Chapter 38: Capturing Froakie!

---

[Pokémon: Froakie]

Ability: Torrent, Protean

Gender: Male

Talent: Lord-tier

Level: 15

Moves: Bubble, Water Pulse, Double Team, Aerial Ace, Dark Pulse, Grass Knot

Description: A proud and aloof Froakie who, though hungry, refuses to submit for just a few energy blocks.

Hikaru chuckled, admiring the Froakie.

"A Pokémon with backbone, I respect that."

But one block wasn't enough? What about two? Still not enough? How about three, with rosemary added?

Hikaru was confident no Pokémon could resist such a delicacy.

Sure enough, as Hikaru presented two more energy blocks, Froakie's resolve visibly wavered.

However, before it could make a decision, a sudden shift in the atmosphere occurred.

Charmeleon, who had been idly watching Magikarp nibble on food, suddenly tensed, its gaze locking onto the lake.

A massive, menacing dragon's head emerged from the water, exuding a terrifying pressure.

"Damn it!"

Hikaru cursed himself for being so engrossed in feeding Pokémon that he forgot the lake belonged to a Gyarados.

The Gyarados was far larger and more intimidating than the one Hikaru had encountered before. Its cruel, lantern-sized eyes bore down on them.

"Level 39?!"

This was no joke. Gyarados's Water-type advantage over Charmeleon made it an insurmountable opponent.

Without hesitation, Hikaru shouted, "Kirlia, teleport with Charmeleon!"

Grabbing Froakie, Hikaru bolted into the forest, activating his Teleportation entry to escape.

He didn't stop running until Kirlia and Charmeleon appeared safely nearby.

Luckily, Gyarados's Hyper Beam required a charging period, giving them enough time to flee.

Even five kilometers away, the ground trembled from the beam's impact. Wild Pokémon scattered in all directions, fleeing the lake's tyrant.

---

"Are you okay, Froakie?"

Hikaru checked on his Pokémon. Charmeleon and Kirlia were unharmed, though Charmeleon's tail flame burned brighter with anger.

The fire-type's eyes burned with determination. It vowed to one day prove to that overgrown "dragon" what a true powerhouse looked like.

When Hikaru turned to Froakie, he found it unharmed but unusually quiet.

"You're alright, Froakie," Hikaru reassured, stroking its head.

The Froakie looked at him, its usually aloof demeanor faltering. It had never encountered a human who cared for it even in the face of mortal danger.

Hikaru sighed, sensing Froakie's lingering hesitation.

"Here's the rest of the Water-type energy blocks," he said regretfully, setting the food down.

"I wish you'd join me as a partner, but I won't force you."

He smiled and turned to leave.

Suddenly, Froakie tugged at Hikaru's pant leg.

"Froakie?!" Hikaru exclaimed, spinning around.

The Pokémon hesitated before nodding faintly.

"You'll join me?!"

Froakie nodded again, its pride temporarily set aside.

---

Hikaru couldn't hide his excitement as he gently tapped Froakie with a Poké Ball.

The ball clicked shut, signaling success. Froakie was now officially part of his team.

Summoning it back out, Hikaru equipped several entries, including the Rasengan entry.

Curious, Froakie instinctively tried the move. It brought its hands together, gathering a spinning orb of blue energy.

As the energy swirled faster, Froakie slammed it into the ground.

The resulting impact created a hole about the size of a fist but so deep that it disappeared into darkness.

"Whoa!"

Even Hikaru was stunned.

Though small in size, the depth of the hole—over a meter—demonstrated the Rasengan's terrifying penetration power.

Charmeleon and Kirlia were equally shocked.

Charmeleon could achieve similar effects but only with brute force and its evolved strength.

Yet Froakie, still at its first stage of evolution and only level 15, had unleashed such power.

"Well done!"

Hikaru rewarded Froakie with another energy block, to which it happily nodded.

Unlike Charmeleon, Froakie's intelligence was apparent. It quickly deduced that Hikaru had somehow taught it the Rasengan.

"You figured it out?" Hikaru asked, surprised.

Froakie nodded.

---

Satisfied with his newest team member, Hikaru equipped another entry to Froakie:

[Blue Entry: Water Aura]

Effect: While in water, Water-type Pokémon become more agile and gradually recover stamina.

This entry had been saved for a suitable Water-type, and Froakie was the perfect fit.

Hikaru marveled at how things had aligned perfectly.

"Froakie… Could this be because of that entry?"

He checked his [Fortune Encounter] entry.

---

[Blue Entry: Fortune Encounter]

Effect: Within 1 day to 1 month, an event aligning with your desires will occur. Once fulfilled, cooldown resets. Cooldown: 10 minutes.

---

The cooldown had indeed restarted.

Additionally, a new progress bar had appeared, indicating the entry's potential to upgrade into a purple-tier entry after ten fulfilled wishes.

Hikaru's thoughts turned to his other upgradeable entries:

[Green Entry: Blood Drain]: Absorb 10% of physical damage dealt as HP and energy. (58%/100%)

[Purple Entry: Rasengan]: 0.1% progress towards Sage Art: Rasengan.

The Rasengan's potential thrilled him. If this base form was already so powerful, what heights could it reach after evolving into the Sage Art: Rasengan?

---

As he watched Froakie curiously inspect its own Rasengan, Hikaru couldn't help but grin.

"Looks like the team just got a whole lot stronger."

Kirlia and Charmeleon exchanged glances, their competitive spirits ignited.

It seemed the journey ahead would only grow more exciting.
