Synopsis

Blending a more western style of story-telling with xianxia, Painting the Mists offers a fresh yet familiar take on the genre. Though it has its flaws, it only seems to get better as it goes on. If you're at all interested in xianxia or chinese novels in general, I'd thoroughly recommend giving this one a look.

While many people would agree that this isn't the most amazing story in the world, it is much, much better than some of the other stuff out there. After all, any seasoned reader knows of stories with massive plotholes, inconsistent character personalities and ridiculous cheats, but this story doesn't have any glaring mistakes. If you currently aren't reading some epic masterpiece of a story, Painting the Mists isn't a bad next step.
As the author, I feel somewhat shameless reviewing my own story. However, seeing as everyone else does it, I'll join the bandwagon. Painting the Mists is my first fiction, which I began releasing on RoyalRoad and Amazon last year. I personally think the prose and writing style are solid, the world background is solid, and all of my work is professionally edited and proofread. I mostly get flack for character design and story flow, which both get a lot better as the story progresses. If I were to choose, I'd say Book 4 and 5 are the best written books in the series while Books 1 and 3 were less well executed. While I don't intend to rewrite them, my plan is to improve with every book I write. And I think it has. This will be a long series, and I'm in it for the long haul. I hope you enjoy reading the series as much as I like telling it. Cheers, RedMirage

This is a very captivating story, currently, I have only read up till the 22nd chapter and I must say, I am impressed, having been on here for over a year, I have read hundreds of original novels and this has been the only novel to want to make me write a review. It has really inspired me by the sheer creativity and depth to this story and I must say, a job very much well done!

I'm not a fan of Easter Fantasy. The whole social dynamic is off-putting for me. However, this is something different. The author not only weaves an interesting tale but also makes me give a **** about his characters which most authors in this genre fail to do. It makes me want to give the genre a chance and get over my prejudice.

This story is amazing, anyone who likes Eastern Fantasy ought to give it a try! Writing Quality: The quality is much better than the majority of novels you find here on Webnovel. There are no glaring mistakes and it is a pleasure to read, everything flows so well. Stability of updates: It is a new story so it is very hard to say what the stability will be like, but so far lots and lots of chapters are being released. Story development: I do not wish to go too much into details about the plot as to not spoil anyone, however, the plot develops at a very nice pace, it never gets boring but it isn't rushed either. It flows at a smooth and pleasant journey where you follow Cha Ming's adventures. Character Design: really well done! All the characters are incredibly fleshed out and you feel there is a purpose behind their existance rather than just being there for the sake of being trashed by the MC. It is a joy to read! World Background: Really well described. The world building is made really well and introduced at the right time in the story so that it does not feel intrusive, but becomes a smooth part of the story itself. All in all a wonderful story, I would definitely suggest you to follow it!
