I spent the entire day like that and was quite satisfied with the training.
"Kereuk…!"
Buril, with a serious expression, stood at attention while holding a spear. There was no other guard with such a strict demeanor.
"Hehehe! Trainee Buril! Today, you completed your first training magnificently! This Demon King Kyuse praises you for that! Salute!"
"Kereuk Kereuk!"
Clack!
Thud!
Immediately, Buril took up his spear stance!
Recalling my memories of handling a rifle in the army, I made an appropriate motion. The clever Buril managed to master it in just a few hours.
This kid was undoubtedly smart. Was it because goblins naturally had high intelligence? Or was it that he understood better under my control magic? I was not sure, but he was this capable.
If I continued to train him, I was sure I'd see a significant improvement.
"Good. Rest."
"Kereuk"
"Today's training is over. Buril. From now on, when you fight, you have to use that spear. That way, you can catch those bigger than you."
"Kereuk?"
Buril tilted his head, seemingly not understanding.
In reality, training for just one day wouldn't dramatically change anything. It was clear that when Buril was given a combat order, he would probably throw away the spear and charge. Then, he would likely fight using his nails and teeth.
Right now, Buril was just imitating the movements I showed him without knowing the purpose of the spear techniques.
"We must suppress that instinct with continuous training."
That was the essence of training.
The training was precisely that.
Let's continue with regular training from now on. I've got a routine set. Train in the morning, go hunting and gather fruits before noon, then come back.
"Anyway, Buril! Let's go gather some fruits!"
"Kereuk Kereureuk!"
It will be dark soon. It was a bit late for hunting. Let's just gather some fruits and roast them slightly with Demon's Breath.
Then, as the sun sets, I would meditate a bit and then sleep.
After that day, we made several more spears. Given they were consumable, it was better to prepare them in advance.
Once the spears were ready, I began rigorous spear training with Buril, and he seemed to begin to understand the concept of the spear. After explaining endlessly, he seemed to grasp the idea of piercing enemies with it.
"Hmm."
When we went hunting for lizards, he tried to pierce them with the spear instead of rushing at them head-on. However, he didn't utilize the agility of goblins. Buril merely stood in front of the lizard, waiting for my command.
Plop!
The lizard eventually ran away, and Buril stood there, pointing his spear, blankly staring at its retreating form.
"Of course."
Right now, it seemed he was relying more on my commands. He was not yet able to independently fight using the spear.
"So, Buril, let's try hunting with the spear again today."
"Kereuk"
If we kept practicing, he would eventually get it. Today, once again, we set out into the dungeon for hands-on practice.
"It's becoming familiar here."
"Kereuk!"
I had Buril by my side, and there were none of those pesky bugs from the army. Initially, I was very cautious, but so far, I had yet to encounter any strong monsters.
Oh, I did see a fairy.
Although I remained vigilant, I was getting used to not seeing things clearly.
Footsteps.
While we were walking,
"Ugh…!"
Suddenly, Buril grabbed my clothes and stopped. Well, what else could it be? I immediately hid behind a tree with him.
Pointing.
Buril pointed in a direction.
Looking there… huh?
Scuttling!
A goblin was moving at a considerable speed and quickly disappeared from sight.
"What was that goblin doing?"
"Hehe?"
This was the second goblin I had seen since I came here.
Obviously, there would be other goblins. I wanted to follow it, but something about its hurried movement made me hesitant.
"Hmm."
Should I tail that goblin? If I was lucky, I could find out where they're based. Knowing their location, I could plan something and possibly gain another subordinate.
"Buril, let's tail and… Huh!"
"Kereuk..?!"
"Down, get down."
Ducking.
I quickly pushed Buril's head down.
There it was.
A fairy.
Flapping.
A fairy was approaching from the distance.
A creature with beautiful butterfly wings, looking like a doll – a literal Tinkerbell. If it kept its current trajectory… we shouldn't be noticed.
Was that goblin fleeing from this fairy? Good thing we didn't act hastily. If we had caused a commotion, we might've become targets for the fairy.
Flapping.
Observing the fairy as it flew away. I caught a glimpse of its face… It was genuinely as cute as a doll.
Swoosh.
Anyway, the fairy soon disappeared.
"Phew. Every time something like that pops up, it's heart-pounding. This is nuts."
Was it some kind of ghost or something?
"Anyway, Buril. Let's try to follow that goblin from earlier. Can you track its scent?"
"Kerokkegreung."
Buril affirmed.
The fairy had flown off in a slightly different direction. If we took a detour, we might be able to track the goblin.
