Chapter 26: Mei Mei

"These rocks remind me of cookies," Lucian remarked as he leaped from one large, flat rock to another, paying little attention to the searing lava below.

"Master, are you unintentionally implying that these rocks look more appetizing to you than the cookies I bake for you?" Mei mei, following closely behind Lucian, asked.

Lucian glanced back at her and exclaimed, "How do you even jump to that conclusion!? That's absurd!" He raised his voice in disbelief.

"What do you mean it's absurd?" Mei mei tilted her head slightly, her hair cascading down her shoulder, but her avatar maintained a stoic expression with a floating questioning emoji beside her face.

Mei Mei's avatar had a unique appearance. She possessed a beautiful face, long flowing black hair that cascaded down her back, and was adorned in a Victorian-style maid uniform. Despite its appearance, it was a divine-class gear, modified slightly for ease of movement, although it didn't matter much because Mei Mei seemed to glide effortlessly everywhere she went.

However, Mei Mei's most distinctive and unsettling feature was her eyes. She had applied a texture and effect to them, an expense she had covered herself. Her eyes appeared to be swirling with darkness, as though an entire abyss resided within them. Whenever Lucian gazed into her eyes, he felt a hypnotic pull that left him somewhat unsettled. It didn't help that one of her character classes specialized in hypnosis.

"Mei Mei, please stop with those strange stares. That eye effect makes me feel nauseous," Lucian complained as he averted his gaze from his playful maid. It was clear she was intentionally trying to tease him.

"Master, according to VR protocols outlined in section 5, 7.6.2, it is crucial to clarify the inherent limitations surrounding the simulation of motion sickness and nausea within the virtual environment. These provisions explain that it's not feasible to replicate these physiological sensations to a degree that would impact users' physical well-being," Mei Mei explained rapidly, looking at Lucian before continuing. "In simpler terms, it's impossible to feel sick in virtual reality unless it's caused physically."

Lucian sighed, realizing he couldn't argue with Mei Mei's thorough knowledge. "Alright, fine, let's move on. Once you level up the class, we'll head to Alfheim," he agreed, groaning slightly as he continued jumping from one floating rock to another on the river of lava.

"As you wish, master," Mei Mei replied obediently as she continued to follow him.

Their journey continued for another 20 minutes, encountering no monsters along the way thanks to Lucian's skill, [Order Reprieve], which deterred monsters from approaching them.

Eventually, they arrived at a vast expanse with sturdy rocks and an undulating surface situated in the center of the lava river. They were in a dungeon, specifically a cave dungeon, and it was larger than Lucian had initially thought.

Lucian originally wanted to explore a labyrinth dungeon, but because he needed Mei Mei to level up, he chose one that he learned about from the Yggdrasil wiki. This particular dungeon was known for providing high experience points upon defeating its boss.

The moment Lucian's feet touched the ground, a notification appeared, followed by a sound that resembled a draconic roar, even though it wasn't quite draconic. Lucian peered beneath him to see the entire ground moving and shaking.

"Mei Mei, jump back to the platforms," Lucian commanded as two wings tore through his lightweight armor, similar to his old Armour but now tailored for enhanced magical aspects and defense.

Mei Mei promptly obeyed his orders and leaped back to the previous rocky platform.

Lucian jumped back and floated in the sky, observing the dungeon's boss monster. The massive ground shook, and the rocky and sandy parts collapsed into the lava, revealing a monstrous, gigantic tortoise with magma flowing from numerous orifices in its body. Its eyes were filled with magma tears, and it appeared more pitiful than frightening.

"It's pretty bulky," Lucian muttered as he immediately flashed away from his current location when the boss monster fired laser beams from its magma-filled eyes. The reptilian magma eyes glowed and emitted rays of magma straight at Lucian.

As Lucian dodged the boss, the menacing creature swiftly shifted its attention toward Mei Mei, who stood on the platform. Mei Mei had no time to evade before she was struck by a blinding laser beam from the boss monster, hurling her towards the magma below.

"Shit!" Lucian cursed as he propelled his wings and flew toward Mei Mei, catching her before she could plunge into the searing magma.

"I didn't think it would target you, considering I probably had more hate value," Lucian said as he continued to dodge the laser attacks. Typically, these lasers wouldn't even affect him much, as his stats could regenerate quickly. However, it was an entirely different story when it came to Mei Mei.

"Master, do you want me to use my best skill to defeat that turtle?" Mei Mei asked eagerly. In fact, she didn't want to leave his embrace, as Lucian was carrying her in a princess carry, a gesture she loved, even though he had only done it once in real life.

"Nah, just attack it once. Once you deal at least 20 damage, the EXP shared will be enough for your last class to level up," Lucian replied as he continued to spin and dodge laser attacks from the monster.

"Let me heal you first," Lucian said as he cast a spell using voice activation.

"[Divine Mend]," Lucian chanted, and Mei Mei's body glowed, fully restoring her health.

