Chapter 261: Dirty Mutt

After he had told everyone about the divided shares Lawyer Yu's job was done, so he was quickly escorted out by Mr Jing.

For a moment, the whole room was quiet as if everyone was trying to process what had just happened but then, as soon as the men left, the whole room irrupted in whispers of confusion.

Hearing the dissatisfaction of her children and grandchildren, Grandma Lu crossed her arms over her chest and said, "Quiet!"

No one had expected the woman to scream so the room became silent once more.

Seeing how pale the woman was, the relatives worried slightly but it was Lu Xia who worried the most.

In the car, Lu Xia had told the woman to not overexert herself in any way, but Grandma Lu never listened to reason...

Looking over the members of her family, Grandma Lu sighed.

Grandma Lu: "What are your complaints? One by one."

Everyone nodded, though no one wanted to be the first one to speak.

Hearing a silence consume the room, Grandma Lu frowned. She didn't understand her relatives; when she didn't want them to speak they spoke, but when she did, they remained quiet.

As Grandma Lu waited for someone to speak, she gazed at Lu AnLing and Kang Jun

The two just sat comfortably and indifferently.

In Grandma Lu's opinion, she felt like the more time Kang Jun and Lu AnLing spent together, the more Lu AnLing began to acquire the man's mannerisms. And this had been the most obvious in the way the girl had become colder lately.

Regarding this, the old woman wasn't angry but it was surely strange. She had never seen Lu AnLing be so detached before. But little did Grandma Lu know of the pain and stress that had been inflicted on the girl these past few weeks.

Lu AnLing was not generally cold, just hard to get to know and understand to the female gender. The girl had never understood why she was like this but, when Lu AnLing really thought about this nowadays, she believed that maybe this had been caused by her Tang blood and her father's upbringing.

Unlike her time with the Lu family, when Lu AnLing was being raised by Tang Yian she seldom ever saw women. So she had found it more comfortable to be around men.

Or at least, back then she had...

In the Lu family, it was different. The men of the Lu family didn't exactly hate her, but they were not very attached to Lu AnLing and chose to stay far away from the girl.

Lu Xia's father, Lu Jian was a bit like Lu Xiaoling, he was cold and always interested in business. He never quite paid much attention to Lu Xia but he loved her in his own way. However, this was how he acted with everyone else also, including Lu AnLing. So the girl had never been able to read him or get along with him.

Meanwhile, Lu Xing, the eldest of the siblings, was someone she had only met once. He was nice to Lu AnLing and to her knowledge, he had never said anything bad of her but she truly could not form an opinion of him.

Truthfully, the only person who ever showed true distaste for Lu AnLing was her grandfather...

Since the first day they had met, the man had looked at her coldly. To him, she was not family, and she would never be.

This was why Lu AnLing found it strange that Grandpa Lu did not step in and begin the complaining. In her heart, Lu AnLing strongly believed that Grandpa Lu did not want her to have 13% of the company, nor the family home.

It had been quiet for a few moments now and Lu Xia, who looked at Lu AnLing as the girl's mind wandered elsewhere, began to feel uneasy.

"This is ridiculous," Lu Xia said with annoyance. When she said this, all eyes turned to her, "You guys were all complaining a second ago but now you're not talking shit, like usual? If you have something to say, just say it. I don't have time to sit here listening to silence!"

Annoyance and slight anger dripped from every word that Lu Xia had spoken. The girl had come here because she felt like she needed to be of help to Lu AnLing and to watch over her grandmother, but if she had known that the family meeting would have been so uncomfortable Lu Xia wouldn't have come.

The girl was usually happy and carefree but after what had happened with Grandma Lu, Lu Xia knew, more than ever, understood that time was precious. And she didn't want Grandma Lu spending her last few months or years in a family in conflict.

Lu Xia just wanted to get this over with and then leave the Lu family to go back to their normal ways. In calmness. Without her...

Like Lu AnLing, Lu Xia knew she was an eyesore, so without her and Lu AnLing to 'ruin' the Lu family, they would be fine.

At least that was what Lu Xia believed...

Seeing darkness consume Lu Xia, Lu AnLing, without saying a word, put her hand on Lu Xia's shoulder.

Lu AnLing had partially understood where Lu Xia's words had come from. Truthfully, she was feeling the same way, but she knew that a person couldn't rush another when it came to processing their own thoughts and emotions.

Or else, it could turn into a fight.

As Lu AnLing though this, Lu Yimo frowned. "Who are you to order us around? You're just a child. And don't tell me you aren't angry about getting only 6%? You a true blood relative, received less than that orphan!"

Hearing Lu Yimo's words, Lu AnLing could see that the woman had broken.

"She got everything that my daughters were supposed to receive. Everything!" Lu Yimo started as she touched her temple and then, she turned to Lu AnLing and gave the girl a deadly glare. It was as if Lu AnLing had always been the source of her unhappiness. But truly, Lu Yimo was projecting all of her hate for Lu Xiaoling, Grandma Lu and Lu Jian onto the girl. "You're nothing more than a snake who somehow slithered her way into our family. You don't deserve 13%! How are you, a dirty mutt picked off of the streets, worthy of being on par with my daughter!?"

This was something Lu AnLing had heard before so she did not react much but Kang Jun, on the other hand, tightened his grip on Lu AnLing's hand as killing intent seeped from his every being.

He felt the intense urge to strangle Lu Yimo but before either husband or wife could act, Lu Xiaoling's icy voice cut through the tension.

"Lu Yimo, who do you think you're calling a mutt." Lu Xiaoling said.

"Obviously that fake right there." Lu Yimo said with venom on her tongue as she pointed accusingly at Lu AnLing.

"She is not a fake. She is my daughter." Lu Xiaoling said.

Hearing her mother saying this, Lu Shuya's eyes widened. Never had she thought she would see the day where her mother would say this again.

Lu Shuya had truly believed that her mother felt extreme shame from Lu AnLing and that was the reason she no longer claimed Lu AnLing as hers... but this wasn't true.

Lu Xiaoling had said this many times before but neither, her sister, her brother nor her other relatives had believed her. Even when she had told her family that it hurt her that they did not accept Lu AnLing, they still did not trust in her words. And at some point, Lu Xiaoling had just given up on telling the truth.

Like with Tang Yian, she was left in a state of complete defeat and she just regressed within herself.

It was cruel to Lu AnLing and selfish, but Lu Xiaoling broke and had let the girl fend for herself.

This was a regret Lu Xiaoling had had for a long time but, she didn't want to regret any more.

"Stop saying those things. It's getting old. There is no way that that girl is your child!" Lu Yimo said.

Hearing this, Lu Xiaoling frowned. She then slammed her hands on the table and lifted herself from her seat.

From across the table, Lu Xiaoling looked at Lu Yimo with anger. "No! I'm telling you the truth. So I hope that for once you open your eyes and ears and get my words through that pea brain of yours!"

Everyone on the table froze.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
caremel caremel

Just a random thought:

Have you ever heard that concept of heaven and hell where it's technically you who chooses where you go? Like, if you think you're a good person (like truly believe it) you go to heaven but if you have a regret/feel guilty about something (only one) you could send yourself straight to hell. I find the concept interesting.
