Unadulterated, white-hot rage coursed through him, until Cain couldn't control the violent quaking in his limbs. He stalked the length of the hotel room and back. Again and again. He knew, just knew, whatever had kept Sammy bottled so tight had to be bad. He just wasn't expecting it to be this bad.

Shit. A sexual assault. And by her own damn therapist. No wonder she had trust issues, was hesitant to enter relationships. It was a feat she managed to function at all.

She was so damn small. Not frail, but certainly petite. How much had she grown since her teen years? She didn't stand a chance at fending off an attacker, never mind a grown man. The fear she must've lived with, the loneliness. And she'd said she'd told no one. In all this time? How the hell had she coped?