"Kerok."
Buril, moving just ahead of me, began sniffing the ground on all fours. From the looks of him tracking with his nose to the ground, his sense of smell seemed decent but not as sharp as a dog's.
I held onto my spear and guarded Buril.
We were tracking for quite some time.
Keurek! Keureureurek!
Kureurek! Kekurek! Kureuring!
Keryaak! Kerep!
"Hmm?"
What was that noise?
Suddenly, a commotion of sounds began coming from the distance. Listening closely, it sounded like goblins fiercely howling as a group.
"Buril?"
"Kereuk…!"
Buril seemed agitated.
Up ahead.
There were numerous goblins.
"Buril. Without getting caught, let's move stealthily."
Immediately, Buril and I began our stealth approach, inching very slowly toward the source of the noise. Even as we slowly made our way through the underbrush, the goblins' savage cries never ceased.
And as we parted the final brush:
Kereureurek! Kereuk!
Keraaaaak!
Keureureurek!
We witnessed something astonishing.
Numerous goblins, more than ten of them, were in a massive brawl. Biting each other, clawing, mounting, and beating each other ruthlessly. Blood splattered everywhere. It looked as if they were in the middle of a war.
"…!"
Shiver…!
Buril, covering his mouth with his hand, was shivering and staring blankly at the spectacle.
I, too, felt the same way.
Kereureurek! Kereureurek!
Kekekraaaaak!
Keureureurek!
The fiercely fighting goblins.
A battle.
A struggle.
Could it be a battle between goblin tribes? Fighting tooth and nail for territory, aiming to secure more fruit and prey?
Majesty.
Grandeur.
I was overwhelmed with these emotions.
And I stared, entranced, at the majestic and grand battlefield.
"Hehehe!"
"Heh! Heh"
It felt like watching a documentary. Within the documentary, there was no mercy or pity for the wild beasts of the savannah.
A mother gazelle, half of her body torn apart, her entrails being feasted on, yet still alive. And in front of that very mother, her offspring cruelly torn to pieces. No mercy to put it out of its misery quickly, no pity to avoid killing the child in front of its mother. Wild hyenas possessed none of these sentiments.
All for survival!
All to eat!
They hunted with all their might and tore apart their prey!
It was extremely brutal, but that's the wild…!
"Kyaaaaa!"
Right now, the goblins were doing just that! Biting and tearing, using their hands to rip out the entrails! The goblins were fighting ferociously!
Chills.
That was the only thing I felt. Buril, hiding next to me and covering his mouth, felt the same. We hid in the bushes and watched the battlefield.
"Hissss."
That was when it happened.
"BuzzBuzzBuzz."
Suddenly.
"BuzzBuzzBuzz."
Suddenly, a fairy appeared. A fairy with wings. It was the one I saw earlier. Could it be the same one? That fairy landed in the midst of the chaotic goblin battlefield.
"Ke, Kereuk?!"
"Kereuk!"
"Kereeeueukk!"
With that, the war ended.
"Hehehehe."
The goblins who saw the fairy were in a panic, trying to flee. Despite their injuries, with some bleeding profusely, they tried to escape.
But it was too late.
"Swish."
While fluttering its wings, that little fairy sprinkled some kind of powder and created a wind.
"Whooa…"
"Dizzy… Dizzy…"
"Growl…"
The goblins exposed to that powder began to stagger around like drunk middle-aged men, heading in all directions.
The groups of bleeding goblins
"Hahahahahahahahah!"
Then, a cruel laughter burst out of the fairy. I might not know many things, but I knew this: The fairy was delighting in what it had done to the goblins.
"Stagger Stagger."
Did it hypnotize them?
The goblins stumbled around, heading in random directions. How long would this last? In a place like this, being in such a state… they'd quickly be killed!
Was this why?!
Was this why Buril feared the fairy so much? Of course! Being affected by such magic was as good as being dead! Not only fire-breathing or hurled icicles could kill; this too was a deadly magic!
"BuzzBuzzBuzz."
And after dispersing the goblins, the fairy began to fly somewhere else. It definitely smiled. It seemed to lose interest after playing with the goblins like that! One should never associate with such a dangerous creature!
We must run in the opposite direction!
"Bu, Buril, let's go."
"Heh…"
As we turned to leave, we saw…
"Wh, what… what…"
A drunken goblin, eyes rolling, staggering our way. We seemed to cross paths. Should we avoid it… No.
"Buril, let's follow that one."
"Heh."
Good!
Let's chase and subdue it!
