Chapter 6: Fighting Again

"It seems you're ready. I assume these ten days of training have filled you with confidence," Shadow said, his voice cold and challenging.

"But you should also understand the consequences if your progress doesn't meet my expectations."

Standing at the battlefield, Shadow observed Tyson and Charmander, both brimming with confidence. Despite the threat, Tyson remained calm, a determined smile on his face.

"I understand perfectly," Tyson replied. "But I believe our performance will satisfy you."

Shadow said no more, his expression unreadable, and released his Zubat onto the field.

"Charmander, use Ember!" Tyson commanded immediately, breaking from his previous habit of waiting for the opponent to make their move.

Of course, Tyson wasn't reckless enough to order an attack on Shadow himself. Despite Shadow's ruthless teachings about using Pokémon battles to eliminate opponents, Tyson knew that targeting Shadow would bring far worse consequences than failure.

The burst of Ember caught Zubat off guard, a flicker of panic flashing in its eyes. Clearly, Shadow hadn't invested much effort into training Zubat over the past ten days, assuming Tyson and Charmander wouldn't make significant progress. Shadow planned to rely on his superior command skills to compensate.

"Zubat, ascend and use Supersonic!" Shadow ordered, his tone sharp.

"Charmander, counter with Growl and follow up with Ember!" Tyson responded quickly, determined not to let Shadow repeat his previous strategies.

Charmander unleashed a growl, disorienting Zubat mid-flight before another Ember streaked toward it. Shadow observed quietly, noting Tyson's marked improvement in both tactical thinking and Charmander's skill proficiency.

"Impressive," Shadow muttered to himself. "In just ten days, Tyson has managed to sharpen both Charmander's Ember and Growl techniques. This is beyond my expectations."

But Shadow wasn't about to go easy. "Zubat, use Gust!"

The air around Zubat churned violently as it whipped up a strong gust, aiming to disperse Charmander's Ember. Yet, despite the pressure, the Ember broke through, though weakened, forcing Zubat into an awkward dodge.

"Charmander, keep up the pressure with Ember! Force Zubat to lower its altitude!" Tyson commanded, seizing the momentum.

Zubat flitted lower, its movement constrained by the relentless onslaught of Embers. Shadow, observing closely, began piecing together Tyson's strategy.

"Are you luring my Zubat into close range? Clever, but proximity alone won't guarantee victory," Shadow mused, a glint of curiosity in his eyes.

"Zubat, dive and use Astonish! Then follow up with Absorb!"

The command reignited Zubat's confidence, memories of its prior victory over Charmander bolstering its resolve. It dived toward Charmander, wings flapping with renewed vigor. Tyson, however, had anticipated this.

"Now, Charmander! Use Bite!"

Charmander reacted instantly. Dark energy infused its sharp teeth as it lunged forward, catching Zubat mid-attack. Zubat cried out in pain, unable to break free from Charmander's grip.

"Throw it hard, then finish with Ember!" Tyson shouted.

Charmander hurled Zubat aside with surprising force, quickly firing a point-blank Ember before Zubat could recover. The attack landed squarely, and as the flames dissipated, Zubat lay defeated.

Charmander stared at its fallen opponent, momentarily stunned, before a joyful realization hit. It turned to Tyson, grinning from ear to ear.

"That's right, Charmander! You did it! You defeated Zubat!" Tyson exclaimed, scooping Charmander into his arms and ruffling its head affectionately. The bond between them had clearly grown stronger.

Meanwhile, Shadow silently recalled Zubat into its Poké Ball, his expression unreadable.

"You've done well," Shadow admitted. "Keep this up, but don't get complacent. In one month, there will be a test. Be prepared—it could cost you your life."

With that ominous warning, Shadow disappeared into the shadows. Tyson knew this meant a brief respite, but he couldn't afford to rest for long. The tasks from the mysterious system were waiting.

Opening the system panel, a series of missions appeared before him:

Increase Charmander's strength by two levels: Reward 30 mission points.

Raise Charmander's strength to the Excellent level: Reward 50 mission points.

Train Charmander's five skills to intermediate proficiency: Reward 25 mission points (Progress: 0/5).

Raise one of Charmander's skills to advanced proficiency: Reward 20 mission points.

Capture a second Pokémon: Reward 10 mission points.

Train the second Pokémon to increase its strength by one level: Reward 15 mission points.

Train the second Pokémon to achieve intermediate proficiency in one skill: Reward 10 mission points.

Tyson understood the system's implication: it was time to prepare for a second Pokémon. However, he wasn't in a rush. If the test Shadow mentioned was as dangerous as hinted, Shadow himself would likely provide an opportunity to capture a second Pokémon for survival.

With his current focus set, Tyson closed the system panel. "Let's keep training, Charmander. There's no time to waste," he said, determination shining in his eyes.

Charmander nodded enthusiastically, ready to continue their journey to become stronger together.
