Chapter 75: Chapter 74 - First Example
"I'm so sorry guys! I am just the worst! Sorry for getting the two of you on the hunting list as well!"
"All good, Evelyn, I wonder if the exemptions would apply for us as well…"
Janice turns to Caleb, with a cunning smile.
"I mean, think about it. If we kill her now, we can even split the…"
"Stop. If you even try to raise a finger on her, you will not only be dealing with her, but me as well."
"Aww…"
"How can you even trust Zoe. She is most likely borrowing the knife to kill her enemy."
"Fine."
Turning towards me, Janice gives me a sneer, and comes so close to my ears, I can feel the warmth of her breath.
"Listen carefully Evelyn…" I can feel the warmth of her breath, as she whispers into my ear. ". Should anyone try to kill you, I will be the one that will end you"
Just when I thought we had taken a step forward, we are thrown back into chaos.
"Kid, chill. If we were going to kill you, we would have done it already"
"It's so tempting though…but if Caleb is okay to leave you alone, I guess I will too. I would love for that immunity."
It didn't matter no more, we had to deal with the issue at hand, we were outside, and the other children were now free to come out and start hunting, we needed to come up with a plan to escape and it had to happen quick.
"Let's hurry and get out of here. Just because we have no interest in you, doesn't mean others don't!"
The distance from where we were standing to where the Giant Bell Tower didn't look far at all. All we had to do was go to the centre of the road and follow the pathway and we would be at the tower in no time.
I step forward, ready to go, only to feel Caleb's warm hand to grab onto my wrist and pull me back.
"Wait!"
"We cannot go out like…"
Step, step, step.
The footsteps were getting louder and louder with every step.
One after another, children, kids, and teenagers appeared at the doors.
They looked confused, and surprised at the same time, with their weapons dangling down.
It was at this moment a skinny tall teenage boy appeared.
Feet pounding hard against the floor.
Breathing hard, sweat drenched his tight singlet.
A giant green cross against his chest.
Something bad was bound to happen.
The kids no longer looked innocent, their eyes were locked on the boy, like a pack of hungry wolves, just as he passed us, the kids against the gates shot out.
Quick as lightning the boy was tackled and thrown to the floor.
What happened next was so scary, I wanted to closed my eyes, as the sound of the boy's scream echoed in the darkness.
Knives plunged into the poor boy's body.
Then silence.
"Well, that's a sight. You won't forget." Janice said dropping to the floor.
Caleb also pushed me down as well.
Ding, Ding, Dong.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, our first candidate has finished the test!"