"I'll throw you to the back of the monster and take all of its hate and aggro. You'll use your most powerful skill to deal as much damage as possible. After that, use your ring to activate flight and jump back to one of the platforms. Then I'll deal with the monster. Understand?" Lucian explained and asked Mei Mei, looking at his maid, her abyssal eyes once again making him uncomfortable.

"Yes, understood," Mei Mei replied as she held him tightly for a few seconds, leaving Lucian bewildered.

"What are you doing!?" Lucian asked, but he tripped, unable to dodge a laser that hit him.

"That actually did way less damage than I imagined," Lucian muttered as he dodged the monster's laser breaths. Suddenly, something new happened. The boss tapped one of its feet on the ground, and lava erupted from where Lucian was flying.

Lucian immediately flew high, almost reaching the high ceiling of the cave, barely dodging the attack.

"That was close," Lucian muttered, noticing bubbling spots in the lava everywhere. He could guess what this was alluding to.

"Master, I think we should finish off that turtle first. I can't let it go on after it hurt you," Mei Mei said in such a serious tone that it almost made Lucian wonder if she was actually angry and serious about this. However, he decided not to dwell on it and instead took Mei Mei right to the center of the tortoise's body.

"I'll drop you here," Lucian said as he let Mei Mei go.

Mei Mei immediately positioned herself upright in the air and landed on the ground with utmost grace, as if she were a noble.

"Thanks, Master," Mei Mei muttered as she brought out two daggers that Lucian had created for her. They were both similar to each other, obsidian-black daggers with a black and white gem at the center. One of them had white, while the other had black gems. Their blades also had different runes engraved on them, 14 in total on each. The first one had white runes with elaborate designs, while the latter one had black runes that glowed intensely.

These black daggers were something that Mei Mei cherished deeply. She had witnessed Lucian create them with his own hands, investing his time in research, buying textures, and crafting them. Even in a digital world, they were very precious to her.

Mei mei briefly glanced at the weapons before redirecting her attention to her master, who was deftly evading the monster's attacks. She swiftly gripped both of her daggers and activated a skill she had acquired from one of her assassin job classes.

With her twin daggers poised in a cross formation, she cast "[Shroud of Dusk]," causing her entire body to be enveloped in a dark veil, rendering her presence nearly imperceptible, as if she had become one with the shadows.

Mei mei patiently waited for the skill, which was already charging, to reach its maximum potential. At that moment, an eerie purple glow enveloped her entire being, and her daggers extended themselves, poised to strike at a moment's notice.

Once the charging bar had reached its zenith, Mei mei unleashed her skill, "[Eclipsed Laceration of Twilight]." Her hands moved gracefully, causing her dagger to radiate a brilliant purple hue. The surroundings momentarily bathed in a purple light as she swung her weapon at the ground, relentlessly tearing through the monster's data with each powerful strike, dealing substantial damage.

She continued stacking damage, dealing a significant blow to the monster. The creature paid little heed to Mei mei as it relentlessly attacked Lucian, who had used [Chaos Beckon] to draw all of the monster's attention to himself.

Soon, Mei mei's barrage of attacks ceased, and her body returned to its normal state, the purple aura dissipating.

"Are you finished?" Lucian inquired, his tone nonchalant, as he expertly evaded yet another of the monster's attacks, all while letting out a casual yawn.

"Yes, Master," Mei mei replied, as she activated one of her rings, granting her the ability to fly, and swiftly made her way towards one of the nearby rocky platforms.

Lucian inspected the monster's status and couldn't help but feel satisfied with the significant damage Mei mei had inflicted upon the Boss.

"You did an impressive amount of damage," Lucian complimented Mei mei as he remained hovering in place. Instead of dodging the attacks, he began to get more serious, and his appearance underwent a transformation. His facial features became more refined, taking on an androgynous and stunningly beautiful quality, akin to the embodiment of pure beauty. His hair flowed like cascading blue water, radiating a shimmering brilliance.

His once wild aura transformed into one of calm serenity, as tranquil as still water and as serene as life itself. His armor gradually shifted to a beautiful shade of blue, mirroring the color of his hair, not permanent but something Lucian had employed for the armour.

"Let's finish this. Mei mei, I'm craving some chocolate chip cookies," Lucian declared to himself before turning to Mei mei, his hand making a sweeping motion.

"As you wish," Mei mei replied with a smirk, although her avatar couldn't convey it. She enjoyed seeing him look so cool; it tugged at her maiden heart.

Lucian turned his attention back to the monster, which had ceased its laser attacks, but there was bubbling in the magma beneath him. Another eruption seemed imminent. Lucian didn't give it the opportunity as he swiped his hand, issuing a command. "[Magma to Marine]."

In an instant, the bubbling magma that had covered the entire dungeon transformed into water, as if it had never been scorching hot to begin with.

The monster's footing shifted slightly as the magma was instantly replaced by pure, clean water. It appeared confused, and even its AI struggled to understand the abrupt transformation. The monster resorted to using its earth-based skills while taking damage from the [River of Life], a river created by Lucian's skill.

The sharp edges of the tiles covering the monster's body began to grow and shot toward Lucian. However, he remained in place, and the water surged in front of him, forming a protective barrier that effectively blocked all the incoming attacks.

