Chapter 10: Chapter 10: You Must Be the Vice Admiral

"It's not a big request. I just eat a lot now, so please arrange a special kitchen for me, Grandpa Sengoku," Chiba said.

Sengoku, expecting something more significant, felt slightly disappointed. "Is that all...?" He had hoped for a request that would deepen their bond. "Of course, I'll arrange that for you. If you need anything else, just ask."

"No, that will be all for now. Thank you, Grandpa Sengoku. If there's nothing else, I'll go back to my lab to continue my research on the liquid medicine."

"Alright, but remember to take care of yourself and rest when needed. Don't overwork, okay?"

"Yes, I'll keep that in mind," Chiba replied before exiting.

As Chiba left, Sengoku let out a sigh. There's still a distance between us, he thought. We've only met three times, and it's too early to expect complete trust or familiarity. But he knew he couldn't rush things.

Garp, observing Sengoku's expression, couldn't help but smirk. "Be honest, Sengoku. You're eager to make Chiba a Vice Admiral because you want him to become an Admiral and eventually succeed you as Marine Marshal, don't you?"

Sengoku met Garp's gaze directly. He knew his old comrade too well to hide his intentions. "You're not wrong. Chiba is committed to the Marines, has extraordinary talent, and has already accomplished two major feats. I'm confident he'll achieve much more. He's worthy of becoming Marine Marshal."

Garp scoffed. "You're just afraid he'll leave, so you want to build a team around him and use the promise of the Marine Marshal position to tie him down."

Sengoku, knowing his motives were transparent to Garp, nodded. "That's exactly what I'm doing."

Garp's face turned stern. "And you don't feel any shame for it?"

Sengoku's expression darkened. "Garp, don't you want Chiba to stay in the Marines? If he leaves, where will he go? To his father, to join the Revolutionary Army? Or follow his brothers and become a pirate?"

"With Chiba's immense talent, neither the Marines nor the World Government will allow him to leave. If he insists on leaving, the consequences will be severe—something I'm sure you don't want to see."

"Old friend, I may be using a few tricks, but it's for Chiba's own good. If he's calling me 'Grandpa,' it's not for nothing."

Garp remained silent for a moment. "Chiba is like me—he doesn't care about power or politics. Why not let him stay a Vice Admiral for life?"

Sengoku sighed. "If he had your strength, then maybe. But do you really think that's possible?"

Garp fell silent again. It was true that he once stood at the pinnacle of strength in the seas. Chiba was brilliant, but his physical prowess and potential weren't close to matching his own.

Sengoku patted Garp's shoulder. "I've already thought this through. We'll give Chiba a strong team. Aokiji is also your apprentice; he can support Chiba when needed. We can also bring Kizaru into his circle. That way, Chiba's rise to Marine Marshal becomes a certainty."

"At that point, no one will be able to touch him."

"And as for the day-to-day responsibilities of the Marshal, his team can handle them. He won't need to worry much about the tedious aspects of leadership."

"Wouldn't it be nice for him to have a long, peaceful career and eventually retire in comfort?"

Garp, hearing this, remained silent once more. Sengoku's words held truth. But he knew the life of a Marine Marshal wasn't always as peaceful as Sengoku made it sound. They were children of the sea, and the allure of the vast, unpredictable ocean was part of their very essence. Being confined to Marineford, even with the title of Marshal, was like being a canary in a golden cage.

Garp had experienced the thrill of the open sea, the battles, the freedom. He didn't want Chiba to be shackled by duty and responsibilities.

With a sigh, Garp left Sengoku's office and made his way to Chiba's lab.

"Grandpa, what brings you here?" Chiba asked, setting down the document he had been working on.

Garp glanced at Hina, who quickly understood the hint. "I'll go make some coffee for Vice Admiral Garp," she said before exiting the room and closing the door behind her.

Chiba smirked. "Grandpa, what do you need to tell me that you had to send Hina away?"

Garp looked at Chiba with a serious expression. "You brat, are you planning to spend the rest of your life cooped up in this lab?"

Chapter 11: Marine Hero, Back to the Top

Chiba smiled. "Doing research every day—this is the life I dream of."

"Nothing!" Garp grumbled, "Boy, do you know how wonderful this world is?"

"Do you know how magnificent the sea is? Islands floating in the sky, the underwater world of the Fish-Men… giants standing a hundred meters tall, tiny people no bigger than a palm… all kinds of extraordinary worlds, all sorts of amazing races, countless and endless. Don't you want to go and see them?"

Chiba thought for a moment, then shook his head. "I still think research is more interesting."

Garp sighed. "You say that because you haven't seen it yet. Once you experience it yourself, you won't think so."

"And then, you'll find yourself trapped in Marineford, with nothing left but regret."

Chiba's brows furrowed slightly. "Grandpa, you seem to be hinting at something."

