"Persian, use Bite!"

The Persian's sharp fangs, imbued with a sinister energy, sank into the opponent's throat, ending the battle in a flash.

When the Infernape and Crobat returned to their trainer's side, they found only his lifeless body on the ground.

The last trainer, still wondering why Mort and Okita hadn't reappeared, suddenly noticed a Charmeleon standing before him.

The white-glowing claws of the Charmeleon slashed across, and this became the final sight the trainer ever saw.

Meanwhile, Charmeleon and Eevee kept Persian pinned down, preventing any chance for a counterattack. After retrieving the opponent's Poké Balls from his fallen body, Tyson swiftly secured Persian, locking it inside its Poké Ball.

Without wasting time, Tyson retraced his steps. He had already confiscated the Poké Balls of Crobat and Infernape earlier during the operation, making his actions much simpler now. Each time, Charmeleon and Eevee would subdue the opposition, allowing him to seal the Pokémon effortlessly.

With the three-member team wiped out, Tyson had successfully exploited an opportunity and taken their resources. He left the bodies where they lay, uninterested in tidying up.

Tomorrow marked the conclusion of the trial mission. Including the three defeated trainers, Tyson had taken down a total of 15 individuals, with his mission points skyrocketing well past 1,000. Feeling he had done enough, Tyson decided it was time to lay low.

He chose a spot closer to the stronghold, carefully hiding himself while waiting for the trial's end.

It wasn't that Tyson lacked the motivation to hunt more opponents—he simply recognized the risks. Observing over the past few days, he noticed far fewer trainers roaming nearby than the number who should have survived. This indicated that the remaining trainers were likely gathering together, preparing for the final moments of the trial.

These trainers weren't seeking alliances or additional battles. Instead, they were betting on the safety provided by their numbers, discouraging any hunters from making a move. Tyson understood that if he acted now, it might spark a panicked counterattack.

Even with Abra's Teleport, Tyson couldn't guarantee smooth escapes. Moves like Mean Look or Taunt could easily disrupt Abra's abilities, putting his entire operation at risk.

Having already exceeded his objectives and amassed more than enough points, Tyson opted to play it safe.

The Next Day

As the morning sun rose, Tyson confirmed that the trial period was over. Without hesitation, he commanded Abra to teleport him away from the area.

Regarding Abra's presence, Tyson decided it was best to inform the Shadow about it. There were two key reasons:

Resources: Training a Psychic-type Pokémon required significant resources, which Tyson didn't have access to as a member with limited means.

Transparency: Hiding Abra from the Shadow would be futile. It was better to disclose its existence than risk the consequences of it being discovered later.

Moreover, Tyson felt confident that Shadow would understand Abra's loyalty was unshakable. Its bond with Tyson made it nearly impossible to reassign to another trainer.

If the Shadow chose to act against him, Tyson was prepared to resist, even if it meant staking his life.

After several teleports, Tyson returned to Team Rocket's stronghold. Abra remained at his side, drawing curious glances from several Rocket officials. However, their better judgment kept them from voicing any thoughts.

No matter what Pokémon Tyson had, they all understood one thing: the Shadow, standing behind Tyson, was an entity none of them dared to provoke.

"The boss hasn't arrived yet. You can wait in that room," one of the officials instructed.

Recognizing him as the same person who had installed the tracking device earlier, Tyson nodded and entered the room.

Preparing for the Shadow

"Alright, you can all rest now. I'm going to take a shower," Tyson said, glancing toward the bathroom.

After a month in the wilderness with only one set of clothes—now stained with blood—Tyson was desperate for a proper wash.

It wasn't vanity, but practicality. Looking like a vagabond wasn't how he wanted to present himself upon completing the trial.

After his shower, Tyson asked Charmeleon to carefully control its flames to dry his clothes.

Dressed in fresh, warm attire, he reflected on the unique charm of the Pokémon world. With Pokémon capable of assisting in countless tasks, acting as companions, and even displaying endearing quirks, it was little wonder technology hadn't progressed as rapidly in this world.

As boredom crept in, Tyson let his team relax while he mentally reviewed the battles and strategies from the trial, searching for areas of improvement.

A New Task

At noon, while Tyson was finishing some dried rations, the Shadow entered the room.

Looking at the imposing figure, Tyson had a suspicion that the Shadow's timing was deliberate, ensuring he wouldn't get too comfortable.

"Sixteen in total," Tyson reported, handing over the symbols marking his eliminations.

The Shadow nodded, their expression unreadable. "You performed well. You've passed the trial."

"Now, I have a new task for you," the Shadow continued, his tone calm yet firm.

Tyson listened intently, his body tense with anticipation.

"I want you to infiltrate the Pokémon League as an undercover agent. From now on, you'll become an official trainer affiliated with the League, able to move freely and openly. What do you think?"

Tyson's mind reeled at the proposition. He wasn't thrilled—far from it. His early life experiences had left him with nothing but disdain for the League.

Compared to the League's bureaucracy and stagnant system, Tyson preferred the clear-cut hierarchy of Team Rocket. Here, skill and strength determined your rise, not nepotism or politics.

Still, Tyson understood his position. He had no choice but to comply. "Understood," he finally said, his tone resigned.

The Shadow, as if reading his thoughts, spoke again. "Don't be so pessimistic. If I'm sending you to infiltrate the League, I'll ensure you have a path to stand out."

The Shadow outlined two plans:

Earning Recognition: Tyson would receive insider information to perform heroic deeds, allowing him to gain prominence as a police officer or investigator.

Competing in the Indigo League: With the next Indigo Conference a year away, Tyson could compete and aim to win. Success in the League would naturally attract powerful allies and recognition, even without additional support from Team Rocket.

Leaving Tyson to ponder the options, the Shadow departed, giving him space to consider his next move.
