Chapter 26: Dolls

I wondered what other people saw. Their eyes naturally gravitated towards the both of us, arms linked together as I smiled sweetly at him. His dark eyes pierced my plastic persona and I felt it prick at my conscious. Why did I feel guilty?

"You look so handsome and we match!" I chirped gleefully. I had asked him to tell me what we were wearing and yet, he had snapped at me.

Carlisle was unpredictable. I couldn't understand his demeanor, his cadence, his actions—it gave me whiplash. Then again, I understood why. I was just a toy, a simple mannequin to manipulate to the whims of everyone else.
