Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Bad, Old, Love Habits

What the hell is wrong with me? I’m out at the park trying to practice my battle magic and I’m only getting sparks. I’ve been here for an hour and I still haven’t been able to form a full attack. I need my full strength and stamina if I’m going to make this spell work properly.

I didn’t understand the shortage. I took an enriching spiritual bath every night since Julien and have been meditating my face off. Why wasn’t it working?! I scream in resentment of my own body. The outburst sent a thick silver lightning strike into the air.

“Finally!” I wail.

I summon my target and breathe deeply before portalling it far away from myself. I focus my energy and set my eyes on the center of its chest. When I exhale, I force a blast of pure energy out into the field. I watch it fly at neck-break speed. I half-smile and hope that it reaches, but it falls just shy of hitting the target.