"Now for the endgame, I'll use my Sea Lancer skills," Lucian muttered as he brought out his console and held up his hand as if calling for something.

"[Call of the Sea Lord]," an ability that summoned the god of the sea himself, Poseidon.

Immediately, the entire body of water started spinning, creating a torrent with the tortoise monster at the center. Despite Lucian's full stats being sealed, he was still able to inflict significant damage with just that torrent alone.

Soon, from inside the torrent, a muscular man wearing majestic blue armor emerged. His body had an ethereal quality, and he appeared emotionless. Holding a magnificent trident, he aimed it toward the boss monster, who was struggling to escape the torrent. Poseidon then threw his Trident, causing the entire body of water to engulf the boss tortoise monster and deal additional damage.

Poseidon immediately vanished into motes of light after using his attack, and the boss monster also disappeared entirely, dropping numerous items. The entire body of water, which was purely magma a moment ago, had transformed into calm and serene water. The battle was won.

"Master," Mei Mei, who was standing on one of the platforms, suddenly flew towards Lucian and threw him onto the ground.

"What the heck happened now?" Lucian asked, looking at his maid who was now sitting on him, his waist being her seat.

"You look very appetizing right now," she said, her voice filled with desire, although her avatar remained stoic.

"Mei Mei, please don't do anything inappropriate. You'll be banned, and you'll also drag me with you!" Lucian warned as he immediately distanced himself from her, getting up, and his appearance returned to his blonde form.

"Ah, sorry about that, Master. Unfortunately, I think I would need to be punished to learn more," Mei Mei said, her voice seemingly filled with genuine remorse. However, underneath that facade, there was excitement, hope, lust, and a lot of love...

"You are deliberately doing it, aren't you? I knew it!" Lucian exclaimed. It seemed like he really had to address this issue by giving her a thorough punishment tonight.

"Anyway, was that your latest Valkyrae form? What's the name of that one?" She asked.

"You saw it, right! It's one of my favorites because it complements my Sea Lancer class. It's a water-element based Valkyrae, but it's very versatile, with a lot of Divine and Spiritual magic spells and skills too," Lucian explained. He then jumped around as he continued. "Its name is [Marina], and the Attribute Title skill is [Serenity of Life], which is a pretty useless and, at the same time, useful in some situations."

"Was that magma turning into water also because of that?" Mei Mei asked, tilting her head cutely.

"Yes," Lucian replied, finding her head tilt rather cute.

"Let's log out after getting out of the dungeon. After all, I still need to punish someone..." Lucian said as he moved towards Mei Mei and patted her head. Although it wasn't very realistic, Mei Mei still closed her eyes, made possible due to a mod.

"By the way, show me your status before we log out. Did you level up?" Lucian asked as he removed his hands from her.

"Yes. Here," Mei Mei purred before opening her console and displaying her status for Lucian to see.

"Hmm... indeed, your stats look good, though we have to do something about those Magical Defense stats," Lucian muttered as he went through Mei Mei's status. Mei Mei was truly the perfect Assassin. Interestingly, she wanted to be an assassin herself, even though Lucian had planned a vampire build for her. This was a rare occurrence, as Mei Mei rarely rejected Lucian's suggestions. She insisted on becoming an assassin.

Lucian didn't know much about assassins except for what he had learned from his friend Nishikienrai back in the day, along with Flatfoot, who had a class that was somewhat of an assassin build. Lucian had to contact Suzune and ask her about the best assassin build. While Suzune didn't provide a perfect blueprint, she suggested that the Shadow Touch humanoid race was one of the best choices for an assassin build.

So Mei Mei chose the Assassin class and went for a full Assassin build. Lucian helped her level up in the beginning and also assisted in searching for hidden and rare Assassin classes. However, after that initial phase, Mei Mei seemed to become quite absorbed in the game, or at least that's how it appeared to Lucian. In reality, she was training diligently to protect her master from threats, even if they were within the game.

"I still think the vampire build I had planned for you was better. It was overall much more versatile than this min-maxed approach," Lucian said, grumbling slightly as he brought out his console. He seemed to have reservations about Mei Mei's choice and still preferred the versatility of the vampire build he had initially considered for her.

"Master, are you sad that I'm not a vampire like you?" Mei Mei asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. However, her avatar's eyes began to spin even faster, creating an eerie effect.

Lucian went through a rapid series of denials before finally admitting, "No! No! Maybe... Just a little... Okay, fine! Yeah!"

Mei Mei reassured him, saying, "Don't worry, Master. Even in the description of the Shadow Touch race, it's written that they are a by-product of human reproduction with vampires who were attuned to shadows. Shadow Touch are also an immortal race. So, in a way, we are of the same race."

Lucian, aware of this fact, retorted, "I'm well aware of it. Stop trying to make me look like an idiot." He then pulled her closer, adding with a mischievous smirk, "I'll make sure today you won't ever try to play with me again..." Using a spell, he teleported them both out of the dungeon.
