Chapter 16: Zephyr and Kizaru's conflict.
John's days were simple: he practiced with the class during the day, exercised his devil fruit powers at night, and only needed four to five hours of deep sleep a night to gain strength.

John also tried several times to soften Borsalino on this issue, but to no avail, so he stopped pushing it.
In the anime, One Piece vaguely mentioned that Borsalino and Zephyr had a bad relationship, and that in the story, Zephyr was defeated by the Yellow Monkey and ended up in a pitiful position.
In reality, John believes that this does not apply to Zephyr, and that Zephyr's advice is definitely correct. Even though the fruit's power is strong, physical skills are just as important, and it would only be right for Borsalino to practice more physical skills.
But Borsalino is definitely a problem student, and if Zephyr had spoken to him properly, he would have listened.
But Zephyr, who was a teacher instructor for the first time, and before that he held a high position and treated his students very harshly, simply could not tear himself away and convince him step by step, and was blunt in his demands in the form of orders.