Garp looked him squarely in the eye. "Boy, the Marines aren't as glorious as you think."

"If you ever make any discoveries in your research, don't reveal everything at once."

"Keep some cards up your sleeve."

"That way, you won't find yourself at a disadvantage in the future."

Chiba was taken aback, staring at Garp with a puzzled look.

"What? You think your grandpa's all brawn and no brains, incapable of saying something wise?" Garp crossed his arms over his chest, staring sharply at Chiba.

Chiba shook his head. "You managed to corner someone like Roger, the Pirate King, multiple times, and you protected Ace from the Marines for over a decade when they were hunting him down. That alone shows how capable you are. Sometimes, you just choose not to show your cleverness."

Chiba's praise made Garp laugh heartily. "Hahaha, you cheeky brat, you know how to talk. But you probably haven't said everything on your mind, have you?"

"Ha, you're really just like your grandpa. Grandpa, you've always been loyal to the Marines, yet now you're telling me to be cautious. Is there some hidden meaning behind this?"

Bam!

Garp gave Chiba a light smack on the head. "There's no deeper meaning, you idiot. Grandpa loves the Marines, but he's also your grandpa. Of course, he's looking out for you. Isn't that natural?"

Chiba was stunned. Since arriving in this world, he'd never truly thought of Garp as his grandfather. But today, hearing those simple yet heartfelt words, he felt a warmth spread through him.

Glancing around to make sure no one was watching, Chiba handed Garp a scroll he had just finished compiling. "Grandpa, take a look at this."

Garp hesitated for a moment, eyeing the scroll titled Giant Elephant Suppression Technique. His eyes widened as he opened it.

The contents were shocking.

The Giant Elephant Suppression Technique described how the human body contains 840 million particles. If each particle was awakened and nurtured, it would form into a giant elephant. As one continued to cultivate, these would grow into 840 million giant elephants.

The power of 840 million elephants in one person. If this technique were mastered, the power would be unimaginable.

Garp's eyes were filled with astonishment. He looked up at Chiba, pointing at the scroll. "Is it really possible to cultivate this?"

"You'll know once you try, Grandpa. As you read the training image, use your spiritual energy—well, maybe you're unfamiliar with that term—use your Observation Haki to perceive it instead of your eyes." Chiba smiled.

"I'll see what you're up to, you little brat." Chiba's words piqued Garp's curiosity. Trusting his grandson's talent, he closed his eyes and activated his Observation Haki.

The moment his mental energy touched the first image, it felt as though the words and images leapt off the page, flooding into his mind.

Garp's body trembled. Chiba calmly reminded, "Grandpa, don't panic. This is a special diagram written in unique ink, infused with spiritual power. By using Observation Haki, you can better understand the cultivation method. Just relax and focus."

Relaxing, Garp let the image imprint itself into his mind. He adjusted his posture according to the diagram, breathing steadily. Soon, a gentle breeze stirred within Chiba's office.

Chiba opened the windows, allowing fresh air to flow in.

Garp felt a powerful, unfamiliar energy seeping into his skin, coursing through his meridians, and pooling around his heart.

His heartbeat grew stronger, louder. The cells in his heart activated, and some began awakening, greedily absorbing the energy from his body and the world around him.

An hour later, Garp opened his eyes, feeling an intense hunger gnawing at him. But his eyes shone with a fierce light.

His heart pulsed with vigor, as if he had returned to his youth. And this was after only an hour of practice.

If he could fully master the Giant Elephant Suppression Technique and awaken all 840 million particles within his body, his physical strength would reach unimaginable heights.

Garp took a deep breath, suppressing his excitement. Grinning, he patted Chiba's shoulder with force. "You sneaky brat, I knew you had something up your sleeve."

"With this miraculous technique, your grandpa will soon regain his peak strength—and beyond. My power will soar, and I could easily live for decades more."

"And in those decades, I'll watch over you. Anyone foolish enough to mess with you—Grandpa will smash them to pieces with one punch."

A tremendous aura, as vast as the sea and as immovable as a mountain, erupted from Garp.

It was the aura of a king—the aura of the strongest warrior in this pirate world.

The Marine hero was on the verge of returning to his prime—no, surpassing it.

Garp's booming laughter echoed through the entire research institute, shaking the walls as if they might collapse at any moment.

Watching his grandfather, full of energy and spirit, Chiba smiled.

The Giant Elephant Suppression Technique had been prepared specifically for Garp.

The stronger Garp became, and the longer he lived, the better it would be for him.

When Garp completed the first layer of the technique, awakening all 840 million particles, smashing Marineford with a single punch would be entirely possible.

But to reach that level, I still have a long way to go.

I need to speed up the development of the elixir. With its support, my strength can grow faster.

Chiba returned to his desk, continuing his work.

In the blink of an eye, two months had passed.
