i finally reached this two freaks but i failed.
Mom: Come on now you are a future elite of the Grass Type. Don't let a setback pull you down. just train harder than ever before and believe in your self more. Me and your father can't wait to see you in the Indigo league.
Leaf: Thanks mom.
Leaf continued to speak with her mother until she received her Pokemon back. She decided to give them a day off, after such a brutal defeat. Tomorrow she would train like there's now tomorrow and after three days she will challenge the Gym leader of Vermilion City again.
